Minnesota? There's a lot of Swedish ancestors living there, I think. Maybe you're a part of our Nordic WWC (World Wide Conspiracy)?

Spent time in jail in '46? Well, then you must be old enough to know a lot about the situation in the States during WW2? Maybe you fought at Guadalcanal or Normandy?

That last post was a lot of misdirection. I am part of the Nortic WWC though, I'm Norwegian and I was staying with my Norwegian grandparents in 46/47 while my dad was working for Pan Am in Guam. My grandfather was the county sheriff and the sheriff's office/residence shared the same building with the jail. My older brother and I rode tricycles around the jail and played with the two non-violent criminals. I was actually born on 20 Sep 1944 and the people who refer to me as granpa were my buddies in Viet Nam in 71/72 because I was 26 years old while they were between 19 and 22. So I didn't fight in Normandy but I do have an interesting story about it (circa 1994).

Arghh, and there is a voice in my head telling me that adding my Italian, Scottish, Irish and English heritage means I am really..... A Norwegian!!!! I knew this moment was coming . I already posted my fear that this was going to happen. Aiyeeah!

Of course you can, Mr. Shafer! Everyones welcome... As long as you like playing wargames, with an emphasis on military strategy.

By the way, I've come up with an idea! :rolleyes: Why can't someone make a computer game where you either play the leader of the Soviet Union or the Third Reich. One should be able to manage production, civil matters, run the war, name and build customized units, decide issues on tank designs... You know like Hitler or Stalin! The game could start in 1938 and end in late 1945. What d'you say? Does it sound interesting? I suppose it would be hell coding it though...

Ear-hair growth is nothing to laugh about. This disease has reached epidemic proportions in elder gentlemen. It greatly effects the hearing sense. Many a night, my wife has made the comment, "Didn't you hear me, I said are you going to quit playing that computer game and come to bed?"

Now, now. This can't possibly have anything to do with ears. This is clearly a symptom of extreme concentration. Long periods of such activity tends to leave it's mark on you. Usually as ear-hair growth of epidemic proportions, as you expressed it.

Kind of sounds like Axis and Allies. The original boardgame was like that, and I thought they had made a computer version of it.

Hmmm... Suppose I'II add my statistics to this thread... born in 1956, I am what we call here in Australia a baby boomer, ie.. part of the generation of massive baby births that occured in this country around this time.. Joined the Royal Australian Navy for nine years, where I first became interested in war books, especially those dealing with the russian front.. Am married with three great kids (adults I should say) and now work as a Project Officer for a major bauxite / alumina producer here in Western Australia.

First came into contact with the WiR type game when I purchased "Second Front" for my Amiga computer, which I still have, and have been hooked ever since. The Amiga is by far a much superior machine over these PC's, with a far better operating system, that is part of a rom chip, and does not take the huge hard drive resources that windows does. Anyhow, in the years that have flowed under the bridge, I have read and studied many many books, documents and micro film pertaining to the eastern front, and this one major conflict especially has me hooked.

You know when to much time has been spent studying this campaign, as I can now read pretty well any literature on this subject and pick out mistakes in terms of in-correct naming / numbering / placing of divisions / Brigades / korps / armies along with their commanders etc etc... Guess I'm in need of a life, or some therapy to wean me off this subject... I don't write much in this WiR forum, but I visit daily to read, and so I would like to thank those who contribute and share their knowledge ...Shane

Now here's a real Norwegian for you all! I am 25 y.o, living in Oslo, Norway.

I started wargaming at an early age (before learning english in school), and had to learn the rules by trial and error. I have at least 30 boxgames in my closet, some which I have never really played and others that I still enjoy. I play regularly AH's Russian Front with a friend. The best boardgames I own, are the ones from The Gamer's Operational Combat Series. These games are a very rewarding view at big campaigns with a special emphasis on supply.

For computer games I have played A LOT of BTS Combat Mission, A real thrill for anyone with an interest in tactics. I only recently rediscovered WIR and have to say that I enjoy it as much today as then.

I work as a train despatcher (you know the guy clearing signals and such) and are quite happy with that. I am recently thinking of cathing up on my university studies, that I left half finished (history and computers).

My girlfriend is not seeing too much of me, but at least she do not know that I play that much games for then she would have made my ass sore.

As to the Burzum caracter earlier mentioned, I have to say he is widely considered to be a nazi, or at least he is teaming up with the worst right-wing political groups here in Norway. Myself is a little more radical oriented in the political field.

Good to see so many knowing and nice people here on this board, someday I might even have the courage to play you as well...

I will add myself as well. I am 31 years old and are working as a materialcontroller for a carcompany.I have been reading about the WWII since i was 10.Started playing wargames a few years after that.I like wargames and PBEM is a gift from the gods.For the first time you can fight a war and still meet intresting people.I live on the west coast of Sweden.

I am 18 year old high school student. I live in Oulu, Finland. Oulu is one of the few cities in our country that are growing rapidly (thanks to Nokia and our other internet&mobile companies.)

I learned english playing those old Sierra adventure games (Larry, Kings Quest and so on) My interest in WW2 and wargaming started when I bought Steel Panthers, (I was 12 at the time!) and since then I have been hooked on WW2 history and wargaming. My only experince in board games is Axis & Allies, we played it our local Youth Center.

Somebody mentioned Burzum, well I listen to black metal also (not Burzum though). But really I listen all kinds of music, from Jimi Hendrix to Massive Attack.

It's nice to see another 18-year old at the forum!

We can start a private club, "The Young Wargamers". (No one above 20 yrs. is allowed to join.)

Just kidding, son, how are things going "up there" in former Leningrad? Hmmm... I've always wanted to visit S:t Petersburg, but can't afford it. By the way, I hope you're aware of the fact that it (the city) was a Swedish fortress before Peter the (uhum) Great captured the damn thing. And I hear you guys have a really hard-ass mayor? They even spoke about him on CBS 60 Minutes. Any comments?
