Do you have any bombers in reach of your bases? If so, they could ferry supplies (instead of using transports), and might be more resistant to fighters in the area.

Pretty much the heavy bombers at Moulmein are keeping the Aussies alive in Sumatra right now.

PI: A staff idiot at Bataan ordered some F4F's from Amazon and returned the Corsairs so we are without air cover. Clark gets pummeled. And then the LYB's attack again. Even though they achieve 1:2, the losses to IJA infantry are epic. Two of our M-10 Bn's are crushed.
