[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Troops transfer to Soerabaja and begin loading for a trip to Timor. I've got an HQa set up in Dili now so Darwin will begin to get the business as Koepang is beyond shattered already.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Another good DA above Sian. This time the 1:1 gives the Chinese a bunch of losses and only a few disablements for us. In the South I'm moving on Changteh. A shock follows and we move on North.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] The first DA. All goes well, in that we got a pounding but lowered the forts. That's all that I'm really concerned with. If each attack does that this'll be less than a month.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] In Burma our forces met a blocking force just outside of Prome. It was in good territory but hadn't built forts and looks to be low on supply. We struck first with a DA and got a 1:1 dishing out a bunch of punishment. I went for a day 2 DA right away, and got a 1:2 but even losses to both sides, which is greatly to our advantage with the larger force. We'll try again in a day or two. Nothing can get here quickly enough to save these troops.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font] I'm not focusing much here. The doors are wide open. I'll just garrison and build in the hope he goes for the Solomons.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] After one bombardment and some aerial bombing (which seemingly did little) we decided based on the low supply modifier in the last battle to try another DA near Prome. It went exceedingly well, and achieved 6,000 Allied casualties out of a reported 22k troops. Unfortunately we couldn't follow it up as the Allies retreated through the jungle to Toungoo, a move which of course would have taken them about 12-15 days usually. My tanks set to reserve followed (an even more unlikely movement) getting all of the way to Toungoo and of course being unable to retreat from there in time to avoid being obliterated. This is the kind of thing that's not well thought out in the ground game, but it does work both ways.

The move and resulting attack does show that there is a lot of extra stuff in Burma, and this doesn't include the three Brit/Indian divisions which are sitting one hex away on the road. Three Aussie brigades, all of the buyable Chinese. A huge commitment. I'm getting the feeling he's been trying to keep Burma. While that is highly unlikely, it also might mean he's committing other forces into India on the way. I wonder if the US troops are coming too?

Our commitment here will be to continue to move around the main stack and try to block retreat long enough to bring in more force. I've saved up and I'm buying the 14th division out of Manchuria with 80 experience. That's about to move from Fusan to Rangoon. Another division is leaving the Palembang area on the way. Once Luzon is finished I'll assess how much of that is needed over here. There is still the possibility of a landing in India behind his main forces, but I need to know what is there first, so recon must get closer.

I'll push as if going to Magwe now, but I really want to see what he'll do, and I need to wait for a base force to use there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] The push North moves forward. I'm amazed my supply is holding up here. After each attack we go in to the red, but after a day it catches up. I've been leaving troops in every hex we pass by in order to make sure the path is clear.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Just about ready for another DA here. The key to a successful siege seems to be patience, but timing is also important. Going in after a good bombardment yields better results in my experience.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Port Blair is under constant watch and Sallys are working the fields on a daily milk run. They happened to notice an xAKL arriving yesterday and I sent in the cavalry, with our two CL SAG doing the dirty work.

P-40s continue to sweep over our troops getting 1:1 results. Near Magwe we even got ahold of some Fulmars trying to bomb the tank unit that is out ahead. The waves came in many chunks which the LR CAP didn't always get to, and the tanks suffered heavy losses. They'll have to get back into the shelter of the trees. On the 2nd it looks like he forgets to turn off two groups and zeros nab about 15 Hudsons and Blenheims flying with no escorts.

The Brit forces make a stab in our direction near Prome, but probably realizing the time it would take to get there, he stopped the movement.

I have a few CS convoys set up from Palembang, Miri and Medan, and I'm using Balikpapan for the fleets mostly. Soon I'll go all-in and commit the big boys. There are still a lot of subs in the DEI and our DDs are only just starting upgrades to more and better equipment. Plus the air groups are just now getting trained ASW pilots. [/font]

I've got some time today, so I thought I'd try to catch up (almost) to where the game is currently.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] BBs will hit Koepang tomorrow. Then they'll reload at Ambon and hook up with the amphib TF to move in on the Tarakan gun battery there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Changteh is captured. He left only one unit of any value in the base, and the rest is already moving back to Chikhiang. We're headed that way too.

Most of the Chinese air force and two sections of the AVG jumped our bombing runs on Chikhiang. I luckily had some zeros sweeping, but mostly rookie pilots operating them. They still came out even, and probably got the bulk of the fighters up high letting many bombers get through untouched down at 6k. Out of 60+ Lilys I lost 9 planes, which is good considering the commitment he had here. I then focused everything to see what I could finish off-rail and stuck on the ground, but there were severe storms over the base and my Sallys were ineffective.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Another DA at Clark reduces the forts to 2 and gives the Allies some more serious casualties. Ours are not as bad either. Another 4-6 days and we'll go again.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] The 18th division invests Magwe and DAs against an armor brigade. Yet another unit committed here from India. We do almost nothing to the troops, but the forts are lowered to 2 and there are a bunch of negative modifiers in the report, so I'll keep it on tomorrow.

