My second track from the Visitors comes next.
No.16
One of Us UK Singles chart highest position No.3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIKAe8Wi0S0
Another track with Agnetha as lead, but their voices worked so beautifully together it is sometimes difficult to tell. And its another sad story of love gone wrong.

My first Super Trouper offering is up next. On reflection worthy of the 20 but possibly at 19 or 20.
No.15
Happy New Year UK Singles chart highest position - not a single in the UK
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uo0JAUWijM
Don't get me wrong this is still a quality song but probably got its place in the 20 more for sentimental reasons. To sing about what will happen in 10 years i.e. 1989 is a bit sobering to us oldies....[:(]

The next track is the title track from The Visitors.
No.14
The Visitors (1982) UK Singles chart highest positon - not a UK single

Were ABBA getting political with this one? No one knows - the band aren't saying but it was banned in the USSR.....

ABBA The Album has four entries - and the first appears at no.13. The singles chart position is a strange one - but the reason why it probably didn't achieve No.1 is that it was only released in 1983....
No.13
Thank-you for the Music (1977) - UK Singles chart highest position No.33

I'm nothing special,
in fact I'm a bit of a bore
Er... I don't think so Agnetha [X(]

A second Super Trouper offering.
No.12
Lay all your love on me (1981) UK Singles chart highest position No.7 (12-inch)

This is the first really upbeat, dancey type number (more of those to come).

It's Super Trouper again for the next one.

Another departure for the Swedish maestros with a sort of synthpop sound. Frida takes control of the singing for this one.

I suspect that most of you are on the edge of your seats wondering what this officialist of official lists will confirm. What are the top 10 bestest ABBA songs of all time?
Well be prepared for one or two shocks. But I can confirm we have:
3 tracks from Voulez-vous
3 tracks from The Album
2 tracks from Super Trouper
1 track from The Visitors
and 1 track from the self-styled ABBA album.
I trust you can contain yourselves.....

The album Voulez Vous provides the first of the top 10.
No.10
As Good As New (1979) UK Singles chart highest position - not released as a single in the UK

This is the second track included, at least in part, for sentimental reasons. This song always takes me back to a more simple time - playing Waterloo with Airfix HO/OO figures with my big bruvver. The song is an upbeat number with a good bass line and I love the 'string' sound that starts the track off.

The next track appears on recent versions of Voulez Vous (although I don't think it was originally on that album) is another that Steve Coogan cannot spoil for me - even though hearing it invariably puts me in mind of Alan Partridge singing it!
No.9
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A man after Midnight) (1979) UK Singles chart highest position No.3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEjLoHdbVeE
Another Agnetha led song and a bouncy fast paced synth based piece of pop with another great into.

I am going to leave it there tonight as a) the Motor Racing is on and b) I want to think more about the order of the top 8. These are some of the finest pieces of pop music ever written. I pretty much know the No.1 but I'll have another listen through on my way to and from work to finalise the order.

Thanks for the memories. IT was said they were not very good musicians, however they must have had good management to put together so many hits. I wonder did they write their own songs?

As expected this is getting ridiculously hard now. Next up I am plumping for another track from ABBA The Album.....
No.8
Eagle (1978) Not released as a single in the UK
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDI7x1nwTUw
This lengthy track (ABBA's longest) is a very inspiring song and its also one of only two things I remember about ABBA The Movie. Very nicely done.

No.7

Frida takes the lead on this one. The word beautiful is used so much in connection with ABBA songs and this one is no different. Great lyrics, a wonderful track, combining nostalgia and love - oh and Paris.
