Don't know how I'll score on this one, I've had too many casualties to think I'll get a marginal.

Hard-fought battle, Riun. You and your multi-national forces, you must be fighting under MacArthur. [:D] He kept trying to grab USMC units, but Nimitz ensured that they would be borrowed only. You keep slogging on the southern front, and I'll tackle the Central and Northern Areas. After all, you get the liberation of the Philippines -- my Marines are targeted towards the southern approaches to Tokyo itself. [;)]

As for the unengaged enemy -- I've seen this before. If their leadership is damaged, they tend to lie doggo and do nothing. The Japanese weren't known for individual commanders to exercise any more initiative than they were authorized.

They may explain why survivors of island assaults survived up until the 1970s --no one told them that the war was over, so they kept hidden, raided locals for food and waited for the relief that would never appear, even after nearly 30 years. That still amazes me. You gotta admire their discipline. [&o]

That really makes me wonder if it was disipline or if they heard and saw enough of what happened to their forces in neiboring areas as to scare them into seclusion??

I dunno, man. Scared? No. They just sat there waiting for orders that never came. All they focused on was survival. To Western minds, it seems completely crazy, but surrender was out of the question.
