Off Brisbane, RO-68 put three fish into the PG Swan, sinking her in less than 5 minutes.

I am also pondering the information on my ships sunk report that the CL Trenton sunk this turn from the hit she took the prior day. This is believeable.

The report also shows that I sunk the Warspite when I hit her a few days ago. I doubt that, but I was unable to intercept her even after positioning several subs to catch the damaged vessel on her way to port so there might be a slim possibility.

IF , he hadn't completely repaired it in seattle then it could well have had prior system damage that exacerbated the flooding , but on balance i agree with you , doubtful sinking.

Turn 71 15 February, 1942

I lost a sub this turn. RO-60 hit an enemy mine while trying to penetrate the harbor at Pago Pago. I am glad it was not one of my better I-boats.

I did have a bit of sub action northwest of the Ellice Islands.
I-160 put 4 torpedoes and 6 shells into the 1600 ton freighter Susana, sinking her.

Later that day, the RO-64 sunk the 1600 ton freighter Mexican with two torpedoes and one shell hit in the same general area. This ship was carrying troops as the ocean was littered with bodies after the sinking.

Turn 72 16 February, 1942

I am abandoning the attempt to take Balikpapan by paradrop. During the turn, Mavis flying boats were able to evacuate some of the troops involved, but the last 14 squads of the 1st Raiding group are now surrounded and cut off. They will most likely be lost.

During the turn, the cruisers of ABDAFLOT showed up and bombarded my troops at Balikpapan.

Other than that, no other major actions during the turn.

Turn 73 17 February, 1942

No significant actions again this turn.
I did want to show a couple of shots of my ASW patrol zones. The aircraft really help in spotting the subs, and the convoys can be routed around them. I have quite a few poor quality patrol boats out hunting them, and even if they do not do anything in the attack, each encounter builds their experience. Hopefully they will be up to par by the time the American torpedoes start working.

That is because I concentrate the search arcs so that the unit in most cases can search the whole arc in the am phase and then again in the pm phase.

More free intel- I prefer to use ASW searches in the same heavy manner of concentration so anywhere there are ASW searches, they will be thick.

Turn 74 18 February, 1942

This turn, the 33rd division captured Rangoon at a cost of 361 casualties. The mixed bag of allied units defending there took 2,425 before they fled like cowards into the rice fields northwest of the city.

Banzai!!!

At Balikpapan, the last remnants of the 1st Raiding Detachment died to a man after spending two days surrounded and without supplies. The warrant officer in command led the last 191 soldiers on a glorious bayonet charge at the Dutch positions just before dawn. Their sacrifice will be remembered.

In other news, the KB is almost home and appears to have already navigated the prowling American subs.

Turn 75 19 February, 1942

Lots of ships seem to be suddenly steaming up out of the Panama off map area and there is a lot of traffic near San Diego.

I-15 expended her last torpedoes in this area on an American troop transport. She put two fish into the 8,240 ton President Hayes, sending her to the bottom. I also had two other sub attacks against destroyers in this area, but both missed.

In the southwestern corner of Australia, the Kaga and Akagi elected to strike a west bound tanker convoy near Albany. The Augustina was hit by 7 bombs and the Talang Akor was hit by 2 bombs. The AM Eland DuBois that was escorting was also hit by two bombs.

I kind of wish that things would have stayed quiet until my second relay of tankers had completed their transit south of Tasmania but I will deal with it.
I am torn between striking Perth or Melbourne with the carriers. I have sent an I-boat to scout Perth with her Glen next turn.

It would be nice if he thinks that this is the whole Kido Butai down there. The real KB arrived home this turn. Veteran replacement pilots have been assigned to the units that took losses, and all ships needing repair are having them done. I plan for the force to sail again in about a week. In the meantime, a series of military balls and galas are being held in Kure and nearby Hiroshima to celebrate the bravery of our naval aviators who just returned from striking the enemy homeland.

Turn 76 20 February, 1942

The Akagi and Kaga struck shipping off Perth this turn, sinking several small patrol vessels and three cargo ships.

Off San Diego, Traskott ad several unescorted ships sail through my picket line.
First was the AS Fulton, which was hit with 2 torpedoes. She did not go down, however.

Next came the Liner President Madison, also off San Diego, hit by one torpedo from I-25.

She also did not go down, but I believe that I have sunk or damaged every one of the President liners since game start.

I-25 struck again two more times during the afternoon. She made two attacks on the British freighter Gandara. The first attack scored with 1 torpedo. I-25 then attacked again and put two more fish into the large merchant, sinking her. I-25 is now out of torpedoes and heading back to harbor to reload.

As you can see, one of my top subs loves to hunt warships. The only non-warship was a large liner.

Your sub campaign reminds me of the German "Happy Time" when the U-Boats returned to port with a lot of fuel but no torps. Excellent work.
