I would agree with that.

Every time he says that, I am waiting to see an entire Japanese invasion fleet at the bottom of the ocean. However, it usually is 1-2 Jap bombers lost.

I am NOT complaining. I just think it is kinda funny.

Were any of those files I e-mail over work well enough? I think the .jpg file is the best fit. Feel free to forward the files to anyone .

I am going to try to use the JPG to draw on with ArcGIS, but it will be Monday before I can get to it. It will be helpful in communicating with Harvey and Jeff on plans if I can graphically send them plans and then they can also draw on them. We can collaborate better that way.

Into February we go...

Not much going on. Loyang is in danger of being cut off from Sian, but we have forces moving from Loyang into the hex just to the west along with the large (nearly 250 AV) Corp there already. Also the 27 aircraft AVG with P40Es is set to LRCAP this hex in anticipation of large number of targets showing up here as is the normal Japanese practice.

Yorktown has met up with the Saratoga, Lexington, and Enterprise in SOPAC. We need to think about shifting around some escorts to even things out. Two S boats were moved to Gasmata to maybe pick up some transports there. Or even a capital ship! One of the blocking subs near Milne Bay moved to the gap near Lae to cover that exit.

Logistical stuff moving around as it should. Won't bore everyone with the details.

Notes for 2 Feb 42
Dominion Monarch is due for withdrawal. She is in TF115 enroute to the map from off map due in 8 days. We need to make note that she needs to detach and get to a port ASAP. We are losing 20 PP a day from her not withdrawing.

There is one more ship due this month, the AP Joseph T. Dickmam at Cape Town on the 24th. She should not be sent on any mission lasting more than three weeks to make sure we don’t get penalized for her also.

The one after that is the xAP Queen Elizabeth. That is in April. We haven’t needed that much lift in one ship for troops yet, so, she is sitting at San Francisco.

Checked usual stuff on CS convoys, all working.

Turned off all HI in Australia.

Moved two xAKs, one into the fleet waiting, one from Cristobal to Balboa in the Canal Zone.

Loading up units for Bora Bora then on to Sydney.

90k supply speed 12 convoy leaving LA for Sydney.

More ships due at LA in 2 days from the Canal Zone. This will finish up a speed 14 supply convoy which will leave when loaded. Should be another 90k in supply.

AVG 1st Sqn set to LRCAP Loyang. 2nd Sqn still waiting on replacements at Chungking. No other changes in China.

Fairly quiet turn this go around for 2/2/42.

And, a quiet day between 7 DEC 41 and 30 MAR 42 are a good day for us.

3 FEB 42 Notes

CONUS:

TF299 is just outside of San Diego, separating DD O’Brian from it and sending it back to the Canal Zone for more escort duties.

The DD Walke is three days out from the Canal Zone and will join the TF forming there that has currently 14 ships in it and should have the CL Nashville, and 2 more transports arriving by then. This will then go to LA. The Nashville will wait on the Hornets arrival from Eastern USA.

NOPAC:

We continue to move supplies and fuel to the various locations here. There is concern about the build up at Attu. There are now six enemy units there according to our recon flights out of Dutch. I am thinking that we need to get “boots on the ground” in Adak before the Japanese, so we don’t have to take it from them with the horrible conditions that exist in this region.

SOPAC:

Logistics continue to move as planned through this area.

We may want to consider moving Lark BN to the dot base on the North coast of New Britain. Yes, this will take a month and a half to get there, but once they do they will be able to be airlifted out. As it is right now, they are doing nothing but rotting in the jungle. It will also give the Japanese something to worry about.

I am also proposing that we move one of the S-Boats at Gasmata to a port on the coast of Australia and load it with mines and put some at Lae/Milne Bay/Gasmata or thereabouts. This is not intended to really inflict damage on the enemy physically, but to get them second guessing as to where the next minefield is going to appear.

China:

The encirclement of Loyang is still being setup, will we be able to break out? Don’t know for sure. We will see how it goes. The AVG showed up again and will continue to keep the IJA on their toes.

Mike mentioned two BBs sunk by Borneo....FOG mind you, but if this is true. That is a good deal for us!

The 2xBB loss to mines is from 1/22/42. It will be interesting to see if it stays on the report list in tracker. With FOW it could be anything including nothing at all. The report is two Kongo's, so even better.

It is possible that they could downgrade to CA's, CL's and/or lower combination. I've seen that happen. Either way, I think you got a couple of keepers.[;)]

I would be happy with a pair of CAs also.

Task Force Z will be fully mission capable before the end of Feb. Two fewer Japanese fast BBs is real good news for the Burma-India theater.......

Units in the open in China are dying, but they are going to be surrounded in Loyang anyways. Gets them back in the que quicker!

Hornet is 6 days from the canal zone, CL Nashville, and a Sims class DD will be there to escort her to her destination. Where do we want to send her? She is going to need other escorts than one CL and DD!

Coastal CD unit from Seattle heading to Dutch to bolster the defenses there. Fuel and supplies are moving slowly but consistantly into the NOPAC area of operations and will be of good amount in storage there when we need it.

Jeff, Harvey was right. TF179 is going to have a problem unloading at PM. Need to reroute it to Townsville to unload there and then change to amphibious to take the BF to PM. Drat... Rookie mistake. Sorry. The CVs need to stop following it and return to the Coral Sea around hex 104,144 to wait on this to be completed.
