Both of my wife are looking at scrap booking and photography. And streaming.

[:-] Hey now! You can't do that in Missouri or Illinois! Maybe Utah, but not there...[X(]

My big problem isn't with windows 10. It's with All the software that I'll lose the use of. My wife has windows 10, and while she certainly doesn't love it , we are able to live with it. It's really not that I can't put on my big boy pants , but rather that it's a really bad time for me to convert ALL my systems , programs , and learn a new system to boot. I'll do it eventually , but just not now.

My reason for buy more computer than I need is simple. I hang on to things. My current computer is over 11 years old. BUT I keep updating it to pretty current standards. And even after I purchase the new computer , I'll have this one fixed and updated , and use THIS one for my windows 7 programs. The new one I'll eventually update. (Which by the way , will probably be when Microsoft finds and fixes most of the bugs in 10).

I also like to be able to grow. So I've always tried to reach beyond my current needs. So yeah , I realize it's more than I need. NOW. But what about in a couple of months, or years? Both of my wife are looking at scrap booking and photography. And streaming.

Thanks for your advice guys. I really appreciate it. But I'm not looking to do it overly cheap. I just don't want to make mistake by getting too cheap.
I don't know of any software that runs on Windows 7 (or Vista) that does not run on Windows 10. Maybe if you elaborate a bit more here you might get some good guidance.

Well, I don't know about that. At least some shady opinions or faulty logic.

That spec seems way overkill for your intended use unless you are heavily into first person shooters and or MMO's or other graphic intesive gaming or processing. You should be able to buy good, entry or even slightly abouve entry level first person shoort PC's for a third of that ($500 to $700), the hitch is they will probably come with Windows 8 (with a free upgrade to 10) or Windows 10. Is it an absolute must that you stay on Windows 7?

I ended up building my gaming PC two years ago and will do the same thing the next time I want to upgrade. You can find many suggested builds on-line for many price ranges. It's a little bit of a time ivestment and the waiting game to get parts shipped to you, but its a worthwhile exercise. I have no expertise in building computers, or any special electronics skills and I found it both enterntaining and rewarding. Everything is plug-n-play, especially if you follow a build script and you can easily find YOu Tube videos that coever eveything.

Good luck in which ever direction you head.
...except for the 1 GB graphics card, which is a low-spec today. I bought my current desktop around 5 years ago with just built-in (on chip) graphics and about 1 1/2 years ago I upgraded to a 2 GB board for pretty cheap money, no more than $50 or $60 (but I would have to look it up to be sure).

Microsoft 7 comes with several media type programs I use. Microsoft 10 comes ala carte. I can use them on 10. AFTER I BUY them . Again.

Steve, most of the porn-viewing media programs out there are third party and are Microsoft 10 compatible.

Or...um...so I hear.

Windows media center is the biggest one, but I'll need to get back to you on the other 2 or 3

Steve, if you are hooked on the Windows 7 interface you could always try http://www.classicshell.net/

You have all the advantages of the newer OS but it still has a Win7 style interface and unmasks all the old tools which are still there but buried.

I use it on a Win8.1 laptop and barely know what the word 'Metro' means. [;)]

A very good site is http://download.cnet.com/windows/
Lots of quality, mostly free software for people in your situation.

Beware cnet downloads - they developed a reputation for wrapping crap-ware installers around the legit software they hosted. Not sure if they still do that, but it was quite a stink and they did it for a long time.

This is all very interesting and all, but what's with the pew pew pew? No screenshots or combat reports? Fine. Explain in your own words what's going on in the war, Steve. It's difficult to follow anything with only cursory updates. [8D]

Nothing all that much has happened. I deployed all subs that I had to various "choke points" in the DEI with hopes of catching his CV's. My ships in Manila are "hunkered down" under maximum Fighter protection till an opening occurs to allow escape. He seems to have changed policies in regard to his "netties". He had seemed to have cautious with them , using them as MPA's , even to the point of not letting them hunt force "Z" (instead committing his entire CV force for the task. (Sorry...the word "BAKA"! comes to mind. FOOL!). Now he apparently sent two dozen to bomb Manila in broad daylight. (With no escort). In the mauling that ensued 12 were shot down. 10 damaged (although I'm guessing several of these were OP losses.) I doubt that he'll do that again. This had to be a screw up on his part. The good news , is that helps any escaping ships escape.

Other wise , nothing new. He killed a couple of AKL's , my subs killed a couple of AK's (with help from the Videbeast). I have more Vildebeast going into reinforce Singapore.

My two CV's are still proceeding south (originally to avoid a potential CV hunting KB. Now they are fleeing a Tsunami of subs.) If I had just half a dozen decent ASW DD's , I'd send the to interfere with the DEI , but until my DD's upgrade and I can trade out the YBD's for F4F's, I'm reluctant to commit them. I'd like to pick up the Saratoga and the Yorktown will be ready in less than a month. If I hold off, in less than six weeks I can go forth with good DD's , swapped out leaders , lots of fighters and FOUR combat ready CV's. Now? I'd be reluctant to take on 2 CVL's.

I'm going to let prudence rule for now. The two CV's I winged will probably still be in the yards, maybe I'll cripple another , and for a month or two , I'LL have the initiative , and he can react to me. That's not bad for early Feb. 1942. [:)]

On the spectrum from fanaticism-aggression-prudence-cowardice, I think you're taking the prudent approach. What can I say to convince you to attack while you have a (temporary) advantage? His troop TFs are the epitome of exposed liabilities, whether they're in the DEI or SoPac. They won't be in two months.

Your advantage is *now*. The time to strike is *now*. A good plan acted upon immediately is better than a great plan acted upon next month. Capitalize on his mistakes and really throw off his time table. Spill their blood! Shoot them in the belly! My friend, you need a kick in the complacency. Get back in there and fight!

Andre I think you've been playing Japan way too long. 1) time is always on my side , not his. HE should be shooting me in the belly , he is the one who needs to exploit the situation.

2) rule number 1 of being the allies is don't lose your CV's! My CV's are under strength in fighters (one of them has freakin' Buffalos for God sake!) , My best asw rated DD is a 2, and if you look at all the forward bases I'll need to operate out of there is no supplies , and generally not enough fuel to fill a DD , let alone a CV TF. 3) I have no assets to exploit a break through. No Marines , no fuel, (BTW , Did I mention NO FUEL) very little air cover , no decent forward deployed MPA's and all of my subs are not scouting , but hunting.

Sorry my friend. I know that I disappoint you , but I'm going to do this right. I am not trading away my future advantages by stealing defeat from the jaws of victory. Everything I've seen about Geoff, both in this game and in reading his AAR's suggest that he's careless , impulsive and given to reckless wild shots. The response calls for a Spruance , not a Halsey.

I'm not only not ready, I'm no where's near ready. But in a month or two I will be. It'll keep. [:)]
