Tip for repairing the aircrafts faster:

Split/divide the big group to three sub groups. This way the planes repair at least three times faster.

I am bit worried about how the Zeke->Reppu upgrade will happen. Hopefully you manage to build enough A6M8 before they all auto upgrade to Reppu.

This has been great reading so far. Don't give up even though it may be frustrating some times. Good luck!

Why annoyed - hey, it is 1945 and he is only able to pull off Doolittle type raids?  At great risk?  Cool!

To me the problem is fundamental flaw of asymmetric game design. By giving one side strategic as well as tactical options (research, production) the game falls down. Either both sides should be the role of commander who makes the best of what they are given, or both sides should be allowed some flexibility in production and research. As it stands there is no feedback loop to allow the Allies to counter Japan’s strategic choices, so you get frustrated players.
 
Plus odd to have a game with Shindens, but no Bearcats or Tigercats, or Meteors, Spear Fish and Sea Furies. Meteors weren’t sent to CBI because they weren’t needed – the Japanese were so beaten up at the end that Grants were still used in Burma in 1945, two years after they were obsolete in ETO. AFAIK, Tigercats and Bearcats were starting to arrive 3Q 1945.
 
Anyway, rant over. Just get the feeling that both of you are going through the motions, and not much enjoying what the game is "forcing" you to do.

Totally I concur. I don't see anything worth of complaining regarding Japanese side of things. They are far more efficient than ever in RL in 1945.

Timon; I can't divide anymore airgroups! There is a limit on the number of groups that can be divided on a first serve basis.
Can ask Andy if he would be so kind to rebuild some of his groups - think he's splitting his bomber groups to make them less prone to turn back enmasse
when morale is low.

At times it's mega frustrating and venting some steam at the forum is obligatory from time to time!-)

I took advantage of the situation when Wobbly overcommitted in Burma and captured India.
This put me in a much better situation than in RL. Alas, the Japanese side of things is much more efficient when compared to RL.
Imagine how powerless you feel when you have 3000 fighters and 2000 bombers and still can't protect your capital because radar doesn't work
to scramble enough fighters. 80 Corsairs on a sweep from a few small escort carriers is enough to shoot down half my Tokyo CAP flown by my best interceptor units and pilots.

Of course this is frustrating!! If Andy sent in a huge Essex group TF with 400 fighters things would have been different, but he can do it with
a few cve's!!! [:@] 

While the Allies don't get Bearcats - they still got the Corsair [:(] 

Game design is something we can't influence; Allies have their cons and pros, same with Japan.
I offered Andy to turn PDU on, but he declined. So his Hellcat problems I can do nothing about...afraid that he will simply gather 1000 ships and
bulldoze 250k troops ashore somewhere together with 2 millions supplies and fuel and establish an Uber CAP and start leveling all of Japans cities. 
There is nothing I can do about this, no matter how many ships and ac I got, as long as losses doesn't matter for Andy and Allied public opinion.

If I can't protect the Home Islands from being trashed despite the strong strategic and tactical Japan has, morale will suffer. 
Resistance is futile could be the slogan for 1945; not withstanding the current state of affairs for the Empire [8|]

Most of the time I enjoy WitP immensly, but irony and humor are important weapons for any Samurai struggling to get through 1945 in WitP!
Pretty sure Andy is also having rants on his AAR [&:] [;)]

Questions: Must B-29s be within normal bombing range of the Home Islands in order to drop A-bombs, or can they do it from extended range? (Didn't think so)

Checked all my airgroups and found that only 2 had been split.
Asked Andy if he could rebuild a couple of his and let me have half of the 'split groups'.

Does anyone know how many airgroups that can be split in a game, 8-10-12? I can't remember [&:]

I don't expect much, can't threaten the enemy unless we can get the enemy carriers away
from the transports....hmmmmm! [;)]

I can confirm that playing as Japanese in the late war period isn't so fun as it looks like from the AARs. You know that i'm playing with PDU and i'm in somewhat better position. But once when Andy establish bases in the range of my main Malayan Afs i will be over - P-47 D are absolute killers, trust me!

It is not rare situation that i spent two hours on single turn - trasfering depleted groups, thinking what should i do to maximise my efforts, checking production etc, etc... i'm not complaining, but after someone experience situation like PzB did with HI raid he should get somewhat frustrated, i'm afraid. All effort, an hours spent for turn just to watch how your cuning plans failed...[8|]...of course recent happening was heavily influenced by luck and that is a spice in this game. Sometimes you will be lucky sometimes dont.

Even when you inflict heavy damage to Allies, they just need to send new contigents of the CV(E)s, airgroups etc and you will be toast. Of course, that isn't something that JFBs should complain, but i'm only trying to explain the our position... personally, i think that PzB deserved Reppus and have some fun in the game after a year and half period when he tried everything he could to slow down enemy, taking heavy beatings and striked with kamikaze bugs etc....

i'm not sure does Andy and PzB have house rule about corsairs on CVEs - it looks bit stretchy to me.... Andy and me doesn't have such HR but i think we agree that they can be used at CVE at some point (i must check somewhere in my AAR where i posted HR) - since we playing PDU i felt that wouldn't be fair to limit Andy on 'historical' base when we playing a candyland game. But PzB and Andys game is somewhat different....

As for spliting groups, i think that maximum is 16 or 18...not sure about that....

Lost some 50 LRCAP fighters to T-bolts and Lightnings today. A lot of Allied LBA types are almost as deadly as Corsairs/Mustangs.[/size]

Very nice move but you should have bombed at 6000 feet. Losses to AA will not have been worse, they may even be lower, and bombers will score more hits.

