they removed the paint on B-26s and P-38s in order to reduce weight & improve speed
True, actually of many army planes by 1945. You'll see the pics of P-51s, B-24s, and B-17s were also just left in the factory shine.

That P-40 wasn't a N model! The canopy is wrong and the area behind the cockpit would be cut down. I'd say a P-40E.
