The plan for the Italians is to stretch the RN all over the place so they can strike in one concentrated sea area.

The next plan is to put some air units and submarines in the Western Med to attack the convoys. Bomber Command and the RAF put some aircraft from Malta into the air to try and protect the convoys, but they are all in the 0 Sea Box and so liable to surprise...

Meanwhile in China, the weather continues to frustrate the Japanese who have no intention of attacking in the mountains in rain.

The Turn moves back to the Allies and the weather takes a distinct turn for the worse. The Med, South Monsoon and South Temperate are Fine - everywhere else is Rain or Storm.

This is great news for the Chinese who continue to stay exactly where they are and let the Japanese do the hard work.

In order to try and bring about action in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Germans and Italians bring more aircraft into the 1 and 3 sea boxes and seek to initiate combat.

They also bring in their subs to join in the search - but the dice roll is a disappointing 7 "Damn Nakatomi dice...." mumbles Campioni.

The CW then roll a 4 - once again no combat will take place this impulse.

Weather and Initiative

The Axis take the initiative but the weather is a mix of Snow, Storm and Blizzard. The North Monsoon however is Fine and so the Japanese will be hoping for some progress there having been stalled for a turn or two.

Just out of curiosity, how many fighter units have you kept back to guard the Reich and France from the strategic bombers?

I am really finding this annoying from the standpoint that I have 6 fighters (4 109, 2 110) and still can't get coverage against the strategic attacks. Its not like I have sent a lot of fighters off to Russia either and I have made a pretty big investment in the Luftwaffe and didn't take very many losses at all in the battle for France.

I read someplace there is some discussion about new interception rules where bombers go 4 hexes at a time and the 4th hex is a potential interception point. I think this may be a big help and solution to the issue since old slow bombers can pass over perfectly fine fighters on the way to bomb a factory that is out of intercept range.

Just wondering if anyone else house rules this. Obviously it can't be fixed that easily in MWiF and there are more important things to look after.

Just three at the moment. However there is good reason for this.

a) The CW has few Strategic Bombers on the map.
b) Until recently they could not fly as such as the CW needed to protect the BEF and BEF II on the continent
c) The Mediterranean commitment of the Luftwaffe means that Strategic Bombers are not going to be featuring high in the production queue for the CW anytime soon..

The weather grounds aircraft in the Mediterranean much to the chagrin of Raeder and co. The RM puts 4 submarines to sea in the Western Mediterranean but searches of 10 (Axis) and 3 (Allies) fail to trouble the scorers..

However, the Japanese are looking to take advantage of a break in the weather with two attacks in southern China - both at 5:1.

The first attack, in the mountains north Nanning, is 5:1, no modifiers on the Assault chart...

...emphatic. Its a 10 from the Nakatomi dice. The Kunming Warlord is destroyed and the Japanese are not disorganised.

The second attack, also in the mountains, this time south of Chiakiang is at the same odds, modifiers and CRT. The Japanese forces prepare the dice...

...but its only a 2. The Chinese unit is destroyed but at the cost of a Japanese unit (fortunately they have a division) and all are disorganised.

Only the city of Nanning in the south remains in Chinese hands.

The Mediterranean winter remains atrocious, grounding the Allies and Axis aircraft alike. There is little for the Allies to do - other than the Soviets still desperately trying to get in position.

Maybe it is time for Japan to prepare for war with USA?

Edit: And maybe Japan should occupy French Indo-China if it is controlled by Vichy France.

The plan is to take Nanning, thus completely opening up the route to French Indo-China [:)]
