T53 - North
Over the past turns I continually made one or two attacks in the north. Griefhead has now decided to move his troops out of Karelia. I immediately attack the remaining fort. The odds are ridiculously low.

Situation in the south. Last mud turn! Look at all the guard rifle corps.

A minor encirclement of 5 rifle brigades.

T54 - South
Very important encirclement of 3 rifle corps and 2 cavalry corps and a couple of divisions. I can't let him build a counter-attacking force. South of Rostov an attack fails due to reserve activation of an entire rifle corps. These are very rare. Also, he has weakened his defense of Rostov so much that I change my plans and attempt a frontal attack of the city for the second time. Forgot to take a screenshot but the odds were above 6:0 thanks to my pioneers. I will receive Army Group A + B next turn.

Another minor encirclement. Just trying to cause additional losses and distract him.

T55 - South
I did an HQ buildup last turn and now I am able to form two pockets with numerous rifle corps and cavalry corps. South of Rostov looks wide open. I send the Romanian Cavalry Corps south to link up with the Crimea. My plan is for most of my German divisions to swing north east along the rail line towards Stalingrad.

Game Over

The game has ended. I think losing those rifle and cavalry corps was too much of a blow. In addition the logistic system really favors the Axis in 42. You just can't defend forward against 5 Panzer Corps with 38 to 50 MP.
I don't think the pocket was in any way decisive and I still think this could have been a game going to 45 but I respect Griefhead's decision.
Thanks to Griefhead for the game!

thx for the AAR!
We were just waiting for the coup de grĂ¢ce...
I could fully understand his decision, you hit him too hard with the loss of Moscow.
Not only that the German army was growing faster than his troops, but the quality and CVs must have been really depressing from the soviet side of view.
Would you like to share the statistics of your best troops, like the mighty first Korps?

Congrats on another brilliant performance and well written AAR.
I'd agree with Wuffer, the key point was the fall of Moscow and after that it must have felt like a long haul back.

I don't have a screenshot but I Corps has one unit with 97 morale and three units with 93 morale in it. They probably would have all been at 99 morale but I screwed up the Model transfer on T1. I have another mountain division at 97 moral and a couple of other good infantry divisions. All Panzer and Motorized divisions are above 80 morale. Two of them are at 99 morale.

Well played. I like your style a lot. I think you're the best strategist I've seen on these forums.
I'd like very much to see you take on one of the top guns here when 1.08 is released. It'll help to gauge the balance.

KUDOS for persistent, competent play. Must revise thought that Axis should expect to lose, or, can't possibly survive past 3/45.

Thanks, your game against Tarhunnas was rich in strategy as well. I really liked your calculated summer offensive at Moscow in 42.
I think 1.08 will be a much different game. I really look forward to it and will spend some time testing it with the currently proposed settings.

Yes, I think capturing Moscow was decisive. Not only is all the manpower gone but it is super easy to defend Moscow during reduced blizzard and at the same time you can shelter your best units. I actually increased morale of I Corps during blizzard by attacking out of the urban hexes.
