5th: The weather clears up enough, light clouds, to allow my P-38Gs from Kodiak to sweep in. The first group of 13 is met by 48 Zeros. Odds are in my favor at 6:2 in losses. The second group of 13 gets 5 more for only 1 lost. The final group of 12 gets 6 more. The air losses are actually 35 Zero to 9 P-38s. 4:1 is great, but my replacemnt rate is not high enough to do this daily.

John made the comment during a phone call yesterday that the air war here is the opposite of what is going on vs Canoerebel. He was happy to have lost 45 Zeros for 13 P-40Ks rather than the 6:1 ratio or greater vs my P-38s. His reasoning is the Allies get the P-38s in greater numbers and earlier than in his other game where he wasn't beaten up so much early on. The Allies do get P-38Gs at same time, but at 20 more per month than in his older version of RA.

P38 groups:
"E" models have 3 groups in India/Burma
"F" models have 3 groups in SE Pac (1 is actual on ships inbound from Port Stanley)
"G" models have 2 groups in No Pac (another group in route to Port Stanley from USA)

Need answers to two question.

1) What conditions need to be met at port (size, naval support, AR) for engine damage to be repaired? I have lots of subs in size 5 port with one or two points worth of damage and would like to repair in when they come into port.

2) SSTs - I have mine in SE Pac and need to use them. Can I get a link to tell me how? I've never used them before.

- To carry an LCU (for landing at an enemy base) in combat mode, that unit must be parachute capable.
- AFAIK can only land LCU as prior point at enemy held base.
- Can carry LCU that is not parachute capable, the unit must be in either rest or move mode (don't recall which, just play with it).
- Can carry supply.

sub repair, I believe, disbanded pier side in any size 0 port a sub can repair minor damage, an AS can help with one sub at a time. Unfortunately, I think only shipyards
can repair their major damage, ie AR, ARD types do not have the expertise. Alfred maybe lurking to clarify, ...

Any size 7 port or larger can repair major damage up to 5. Once the damage is above 5 then you need an ARD to do flotation repair or you need to get the ship to a port with a shipyard able to handle the size ship being repaired.

OT - John took his family to see the new Star Wars film for the second time. He is a big fan of this series while I'm probably more a Star Trek fan since I still remember seeing the moon landings growing up. Add in the fact that when cable TV first came out, we got channels 2 to 13 on our TV. One was channel 11 out of NYC which played the whole Star Trek series over and over at 6pm nightly.

OT2 - Since this game has slowed down somewhat and after re-reading "Patton" and "Overlord" I pulled out and installed my old European games. My favorite land battle has always been "Battle of the Bulge" since each side gets to play offense and defense. I started out with the classic board game by Avalon Hill. In 2001, I bought "Bulge '44" by HPS Sims. I didn't know if it would work on Win10, but after getting the latest patch on line, it does. [:)] I also have Sicily, Market Garden, Kursk, Fulda Gap, and Middle East. A few days ago I spoke with John about these and I'm sending him my Sicily CD to play with his son, John IV. I was in junior high (now called middle school) when I caught the WW2 bug. Indirectly, this may slow down our game even more, but it will increase the father-son bonding.

I picked up War in the East at the Christmas sale and am loving it.

As can probably be gleaned from my Avatar, I am a huge eastern front fanboi.

Before I got into WITP/AE, I had two CDs called War in East and War in West (don't remember their names exactly) which were very tactical as I think each turn represented 6 minutes of real time. The editors were great as you could build your maps, create your own OOB, and make your own scenarios. Due to this, I liked the Eastern Front better as the Russians had some serious armored vehicles outside of the famous T-34s you could use.

John already has 3 games going. You think of sending him another one to take up his time.

The good news is that his son will grow up and one day move away from home so you might see the end of this game eventually

As an intensive in home family counselor, I'll trade away my game playing time for him to have more time with his son. By the way, his son is already following in his father's foot steps in his knowledge of world history. John III (former history professor) has already had calls from John IV's teachers about them being corrected when it come to historical errors. [:D]

I remember the dirty look I got when I corrected my grade 10 history teacher. He put the attack on Pearl Harbour on Easter Sunday! Guess he thought students wouldn't know the difference between PH and Okinawa. [:D]

13th: John tries more LRCAP here as 50 Tojo and 27 Zero greet 25 P-38s. I get 6:1 odds and then the next group of 25 gets another 6. By then the LRCAP is gone for the bombers. However, in PM Phase there are 25 Tojo and 20 Zero there as my P-40s are not enough to protect the 37 LB as I lose 6. My bombers still are unable to inflict many casualties to his troops.

John is being more active with his CAP and LRCAP in both areas despite the losses my P-38s are inflicting (lost 9 in two days). He can afford the planes, while I only get 40 P-38Gs per month.

She is headed for Cape Town and then the spring offensive to retake western Australia. M4 Shermans are already being stockpiled....need 6 months worth to upgrade.

Carrier strength - With the arrival of 3 CVEs at Panama, the last CV, CVL, or CVE outside of CV Victorious until March '43 are present. This breaks down to about 540 on my 6 CVs, 54 on 2 CVLs, and 305 on 12 CVEs OR 900 carrier based planes. Enterprise will be headed for Cape Town by end of month while all others met up at San Fran for upgrades and winter weather gear.

You can boost the experience on that new division just by having them move (not strat move) cross-country once they land somewhere big enough. The rate of experience gain is reverse exponential, so they gain quickly at first and then it tapers off.