Elsewhere it looks like the Brits have moved back from the road blockade near Toungoo and into that base. They may be going into strat mode to either move into the center or bug out completely. There are about 10k troops in 7 units at Meiktila, 3.5k more at Mandalay in 3 units, and 3 more units at Shwebo. At Toungoo 110k are listed. [X(] Three supported divisions plus all of the stuff kicked off of the Prome road.

Here is a map of the situation in Burma. I'll try to close the rail as soon as I'm sure I have enough around Magwe to fight off a concerted attack if he were to commit the 100k troops at Toungoo. Two divisions and five regiments are on the way. The Thais are being used to block the Southern area at Pegu, and at Prome in case there is any movement that direction that our recon is not showing.

There is the possibility he'll just get out altogether. It'll take a while to walk to India, so at the point when I know that could be happening, maybe I'll decide whether a landing there is possible.

So far Operation Python hasn't strangled the prey, but we've certainly squeezed it enough to weaken it and prepare for the next strike.

In China the KMT has suffered horrendous losses, mainly due to a poorly prosecuted offensive early. Now the remaining units are pulling back to an inner perimeter around Chikhiang in the South. In the North Lanchow will be invested and taken soon. Then those IJA troops will move down to Sian and shock into the city from the clear side after extensive bombing.

The deep SW area is being evacuated around Kweilin, so I might move some troops down to fill the vacuum.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] The Allied subs continue to take their toll. A supply carrying xAK is hit by S-39 near Phuket. A DMS was also lost in a big convoy carrying another division to Rangoon. The Sculpin hits an xAK near Iba.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Koepang is reinforced and it looks like we brought enough to do the job. No ships were lost this time due to strong BB support. The troops are a bit disrupted, not being fully prepped, so will need a few days to settle.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] The first combat at Lanchow gets a 2:1 but doesn't take the base, lowering the forts to 2. On the 11th after supply comes in we go again and take the base, ruining the remaining Chinese troops up here. Now much of this force will move back to go for Sian. A few tank rgts and engineer units will stay to garrison and harry the retreated Chinese.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Bombardments continue to go well at Clark, continually lowering Allied forces here. On the 11th we DA again and lower forts to 1. Our losses are still high, but all is on schedule for taking the base once forts go to 0. After that happens I'll bombard for a good while and try to build a 2:1 AV advantage to force a retreat.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Unfortunately Torsten forgot about our 50% moonlight restriciton on night bombing, and several small Blenheim groups in 25-10% moonlight took out 14 oil points at Magwe! [:@] I know I won't hold this long intact, but it's frustrating to see that and know night bombing is still probably over-powerful. Lilys hit Meiktila to slow Allied troops and see what is still there. Mostly smaller once-defeated units, probably trying to bug-out. The 18th division has now moved in and the rail is effectively cut. It will attack once supply catches up.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]WEST OZ:[/font] After the drop of troops at Exmouth the fast transport hit Port Hedland sinking a few minor Dutch ships and injuring AG Canopus in port. Jakes pile on later and drop a mini-bomb on it as well.

Nells finished off the Tautog at Darwin in a port strike, and another Wirraway or two were hit by the Sallys there.

Since Timor is ours, all Dutch units having surrendered, this group of what will be about 450-500 AV when healed up, will prep for NW OZ.

I've sent three Thai divisions up the road to take Akyab, which looks to be currently only weakly held. I'm considering a few paradrops into the hills of India, as well as marching through the jungles to Kalemyo. I'd like to keep his attention focused on the front close to Burma in case I do decide to land at Chittagong, Diamond Harbor or Vizagapatnam later. Still just a pipe dream, but might as well keep it on the table.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] The mop-up continues on Sumatra as more Dutch units are pushed around, but not forced to surrender yet. Nells from Dili keep Darwin closed and hit some Wirraways there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Torsten sent a 2 gun remnant of a shattered Chinese unit across into my troops on their way to Chikhiang. This did two things. One, it stopped our movement. Two, it gave perfect recon of the troops I'm sending. Not too excited about this kind of move, but it can be used the other way eventually as well, if needed. I'll start the armies walking again and should be in Chikhiang in three days.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Bombardment continues to go well. The Allies lose about 25-30 AV per day. It's pretty boring everywhere now as units rebuild for an OZ invasion and the rest wait for the final liquidation of Luzon to move toward any further objective.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font] One Kittyhawk is damaged on the fields at Port Moresby. I will try to give this sporadic bombing.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] A single ship resupply is interrupted by 4 IJN DDs at Port Blair. I've been bombing the fields continuously. There are 4 units here, including some CD guns from Medan. I'll starve them a bit more before trying it out. No hurry.

