Instead I have decided to found a "cult" I call it "Joyism" We worship all that is Greyjoy...

And the symbol of joyism is the 4EB on the ground to keep it safe?

Bullwinkle,

I re-iterate.... I didn't say, to use your phrase, that the beta change is a "yawn".

[:D]Sorry, I thought the question mark would make this seem OK. I just love cargo cults so I had to make the joke. You're fine. I kind of agree with your caution. Even if you have 650 bombers a couple of bad air battles might put you past your replacement rate. That being said, if your are not going to use your bombers here where would you use them. Anyway, I'm sure this groups knows all about cargo cults. For those that don't, it pretty fascinating stuff:

No need to be sorry John! i got it and was kidding too[;)]

A question for you experten out there.... do you think for what concerns strat bombing the terrain and/or forts do play any difference in the overall result of the bombing?
i know they make difference in ground or airstrip bombings, but i'm not sure if they do in Strat bombing...

planning planning planning.... today will be slow cause Rader is pretty busy....so i'm spending lot of time in planning the next strat bombing campaign...changing leaders, changing HQs... dirty work some may call it

Not that I am aware of. AAA is nasty to large bombers in large concentrations. The high altitude will help, but you are still going to get increased operational losses as many bombers get damaged and don't fly again. A thought. Nemo told you to hurry up before he got lots of fighters home. Too late for that. However, Raeder probably has not gotten all the AAA back from India and elsewhere. They are on the way, but you will get a AAA "discount" while that stuff is in transit

I'm not sure that forts or terrain is relevant, you need to attack the most worthwhile targets that your air force can reach and afford.

You now seem to have given rader plenty of time to get his AAA and fighters in place, isnt it about time to start using that island you captured?

not so sure. Fighters yes, but he had plenty of AA in India and the SW pacific that GJ knows of and I bet the DEI had lots. It's close to getting home, but probably not all there yet. Also, only the really heave stuff is useful for high altitude bombers. I'm not expert on Japanese AA, but if I were in GJ position I would research the heavy AA units and find their maximum effective altitude. Some of it can't be avoided, but one can make educated choices

Ok guys...you wanted blood and mass destruction? epic struggles and Gods' battles?

Well, you're gonna have it next turn.

MAEBASHI is targetted.
More than 1500 enemy fighters based in a range of 2 hexes.
We're gonna have 200 P-47s sweeping from Hakkodate, 100 P-38s on LRCAP from Hakkodate (still lvl 8 AF so i had to keep the numbers down[:(] in order to avoid air stacking limits), more 340 planes sweeping from Sapporo, 100 planes escorting from Sapporo (which is overstacked) and 600 4Es taking off from Bihoro.

3 HQs present (Bihoro, Sapporo and Hakkodate).

Targets? A/C factories at Maebashi...more than 700 fighters are produced there monthly

It's gonna be a hell of a battle....

And i'm sweating at the idea of how many pilots i'm gonna lose....[:o][:o][:o]

but, as you all know...i have to

Flak should be low... Maebashi is the only base with less than 100 guns present...

finger crossed....

I fear i'm facing for the first time the dreaded KI-83....[X(]

mmmmmm............ results are mixed.

Our fighters did outstanding...while our 4Es scored very few hits...[:(] and, despite all my efforts, coordination remains terrible.... when they arrived well grouped they managed to remain safe...but lots of them arrived scattered...and the LRCAP was overwhelmed after few passages so most of my liberators arrived without any escort...

650 bombers in two days scored less than 50 points of damages to his factories...a howfull result if you ask me

KB popped up near Palmyra, sinking an xAKL, while another CV division is stationing near Sydney....[&:]

One thing is sure....the groups who suffered the most are those who were on LRCAP (P-38s)....and they didn't provide any substantial help to the 4Es....

While our P-47s did really a great job....my guess? we lost at least 150 planes and some 100 pilots....Japan, just looking at the reply, should have lost something like 300 fighters...to say the least...

Hopefully my recon will give me a good idea of our bombing results... 150/200 planes isn't really sustainable if it's the cost for 30 factory points...

Anyway i think i can draw the first assumption from what i've seen here.... Japanese defences, even when so dense and brutal, can be broken and penetrated by our fighters. What i need now is to figure out how to avoid the coordination problem...i need my sweeps to arrive togheder and before the bombers. And i need my bombers to remain togheder

B29s are still grouping....won't throw them away before i can manage to get a decent punch
