The German attack Northwest of Moscow includes 4 Elite SS Panzergrenadier Divisions, 3 Panzer Divisions and 3 Motorized Divisions. There are over 20 Panzer and Motorized divisions in the area of the Panzer salient.

Stavka is concerned that if the two attacks are not stopped and the two Panzer spearheads make contact, that a huge pocket could be created in the Moscow area.
