I seriously can't wait for this to come up, I don't understand that PBEM stuff at all.

Dont understand as in "dont want to" or as in "dont know how to"? If its the latter I wouldnt mind showing you how - if its the former I think you are cheating yourself out of some excellent experiences but thats obviously a personal decision.

Personally, I prefer PBEM over the TCP/IP format. I consider the latter a discount action version where you arent given proper time to plan your move. I acknowledge that others prefer this fast but less deliberate style and think its great that WaW will support both.

I agree to a certain extent, but after playing 20-30 games, you can usually have a pretty good idea of what moves you'll be doing and when. some turns for the early game might only require a minute (china and russia in particular), the only problem is that still some turns for the WA might take 10-15 minutes at least.

Just a quick note to let you know that we've had more trouble getting the online version working correctly than we expected. Keith is still hard at work on it and as soon as we have a better ETA we'll let you know.

I don't know how and who to, thats one :p

But with PBEM, i can imagine it being like an hour till my turn or someone leaving halfway through ruining it and stuff like that, but I am sure it will be ok if some one showed me.

the thing with PBEM, is that many people simply play a single turn a day. therefore you're not sitting around waiting for someones turn nor they for you. on occasion, I'll play 3-4 turns a night in this fashion, but for the most part its a turn a night.

the TCP/IP version they're working on at the moment would have the problems you've mentioned though. thats why Jan made the comment about PBEM being better in many ways.

OK I'll show you, since I like your nick (rhymes with ice-pick [:D])

Do you want to play Allies or Axis? Lets discuss details in the e-mail, so as not to hijack the thread any further - mail me at oleg@bug.hr and we can start a PBEM game tomorrow.

I know in "Mission Risk" a risk game thats basically free, on the online section, if some one leaves, some one can just take over.

Hopefully a system like that will be in place.

Its being worked on and tested - I just spent 3 hours testing with another tester. Its coming along but it still has a way to go before the bugs are worked out. I would say to expect it when you see :)

Just a quick note to let you know we are still working away on the TCP/IP online version of WaW. We've made some progress recently but still can't claim to be in the clear yet so we don't yet have a solid release date we can give out.

From another thread a few weeks ago:
Yes, we concluded that it was important to get the online game out, and once started, it's hard and inefficient to switch gears. The online game has been much more difficult to program than first thought, and this has delayed things more than we expected. If things delay much longer, we may have to reconsider and try to put out a bug fix patch first. We'd really like to past the main technical hurdles on the online version first while it is fresh in Keith's mind before he switches off to the patch.

It would be nice to see the patch sooner rather than later.

Can two games of WAW be run at the same time? It might be cool to be able to have two games being run at once--roles reversed.

There's been no update because Keith has still not been able to get past what is turning out to be a major problem. At this point all I can say is that we're still working on it. This is our first TCP/IP effort and it has proven to be quite difficult.

Another idea a friend of mine just had: have an option for simultaneous turns by human players--allow Germany and Japan to move at the same time. Then allow the allies to move at the same time.

Attacks could only be made by one nationality, as usual. Both players would have to click on the next phase button before the game progressed to the production phase so that free trade, etc. would work correctly.

This would speed up multiplayer games, and in fact make them faster than one vs. one games.

Any thoughts on this?

It's an interesting idea for a multiplayer game like WaW, but we aren't set up to make it happen in WaW. I'll talk to the programmers and see if this is something we can try to do in future games.

Yeah, I figured it might be to late to add such a major change.

Maybe in WaW2!

Is the civil war game going to have two sides, or will there be the ability to have more than two players?

Civil War is designed as a 2 player game.
