By being ssssllllllloooooooowwwwww.

Actually, there was a rockslide in front of me {driving on a mountain highway}. Ran into one of the rocks and off the road. Got out to stop traffic and the next vehicle through was a Honda SUV. It hit the rock, slammed into the side of my {now parked} truck and sent it 110-140' down the road.

Unfortunately I was only 6' from my truck. Of course I end up sitting upright under my truck when it comes down. And, of course I end up under the catalytic converter! I could not have thought up that scenario if I wanted to....and I am a Paramedic!

Quite painful physically. I was pretty much warped mentally before the incident. That hasn't changed a whole lot.

So....I am so slow that I can be run over by a parked vehicle.

When the Great Sino-American War starts the enlistment age will go up again. Anyone under 100 will be conscripted and anyone over 100 will be expected to volunteer.

This sounds pretty horrible![:(]

I had a friend that was run over by the same car three times (in the same incident), which really messed her up physically (she did survive). I think she also got burned by the catalytic converter/exhaust system (as well as having various parts of her anatomy crushed.)

A thread was started by riley555 that many people took exception to. The thread has been removed. This started a course of events which is simmering along here...

Yes. He gave away a key aspect of the book's conclusion. A stupid immature little post whether one has interest in the book series or not. the thread has now thankfully been removed by the moderators.

IIRC (this was years ago, and i've lost touch with the friend) - she was stopped at a light while driving a motorcycle. Some woman in a very large car managed to run over her, trapping her beneath the vehicle. At this point, she was pretty much OK (aside from being pissed). Unfortunately, the auto driver panicked, backed up over her, crushing her pelvis. The car was hung up on the motorcycle, and the car couldn't be moved much more in that direction, so the driver put the car in drive and tried to make an escape, running over the trapped woman a third time. Iirc, at this point some people stopped the idiot driver from getting away and/or backing up again.

OUCH! OUCH!! OUCH !!!

The Australian Women's Bicycle Team was in Germany last week doing some training. A car coming the other way managed to hit six of the riders. One dead on the scene, two in intensive care for 5-6 more weeks, two still serious, one can leave hospital in a couple of weeks.

That's the same length that another well known empire-to-be was going to last.

No they didn't.
But the Nazis were on a run-away train straight to hell.

But we have to put our past behind us and more on. On to happier times.

That catalytic converter can get HOT! The nurses never knew it was a burn till a week later. They thought it was ugly road rash.

It was horrible...but it indirectly led to me getting married, so I cannot complain too much despite being a little shorter and asymetrical. My wife is worth a little discomfort and a hand that doesn't work like it should.

Luckily I was outside the truck. Had I been inside, I would have had a pelvic fracture like your friend {another 3 months therapy at least} and a head injury {REALLY don't want to think about that!}. As it was, I was off work for almost six months and that is after conning a doctor into letting me go back to work about two months early.

Got to tour the U.S.S. Hornet while recovering. That was a blast.

Actually,
I think universal service,no exceptions no exemptions for atleast a 1 year stint so "everyone" is basically trained and familiar with methods and equitment would be a smart idea. After all we are all in this together. This isn't cosmetic,or lip service but a way to show every citizen we all have responsabilities.
The left should love it,rich boys as well as opinionated loudmouths are treated the same!

While I agree in principle, the reality is that it just wouldn't work, at least not for the regular services. It may be of some benefit to the Guard or Reserves. But a one year stint wouldn't provide the individual any meaningful training. With military technology changing as fast as it is, any individual would need retraining if he were called up unless it was a reserve-type program with training periods every year. And the military just can't afford to send everyone to bootcamp and provide specialty training. The budget would have to increase by at least 50% and they would want some return for their dollars

I ran a 7-man recruiting station in Yakima, Washington for 4 years and Graycompany hit the nail on the head. The majority of rejections are due to being overweight. The rest of the rejects are normally due to a lack of a HS diploma or law violations (I could not believe how many kids have juvenile records!!!).

TitanWarrior89 mentioned the stress of recruiting. I actually enjoyed getting out there and talking with the kids. What I hated was having to call my zone supervisor everyday and reporting how many phone calls were made, how many phone calls resulted in appoinments, how many appoinments resulted in interviews, how many interviews resulted in physicals and how many physicals resulted in DEPs. It's all a numbers game to career recruiters. If the station failed to make goal, the zone supe would be down to find out why. Miss it two months in a row and the district trainer would pay a visit. Miss it 3 months in a row and you got to pay a visit to the commanding officer. Missing goal was unacceptable, didn't matter that you made 200% of goal last month... Hero to Zero in a heartbeat!!!

Which actually is quite stupid. When I joined the army in 93, I was 6'2" 235, 37 lbs over my "max allowable" weight. Problem was, my body fat (tested by calipers and body immersion) was around 13-15%. The tape test, the "accurate" piece of crap it is, had me at 23%! I passed (barely) and got in, but the god damned tape test followed me around til the day I ETS-ed. There are all sorts of people in the military who have guts and are overweight, but because their waist/neck ratio is just right, they have no problems passing. I sport(ed) lol a six-pack, maxed my PT test, got an award from the CG for having the squad with the best PT score in the entire 82d airborne division, but I was 23% fat???? The sooner that all the branches stop relying on that worthless test, the better.

No issues here with Army policy. [;)]

you got it,, to fat
[/quote]

You right it is stupid. I've got a fat neck to match my fat gut and a good chest. Sucked my gut in flexed my neck and passed the tape test every time.

One time I was waiting to go in for a tape test and relaxed me stomach for a minute and the button popped off by BDU pants and flew across the room LOL.

I still passed. [:D]
