Hopefully by that time the dreaded out of sync bug will have been fixed. But if not we intend releasing the game anyway. Economically we just cannot afford to hold off releasing COTA. The coffers are dry and we need to pay the rent.
It is always annoying when economics force you to lower your standards (trust me I know... I work in a hospital). But your honesty and openness is really refreshing... That alone could make me buy the game. Good thing it will also be a great game [;)]

BTW - can you play MP with just one purchased copy of CotA? Would it for example be OK to let my roommate install with my copy, and play a game against him?

karto,

Thanks.

Re number of copies you need to purchase. Yes you should purchase a copy for each machine you are going to run it on. I'm sure your mate will want his own copy anyway. He'll need to practice. [:)]

is it hard to make an autosave option for both parties playing without human intervention ?

until the out of sync bug got squashed ...

COTA does support autosave at every 20 minutes of realtime.

Great news that CotA is close to being released! :)

I must say I'm truly impressed with the documentation being supplied with the game. I was sad to hear that no strategy guide would be written this time around.. but by the sound of it there will be plenty to read.. 180 pages of tutorial! and then 200 page manual!! Me like! :)

I know, from the quality of the HttR manual and strat guide, that it will be a very good read too.. unlike some manuals that are so dry it's a chore to read them.

Hi all,

I have just finished drafting the ScenMaker manual, though Adobe's In Design is giving me a hard time laying it out. I hope to finish off the draft of the MapMaker manual this week. I'll allow another two weeks for feedback and finishing off.

Well I finally got the ScenMaker out to the beta testers for feedback and am two thirds through the MapMaker Manual. Should finish tomorrow though just before the ANZAC day holiday on Tuesday ( 25th April )...rather fitting I thought.[:)] Next is to incorporate the feedback for the Getting Started, Advanced Tutorial and Reference manuals. Hopefully by the end of this coming week we'll be ready for our first "Final Candidate" build. It's getting exciting. I am very much looking forward to signing off on this.

Well I did finish the MapMaker manual yesterday ( ANZAC day ). I've been running the auto-testers all the time and have only three minor bugs reported. I'll fix these today and then get onto the final editing.

What? Does this mean you've finally squashed that mother of all bugs, the queen bug herself, the out-of-synch bug that's been delaying the release of COTA?

Probably 3 other minor bugs I imagine.

I notice Arjuna didn't say 2 weeks was impossible! Oh yeah! Everybody make a wish (you know what to wish for!) and that will help speed it along - or so says the little elf sitting next to me

I finished fixing all known bugs tonight. This necesitated some mods to the force allocation routines. These now work much better with less unnecessary cross attaching. The end result is the game has speeded up somewhat. So that's a good thing. [:)]

I've got the auto-testers cranking away over the weekend. I hope to put a final beta build on Monday and then a final candidate next Friday ( touch wood ). If all goes well we should be able to sign off on Fri 12 May.

And what is the procedure after that? We can start downloading straight away? [:D]

No Matrix will need some time to set up the installer and make it ready for download. Probably two to three weeks.

So no COTA before end of may at the earliest then... God, this wait is awful, and just when it's going to come out I am moving to a new house mid June so I won't be able to play much for a couple of days ! Talk about a bad timing to buy a house [;)]
