Well the raid against Kendari met with mixed results. It is clearly the Japanese bastion in the area:

Overall the Japanese lost 80 planes in the day to my 38. We return tomorrow to try and bag more damaged one's on the ground. A gamble since my men have lowish morale and Faber may bring in more fighters.........

Good news. My heavily damaged AP surprisingly made it back to Midway. She is beginning to unload troops at 89 FLT.

My CV's have docked and will take on fuel today. Then we move to PH for a bit of R & R until CV Intrepid arrives and my airgroups are fully upgraded to F6F's and TBM's.

Niceguy - not too bad actually. I have 63 x MSW still active (over 1/2 of those in Australia. Soon to be rectified) and 5 x DMS.

I agree though the most annoying loss has been the MSW forces and the disruption to my LCU's.

BB Tennesee is leaving Midway today at 60 SYS damage. Bound for PH.

A mixed day for my submarine's today.

SS Snook fired 6 torpedo's at ML Wakatake 240 miles east of Saipan. Unfortunately they failed to detonate[:-]

SS Gudgeon found a couple of APD's inbetween Wake and Marcus Island. She heavily damaged APD-31 with a torpedo. In return the other APD dropped some well placed DC's moderately damaging my sub. She is to return to PH for repairs.

SS Capelin, patrolling 180 miles east of Batan Island, was located by a couple of MSW's. They did not fix her postion though. Shortly thereafter my sub scouted the horizon and found some tankers. She hit the empty tanker Syoyu Maru with a torpedo before sneaking away..........

SS Gato was heavily damaged by a Sally dropped bomb 240 miles SE of Okinawa. She is to return to PH for repair.

The follow up on Kendari was not as successful. 83 enemy fighters rose to meet my 143 heavies. Ny the end of the day I had lost 41 aircraft to 50 Japanese. 30 of my losses were Forts in a2a.

A small addendum. I thought Hyuga and Yamashiro had sunk after receiving a pounding from my CV air. No confirmation can be found of this from Intel. As such I only think Nagato and Musashi have sunk.........

AP. Hugh L. Scott sank at Midway taking a fair bit of the 1st USA Cav Division with her (despite there being other transports and DD's in the same TF).

CV Bunker Hill arrived at San Francisco.

An LCI arrives tomorrow.

how many AAA units at Kendari ?

No idea i'm afraid. From bomber info 4 units are at the base. These losses are from a2a though. Only 1 plane was lost to AA.

i thing fabertong could easily gather 5-6 AAA units there and make you thinking about bombing this place - he can't halt you but you will have many bombers damaged and bombing tempo would be half of current

Roger. He could do and i'd move elsewhere. The heavies at Darwin are there as a deterrent and to keep him on his toes. In short I don't want any place to be 100% immune from me within Heavy range at Darwin. I have already disrupted ALL oil production at Amboina and Sorong and 90% Resource production at Kendari, Bulla, Amboina and Sorong. Also apart from a few patrol planes at Amboina/Sorong there are no active airfields in the area, apart from Kendari.

So, what's next on the agenda, Speedy? Are you planning on sticking with the Central Pacific or are you going to move to the Solomons area?

I haven't decided yet.

There are options:

1. North Pacific - not likely due to my feint prompting Faber to turn the area into a fortress.

2. Wake/Eniwetok - still an option.

3. Tarawa/Nanomea - option.

4. Solomans - option.

5. NG - not likely due to the slow slogging process up the land mass.

6. Timor - option due to me having total air superiority.

First things first though. I'm going to get all my damaged ships to the right ports. Then we can see what I have to move my combat ready LCU's where I want them. Then we can get the shipping there etc. In the meantime my CV's are to go raiding. Not saying where on this one. I want it to be a surprise for all[;)] As I say though i'm going to wait until i'm stocked with Hellcats and I have my 4th CV TF operational - CV Bunker Hill, CV Intrepid, 2 x CVL's.

Considering that you own Canton and Baker, Tarawa currently seems to be the best option (IMHO). If he owns (?) Nanomea, even more. Controlling the Gilbert Islands will shorten your supply lines and give you some bases for attacks in all directions.

The Solomon route seems to be the most problematic route of advance if Faber has build up the airfields there because his LBA is probably still intact, thus simply let his troops rot on this malaria-ridden islands!

A mainly sub action day with IJN ASW assets trying their best but failing:

SS Whale was hunted throughout the day by 2 x DD and 3 x MSW. The DD's dropped 10's of DC's some of which landed near. Damge was slight (22 SYS). Returning to Midway.

SS Sawfish fired 4 fish at MSW w.7 60 miles NW od San Marcelino......which missed.

SS Grampus was briefly attacked by DD Makinami 180 miles SE of Hong Kong. Light damage was sutained.
