You see as me the X as defensive CV....
It can be broken but requires a lot of units and time. I didn't take the picture but, for example, on turn 132 I have done an attempt on Leningrad with 6 rifle corps and 3000 guns and got a 1/1,2 ratio and a tremendous decrease in fort level to .... 4.98
Hum, hum

at the moment, I try to keep the momentum of the offensive from Smolensk to Rostov. I have a good win/loss ratio and morale of my units is regularly climbing. But on the other side my infantry units are exhausted with the continuous fights and pursuit since mid november.

I'm also sure that the germans don't live this period as holidays!

fans in the thread :)
It seems that the center will collapse soon. The Germans planned to retreat to the Dnepr River?

p.s.Which the fate of a encircled tank division?

Retreat to Dneper is pointless as the river is frozen and there is no benefit in it.
p.s.Which the fate of a encircled tank division?

The question should be formulated in other way. What was the fate of Tank Corps that encircled the Panzer division? [:D]

True at this time, but the race to the Dniepr before April will be one of the keys of the game

This newly built tank corps was badly beaten but it's pointless as I have plenty of various armaments in pool and with this fight/defeat they earned faster experience.

I can afford more losses as shown below. Except for AFV, german army is slowly but surely weakening.

read OOB not losses, wrong selection of Excel....

Turn 132, 23th december 1943

Everything is frozen on the eastern front due to the blizzard! In order to create a warmer feeling for the axis troops we send them bombs, shells, rockets... and help them to run.

Grinding is on from Smonlensk to Rostov. Dniepr is 60 miles ahead of our spearheads east of Moghilev

So far the Axis forces have done very well with an orderly retreat, especially covering the long distances in the south. Trading space for time in a way, and very effectively too.

Turn 133, 30th december 1943

Last week of 1943, russian army is on the offensive but nothing decisive only grinding. Due to cost of Mp's during blizzard, german army is hard to grasp in the South.

Agreed. Bobo did a good job but I think that in some cases losses are far too low. See below 2 examples

At this stage of the war, I have an inadequate allocation of my strength. Russian army is too strong in the South while sectors from Smolensk to Karelia are too weak to be on the offensive.

Volkov front will be extracted from southern Russia and redeployed in the north.

Why is Volkov front redeploy 20 km back from rr line.

Is this so they are not seen by enemy b/c obviously better supply when on rr.

Also on retreats. I observe that very high German experienced units retreat very orderly. Thus sometimes retreat where not thru zoc gives no additional losses.
This is ok by me it when they go thru zoc that losses seem extra low for the same experienced troops. Thru a zoc casualties should be adjusted upward.

It was on the front line and is moving to the railhead. They are at Kanteminovka and 2 hexes South of Novy Oskol

Agreed AFV losses are looking far too low

Turn 134, 6th january 1944

Last full year of fights, already 133 turns completed. Awesome game!

New datas are available. I get the confirmation that my TOE is all but at 100%. Maybe I should disband some units... Cities AA for example?

Image

The OOB is every turn more in my favor. My OOB is at a peak while the german one is slowly but surely decreasing, except for AFV...

Image

Nex year means also new guard ratio.

Turn 134, 6th january 1944

I have decided to extend the bloodbath area north of Smolensk. There is nothing valuable here but the german will have to send some reinforcements here that would have been uesefull somewhere else.

I don't believe that Bobo has a significant strategic reserve.

Good nexs, some german inf divs are now close from 10k men....

Image

In the South, the germans are still giving ground to prevent successfull attacks. Sumy's area is strongly defended.

Turn 134, 13th january 1944

Due to the recent progress and with only 3 FBD russians have difficulties to supply the front line units. I need 200K trucks while the pool is only of 144K.

But as said Napoleon: "l'intendance suivra" I suppose in English "logistics will be in place".

Smolensk

Newly arrived units will expand and reinforce the attacks north of Smolensk. Defensive CV's look very weak

Image

South
Germans continue to give ground. 3 german inf divs are just above 10k men each. Nice.

Turn 136, 20th january 1944

My main aim till end march is to cross the Dniepr before mud occurs. In the center, it's 50 miles ahead. The crossing will facilitate further progress

Smolensk

Russians strongly hit the german defences. Defence is desequilibrated but not broken. See german AFV losses in the southern part of the map [:(]

Kharkov is 20 miles ahead. Will the germans fight for it? Not sure at all.

Stalino

The germans have a good defensive line in this area with level 3 entrenchment. They try to delay russians advance. Gorlovka is liberated as it already was during winter 1941/1942.

Image

Typical losses. Axis cannot afford losing 40k men per turn. I can loose 80K.

Thanks for the trucks [;)]

And sorry for Gorlovka. The city was badly hurt by the fights. His remaining population was 1 (damage 86) instead of 6 [:(]

Turn 137, 27th january 1944

Redeploying Volkhov front proved to be a good idea. We have created a new axe of progress around Smolensk and I'm still much stronger than the germans in the south.

Smolensk
The germans give up the city to prevent an encirclement. Inf losses are too much for german's replacement. Note the 3 german inf divs with less than 10k men...

67k losses aren't an issue for russian army.
