Could be interesting to see a ship damage screen in this "land to steel exchange" game [:)]

I'll send you one in the turn i'm about to do. i am hoping my navy can get some good night fights in there and take his bb's out. i dont want to flounder.

I took johnston island so i have a place to reful and rearm. It looks like he put his BB's into port. I am hoping i will not get my units cut off they are still around 1000AP. I am going to have them bombard and hopefully in a few turns i can have my combined fleet of 10 BB's more into pearl and set up fort waiting for the last 4 divisions to land.

I'm starting to waver on the success of the mission but i will not waiver.
We will win or we will lose at pearl.

I see why my forces are not recouping so fast. I only start with a few IJA squads in the replacement pool. I am used to playing as the US where you get replacements faster then you can kill them. I guess with japan you really have to husband your resources. I think this quick attack will lead me to lose in the end. ANd next time if you do come come with 10 divisions instead of just 5. I was hoping for a quick victory i am 2-1 the size of the guys at PH but they are behind lvl 6 forts.

Well i will have Kona tomorrow. I have another division landing on Lahiani Soon. It will give me hopefully a level 4 port to be able to drydock.

My main fleet of 10+ BB's will be meeting at Johnston island in 2-3 days. Then we will venture off to PH to try to repulse his fleet. Which i need becuase my troops are being worn down. I totally did not see how few replacements japan got which would have changed my strategy greatly if i had known. I am hoping if i can take a few of the islands around i can use my manpower advantage to overwhelm the US in those islands. And then hopefully enough time will pass to allow those units to rebuild to full strength.

I have thought about withdrawing units from PH but most of my fast transport ability is still out around tokyo so it is not really an option. I have decided either way the war will be won or lost at PH. Either i will repulse his fleet and take the islands or i will lose the war and sue for peace. I've learned alot by playing japan so far. Mostly that man you have alot of shit to do every single turn with the sheer number of units you start with. Also my lack of ground combat experience has shown. Billy was saying you have to bombard more which i never really have learned much about or the reasoning etc etc so i normally start with a ground attack.

THe thing that is hard for me now is that i am bombarding him because i need to keep his forts down but its not allowing my units to rest which is making them more tired. Thankfully the US has only a few hundred more AP it can throw into the mix so i dont have to worry about getting destroyed but i probably should learn how to do a proper ground offensive.

Well started invasion of midway. And wake will be invaded in a few days. Lahaini will be invaded by 1 division tomorrow. I have a 3 Cruiser 6 DD TF about to bombard the island too.
We are offloading more troops to Kona. My main battle fleet is still 2 days out of PH.
But once there hopefully i can get some good night fighting and tear him up.

Well the landings at lahinai keep getting intercepted so for now the division will land at kona and hopefully my freaking bb's will finally engage at Lahina. the past 3 damn turns they have popped into the hext and left. It's very frustrating. My units in PH are slowly wearing down. I think if i had come with another 3-4 divisions at once i would have had better luck. Chalk it upto my inexperience and not realizing the japanese start with 0 Replacements.

Tanker whats up with that? When will the IJA squad replacements start to kick it up. I mean shit what army only has 16 squads for replacement at the start of a war ?:)

I'm not being critical but did the japanese really have every single unit active without a reserve force? if so no wonder they lost

Maybe to force the engagement you should move into Lahina and patrol the hex. That would cover the transports and force an engagement with his naval forces. That is if you want to do that[:D]

Yea ididnt want to do that. BUt i eventually got the combat i was hoping for. And i think i did pretty well. But next turn i'll have all 3 Surface task forces in kona ready to merge and start raiding lahana. I finally landed on Wake as well.

But it works!!! bombardments for 4 days helped me drop the forts to level 5 yay!! go me!.
Now if i could just get some more troops on the damn island but i have to take out that navy of his first. Hopefully i can his BB's are starting to show wear and tear.

So hopefully if i keep my shit together we'll be in for a long and victorious game.
In hindsight for anyone else trying to pull this off land at least 10 divisions if not more. But i don't know if its possible like i did it. If i had waited for everything to merge up then PH would have been protected by the BB's anyway so i wouldn't have been able to land. This is definately a learning experience. Also next time i try this i will skip PH and go right for lahinia. A size 4 port would be great to have and then i would have time to stage and work on PH a little better. I'm starting another game vs a player (forget his login) but i'll be japan again so i'll have to figure out what i want to do .

Well guys i sent a Unit into PH to attack him and it worked and it kept Lahania empty the whole time. So this time i am sending a few DD's into PH and then going to send in my main battlegroups to Lahania along with transports holding the Expeditionary BDE. Hopefully it can overpower the defenders and give me a safe port in which to Disband. He doesnt want that but i'm hoping i can trick him into leaving it open and taking it.

The lack of replacements is killing me nothing is resupply i'm down to 340 AP on PH it started at around 1500!!!.
I'm shipping a 25 DD Fast Transport taskforce from pescadores to full speed to saipan and then to Kona. If i have lahania by then i'm goign to start trying to fast transport the units off PH to a safe haven they wont rebuild for a long time but at least i can get some units safe. And i'm sending in 10 subs from the west to try and transport off small cadres of each unit so i can rebuild them. Though with production it is likely going to be very slow. I think i bit off too much to chew. With only 21 divisions to start i would need at least 15 to take PH quickly and it shows the US fleet can take out japans fleet. Also i was so new i didnt realize why i would need a close staging base . Now i know and knowing is half the battle.

Next time i'll take wade/mideay Johnson & palmyra first. Then feint to PH and take Lahania and then i'll have a place close to take PH or at least siege it. I'm going to keep this game going though i'm not going to quit just because i fubared myself

I'm hoping that japanese production and replacements will get their act in gear. With only 15 IJA squads a day and an avg of 300 IJA Squads per division it will take 20 days to rebuild 1 division. And with all 21 of my divisions engaged in combat somewhere it will take around 420 days just to rebuild my divisions then on top fo that i have 16 BDE's with 100-200 Squads. I know its probably more realistic for that but damn it feels like there is no way i can get replacements to the battlefield.


Question...since my units are in PH will a replacement sub unit spawn in osaka? Similar to how with planes when you get replacements a subunit will form at the main HQ?

Along with any requests i will need help from you guys on an Exit strategy. no i'm not talking about IRAQ [:-]. I need a plan to extract my units from PH without killing off the rest of my fleet. I don't think there is anyway i can get PH now unless i can get a few more divisions over it but my fleet is already in ruins. Basically when you look at a japanese ship funny it starts to sink anyway.

So if i fast transport in at night with enemy ships is there a chance i can sneak by without getting attacked or is it certain? is the best way to sneak out cadres via sub then?

Well other then the continual slaughter of my ships at the ends of enemy torpodoes we had a good turn i guess. My trick at sending 2 DD's into PH as a way to keep his TF's their worked perfectly. Only a TF of 10 DD's was left in lahina and my BB TF's worked them over pretty well and allowed my trnasports to land all their men. I'm having them stick around so hopefully they can disembark supplies for next turn.

I'm sending a AD to Kona so i can resupply my torpodoes!!! Again lack of experience on my part is wounding me. But i feel like we're on the cusp of a great adventure taking Lahania. I'll then have a port i can dry Dock in and will make things ALOT easier for me. I have 1 divisions probably 5 days out its going to land on Lahania if i can't take it before.


Situation around PH


Billy tried to be sneaky and send in 10 DD's into Kona to raid my supply base. Several heavily damaged BB's is still better then 10 DD's and their is a slaughter. And finally its not my damn ships!!


More BB vs DD fighting. I think in the end maybe 2 of those DD's will make it back
