Back from a 4 day visit with my brother's family in Maryland last night. When I got home, my desktop computer won't power up. Looks like the PS in it finally gave up the ghost. I paid $75 for the whole computer, second hand, almost 5 years ago so no repair money is going into it. Time to start deciding what I want in a new one. It's a fun process, but I've not been keeping up with new tech for a good number of years so I have lots of learning to do.

My strategy on buying new PCs is to go for the 2nd tier. Generally runs only 5% slower than the top line but comes 20% cheaper. And this time of year you might find one 50% off if you poke around....

Sadly, not an option in my case. A very old SFF box with a Dell proprietary PS and motherboard combination. Only refurbished PS's are available as replacements, and I don't want to dump any more money into this box.
