I had fun reading this.

It seems conquering Japan really took a long time. How often is Japan defeated in other games?

11.5.7.
CHOOSING COMBAT TYPE
1.You can choose the combat type if you spend 4 surprise points. You can even choose a combat type not normally allowed (e.g. SUB combat even if no enemy convoy points are included);

2.You can choose to make it a naval air combat (active side decides first) if you have an aircraft unit or undamaged CV (CVPiF/SiF option 56: with a carrier plane) included and the weather in the sea area is neither storm nor blizzard;
3.If it is not a naval air combat, you can choose to make it a submarine combat (active side decides first) if you have a SUB included and your opponent has any convoy points included

Alright, what am I missing here.

1.) The Italians do not have 4 surprise points, therefore they cannot automatically choose a submarine combat.
2.) The CW does have an undamaged CV (CVPif/SiF option 56 with a carrier plane) included and it is neither storm nor blizzard, so why does the CW not choose a naval air combat?

Not sure. Honestly, I can't recall how that battle transpired. Could the surprise impulse have something to do with the Italians being able to force a sub combat. If not, then I must have done something wrong as the CW. [&:]

The naval combat pic you posted shows that the Axis has 0 surprize points (which is what I was keying off of), however, two of the subs have MPs of 5 and two have MPs of 4; the 5 MP subs could have been in the 3 sea box.
Based upon the pic, it appears that all of the Subs were in the 2 sea box, in which case the Italians would have had 3 surprize points (highest box with included units (2)+the Allied die roll of 1).
If it were not a surprise impulse, the Allies would have had 3 surprize points as well (highest box with included units (0)+ the Axis die roll of 3).
However, it was a surprise impulse so the CW should have had zero surprise points. So it appears that the programme ignored that the CW was surprised.

I am enjoying AARs in general and I appreciate the player rkr1958 for posting the game as it helps me by comparing what I do with what he does...and I appreciate the advice / criticism from players trying to help Rkr1958 as sometimes I agree with the advice and sometimes I dont but either way it makes me think of the situation in a different way and that is a good thing.

Thanks guys
