During the NAV air phase Japan put a NAV into the 3-box off the Japanese Coast. This air action allowed the allies, as the non-phasing player, to try to initiate a naval combat there. Their attempt failed as the search rolls for both sides were unsuccessful.

Looks like the allied navies forgot the war is still on. Allied transports carrying supplies were left unescorted in box 0 and paid the price.

For the second round the allies sent a fighter unit out to the 0-box to provided some level of escort the what was left of the defenseless transports.
