The weak sister...

I figure I have several days here & I should be able to fly in 220 AV. Given a little more time I have a choice of more Infantry Brigades or Artillery.

There is one 20cm CD gun here...I am moving a few more troops over to support it from Haha where the bulk of the unit is.

Can you place tabs on all the USMC divisions? Without at least one of those landing, I don't think he can take one at this date. Chichi-jima maybe, but what are the odds he goes for that one first? The other two look good.

I believe I know where two maybe three are. The 4th is in Indochina, and parts of another are there too.

Another is in the Marianas...

I am pretty sure I will be fighting one...plus tanks, etc (could be the one from the Marianas). He seems to plan out the invasion pretty well.

If he stays true to form....the deathstar races in with airfield attacks and one sweep to neutralize the airfields, the invasion force plods along, then the carriers move forward to protect the landings, while the invasion force splits and goes to their respective targets.

Oh, and he likes to hang around the invasion beaches for a long time.
He didn't race in and try to close the airfields with surface bombardments.

I plan on confronting the invasion, should it come with everything at my disposal.

Get the idea?[:D]

Here is Iwo Jima....

That is a crack, high experience, IJA 43 squad division. First time he will run into one on his island attacks should he come here.

Sounds like you've found a use for those SSTs you inherited!

My question is why do you have 900AV on Haha Jima? I wouldn't take that island if it had 60 AV on it! Not worth it. Move all of those to Chichi-Jima.

Here is why...General Denfence. I can buy out and move the combat engineers. I was thinking about doing it...

you could also buy Chichi-Jima and send troops there that are restricted! [:D]

Well, at the time it was something I never did before and I simply chose Haha without thinking it thru.

I bought out he combat engineers and one trip with barges will move all of them.

If he invades Haha, I am coming for you![:D]

If it is an invasion, I will probably have one or two more days before the deathstar shows up, and five or more before the invasion fleet. Emily Ls can move a tons of troops...they are so darn impressive.[:)]

I will be flying in troops, removing some from Iwo, making a few supply runs if time is willing.

Fighters in place. Subs moving on the invasion fleet. Midgets and MTBS stand ready to be activated.

The Bonins are fairly hard to protect without the KB, since it is so far from supporting airbases. Still, he should have gone for them right after the Tinian invasion as only Haha was in decent shape and I had a scarcity of ground troops.

Surely though its a good location to host tf's to run in from the midway point between the HI and the bonins? - well out of his recon, for the final sprint in?

I'm just thinking of Obvert's last few turns in his current updated AAR where a bit of patience and nous payed off, slightly different situation and location but the principal is there.

Kitchen Sink time :) (maybe)

Chris, you are stealing my strategy.

KB is going to cut behind, from Ominato area. But I will use destroyers and fast E's from Torishima. MTBs and Midgets from the Bonins themselves. And Iboats to harass the advance.

Fighter ons the small airbases, with plenty of other planes to fly into and out as needed. Once the airlift is over, Emilies on night attack from Yoko.

I doubt he will be able to land and take the islands quickly, so this will be a protracted fight.

I have found MTBs and fast Es quite useful in separating CV taskforces away from amphib groups- occasionally they retreat from a surface threat which may allow KB a clear run.

Closer to HIs, if you can scatter allied TFs there is always a chance they accidently stumble onto CD guns, mines or both which may lead to a massacre.

Good hunting :-)

Nothing he has will take Haha-jima with two divisions on it. His SIGINT probably told him those were there, and what was on the other two as well. Beef up the weak sister fast! [:D]

Thanks, everyone!

Haha and Chichi are adjacent so they qualify as a wide strait, and both have CD guns. Mines are on the way for Chichi, while Haha and Iwo are supplied with them.

So then the question is how fast can I fly in 15K troops to Chichi...I suspect pretty fast. In a few more days I get another Tabby squadron, so my airlift capability is growing by leaps and bounds (I actually will have the Tabbies to fill it out, the others converted to Emily L which I love -- well except for the SR).

This won't be like the Marianas, when I had no troops, I got all those Nov/Dec reinforcements and even if most of them are brigades they have nice TOEs that can be airlifted for the most part.

The one area I feel a little weak in is heavy artillery. I have a 28cm Howitzer unit at Daito that was scheduled to go to Iwo. I will still load them tomorrow and see if they can make it, but it is doubtful. I can however fly in several AT units and a mortar or two. Not much else around until the mountain guns make the trek back from Chungking.

I sent the turn away and I am expecting it back Saturday or Sunday when Tiemanj gets back from the sticks. Quite pleasant to have several days to work on the turn. But, of course now I am impatient to get it back.[;)]

Just because of the excitement around the Bonins, I still have to kill Allied planes, and there is no place quite like Indochina, with reasonable bases and good rail network.

Today I will try to have an easy day, but still hopefully kill some Allied planes on the ground...the hated assault bomber. After yesterday's George sweeps, I figure I may have an easy time of it here.

Then the tomorrow, I will probably sweep Port Blair and perhaps attempt a large scale night bombing run against them. The flak there can't reach to 10K, letting the bombers be very accurate.

One of those Allied squadrons is a group of 4 destroyers, the rest tiny ships that are hard to target. Subs usually let them go. I am sure after the POW debacle that the destroyers have good air CAP, and I am afraid if I strike at them it will be on the day they return to Tavoy so my escorted bombers fly right into his varsity fighters-- and a lot of them. No thanks for now.

One of the reasons I converted over the Hyuga, was that my bottleneck, slide rule, white coat, mad scientists wanted to put rockets on the ship.

This game, is of course, all about rockets. So, how could I deny them?

Even if all the evidence points to these guys being absolutely worthless, it is still fun. Although 9/44 is an eternity away, we think positively here in the Empire because we are destined to rule the Pacific.

Those same geeky scientists are even now drawing up plans for piloted torpedoes. How mad is that? Will I even get a chance to use them? [:D]
