The German crew of the heavy cruiser Adm Scheer refused to surrender to the allies or scuttle their ship. Instead, they choose to try to sail around the world and continue the fight against the allies by joining the Japanese.
In Rhodes, hardcore German u-boat crews and Italian submarine crews have also refused to surrender or scuttle their boats. However, they lack the organization necessary to actually sail away from their port of Dodecanse.

The Admiral Scheer manage to run the RN blockade in the Azaian Sea, however they are stopped by a strong RN force in the West Indian Ocean. Intent on running the blockade the Admiral Scheer elects to fight through the sea area, which was a deadly mistake.