The goal with my massive Betty strike was two fold:

1. To destroy enemy B-29s on the ground and hurt Andy's bomber offensive against the Home Island.
It will take quite some time to repair and replace damaged and lost ac and regain morale.

2. Force Andy to place fighters on Wake Island. This will reduce the number of B-29s he can operate out of there.
If I don't find CAP fighters there I wil send 300 Betties back [;)] Think I have some 400 Betties and 200 Frances, the latter
has a max range of 15 - the Betties stretch to 20! Most of the crews have medium exp and I doubt they will be very effective against CAP'ed enemy TFs. Losses will be horrendous.

5 days ago I sent Emily's on recon mission over Wake and they didn't find any CAP fighters. Didn't dare to repeat
the recon and give our plans away. Today we faced some deadly Black Widow nightfighters on CAP. Beats me why NFs were
on daylight CAP. A bunch of them tried to bomb Tokyo from Marcus today.

Pauk, Andy also wanted to ask me about releasing some 'splits' for airgroups. He was surprised that I only had 2.
He 'gave' me one today, I asked to be granted half of the 'splits'. Andy has been playing weel lately, it's mostly the usual
matters that concerns me. They kinda escalates together with the war.

Moved them in 5 days ago and rested them dispersed on all Mariana islands. Took two days
before they launched. Was afraid that Andy either had CAP'ed Marcus or that the B-29s were
away bombing Tokyo. Must be satisfied with the results!

Air Losses

We lost a lot of ac today, mostly because of our CAP effort at Borneo and out strikes
at the enemy at Iwo! The raid on Wake also cost us 27 Betties.

I lost the screenie of the enemy positions around Wake and the huge armada's of ships moving from Midway
towards Marcus. The strike group that ran over our I class sub was heading NNW almost due north of Midway.
This was no supply convoy, but a massive invasion armada! It could be a re-newed offensive against the Bonins,
or something else. Will continue to shadow the enemy. Now with 2 subs and 3 seaplane tenders. One of the latter
ended up 2 hexes from a massive grouping of enemy convoys and fleets. Everything from BBs to LCMs reported.

North of Midway?&nbsp; Heading NNW?&nbsp; There aint much thataway except the Home Islands.

The next D-Day is coming closer!
I'm moving more base forces to the Okinawas. That and supply movements is all that remains.

Home Island defenses are strong Bbbf, but if Andy wants to he may find a weak spot were he can capture _one_ base
and insert his Uber CAP. Then I'm toast. Hope he doesn't do something like that [:-]

There are 5-800 AP and 9 forts in all coastal bases in Western - Central - Eastern parts of Home Islands stretching from
Formos-Okinawas to Sakhalin islands. Islands are of course most vulnerable. Has tried to do something about this.
Got 2 divisions an aviation regiments and various para and support units in reserve and 1400 pol points in reserve.

Somehow I don't think it's the Bonins again either, but it's either that or the Home Islands.
Any other targets and he would have chosen anoter route to the target....well, at least I would have [;)]

If he comes, it will be in huge force after the Bonin's butchery.

He knows what landing against L9 forts is like.&nbsp; I would expect at least 10+ Divisions plus lots of armour and support in a landing on the HI.&nbsp; At least 4000 AV worth.

That's true Bbbf! Home Islands is suicide choice for Andy, I can have 2000 AV in 5 bases within a week
and there is no base with less than 9 forts and 4-500 AS at the moment and I have boosted aviation support
considerably. Okinawas, Bonins and Sakhalin are veritable fortresses and Formosa is well defended.

Only the Philippines can be invaded and captured relatively easily because of all the bases there, can't defend them
all. A mobile reserve will move out from Manila to the invasion zones.

WitP does _NOT_ handle mega battles very well unfortunately. So I'm a bit afraid there could be much frustration next
time Andy wades ashore.

Splendid weather! B-29s grounded at Hue and Marcus and enemy cve fleet is washed out while transport TF isn't.

1st of May 1945. We have 11 Reppus in the pools. Now we make as many we can while we wait for the A6M8 to go into production.
This is a bug as 'obsolete' types are not bypassed in the upgrade path. So I should actually have been able to upgrade my first Daitai
with the Reppu in 2 days [:-]

Enemy fleets are continuing towards Marcus Island from Midway. I don't have that many recon assets anymore as our subs are extremely vulnerable to
Allied asw.

Hasn´t somebody posted recently that he got the Reppu first but there was no A6M8 production at the point the Reppu was available. Result was that the A6M8 rd autoupgraded to Reppu factories and not a single A6M8 was ever produced which meant it was NOT possible to upgrade any Zeke to either A6M8 nor Reppu! This is only for the research factories. As long as the A6M8 is not avialable the Zeke production will not upgrade, also not to the A7M2. When the A6M8 becomes available the production factories (A6M5) will first upgrade to the A6M8 and then (at least one day later) to the A7M2. So in the worst case all former A6M5 factories will produce the A6M8 for only one day before upgrading again, but this should still be enough to upgrade all airgroup one after another.

The plan is that all A6M5 factories first upgrade to A6M8 before A7M2. We have so many factories
that we should be able to produce 50 A6M8's that can be used as upgrades.

Has this been fixed in later patches?

Today we landed paras at Bien Ho and only bad luck prevented us from re-capturing it.
Our bombers hurt the Nz Cav Bde there and we lacked only a few AP to achieve a 2-1 odds.