Allied units continue their retreat up into the Northern Burma area and look to be on their way to India. I won't try anything past Katha in order to encourage a fortification and garrison up there, just in case I do find the force and initiative to move into India proper.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font] Subs are still menacing most areas of the DEI and the route to Burma, but still not hitting much. No losses these days.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Big air raids go in over Chikhiang to prepare for the troops crossing in. The fields are hit hard but the troops seem well protected, which was found to be due to the level 4 forts encountered on the 20th as the IJA divisions poured over the river. Our shock attack was repulsed violently, and the troops suffered, but they to a foothold at least.

There were 250 infantry squads destroyed and 1350 disabled. That'll give him a few weeks to reinforce. I had hoped for better, but also prepared for worse. The two shattered divisions are going to move back across the river and rest. The others will hang out until they recover and more troops arrive to try to work on the forts, hopefully.

Near Sian the three divisions and tanks from up the North road move back across from the city. They'll prepare to move across now in what should be a better result in the clear.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] The turns are a bit boring right now as troops recover and operations are on hold waiting for the big armies to finish things off on Luzon.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Our HR for altitude is interesting. With sweeps only limited to 2nd best maneuver band there is little ability to get altitude advantage over CAP. In China little CAF bi-planes were seen at 31k going into free-falling spins as pilots blacked out from a lack of oxygen! [:D]

Torsten got the Chinese air force involved for the first time in a big way, and the Japanese dealt fairly well with the new threat. A sweep of Oscars hit Chikhiang first getting about 3:1 against the Chinese augmented by the AVG 2nd and 3rd Sqn. Unfortunately the 30 Oscars escorting the next bombing raids chose to protect 15 Lilys in a later strike rather than the main body of 140 bombers. Still only a few Sallys and Lilys are lost, and several US planes are destroyed on the ground.

The Allies were protecting the base today in order to try a shock against the just crossed and disrupted IJA, but that didn't turn out well for them. Over 300 Chinese squads were destroyed and another 600+ disabled. If only we had reserves here to move in a push onward! Alas, most of the IJA is tied up around Sian, and this army will simply have to wait for recovery and later reinforcements, but at least the bridgehead is secure.

Raids on the next few days take a few more planes on the ground here.

At Sian a feint is launched across the river toward the city. The intention is to draw some of the defenders in the woods out of the fortifications back into the city so I could try for a breakthrough there.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Bombardments keep taking a bunch of squads off of the Allies in Clark. Nearly ready for a DA now.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font] Occasional resistance from Kittyhawks at Port Moresby is met by zero sweeps that have controlled the skies so far. No sign of US fighters yet.

Clark Field Falls!

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] The big news of the day is that Clark finally collapses. This is a few weeks later than I would have liked, but that extra time shouldn't make much of a difference. Now comes the push to Bataan and the final surrender of the Allies here in a few days.

After this is finished I need to get on Western OZ, possibly Port Moresby, Port Blair for sure, and I'll even consider landing on India sine I've not done this before and a good portion of the Brits are out of position in the border area of Northern Burma. A lot of recon and prep would be needed for this kind of a move, including getting most of the air forces out of China and into Burma.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Some Allied planes are still repairing at Chikhiang, and are hit on the ground by IJAAF bombers.

The deception at Sian is on. It looks lie he's taken the bait and is moving some units back into the base. I'll have to see how many in a few days. In the meantime the troops are getting ruined there by bombing runs.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Allied bomber launch big night raids on Magwe that come in very fragmented and don't hit much, but do enough to take another 23 oil points off the base. In the meantime it's simply putting fighters up in the hope it'll throw off their aim.

This game is moving along fairly regularly, I just haven't had time to finish more reports.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] The pesky Dutch are still around on Sumatra. A Brigade is chasing them down and got a good number today. Dot bases and unoccupied bases are being cleaned up as well.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] A single I-15 came up at Chikhiang. These must be planes sitting in base and repairing. I can't imagine he's using one plane to CAP when he knows there are 30-40 Oscars on their way. At Sian air strikes take out near 2k troops over two days. We should storm over the river in a day or two.

Troops behind our lines are causing some disruption near Changsha and are nearly surrounded. Once these are gone a minimal force will move on kweilin which has only a base force now.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Amphib TFs are moving in to get ready to pick up the armies here finishing off the Allied remnants.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Hit another single ship supply run to Port Blair. Soon he's going to be out of low value xAKLs over here. [:D]

Massive night raids hit Magwe again but found the Tainan group on CAP. They distract but don't stop the bombing. A few more oil hits.

British troops are still moving into the jungles of NW Burma back into India. I am marching the Thais to Akyab where I'll consider landing an army to take Bengal. We'll see. Depends on timing, getting everything over there. he's got a lot at Chittagong, but the majority of his best troops might be bush-whacking for over a month. I'm sending more troops through the jungles to Dimapur and Imphal, and I have paras prepping for some bases up there as well.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font] Manado is invested and will take a while to wear down. This clean-up in the DEI is my least favorite portion of playing this side.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Troops cross into Sian on the 1st. Massive losses leave them hanging onto the bridgehead by a thread. The fatigue and disruption would have left us unable to hold position if he had coutner-attacked, I imagine, but then I don't know how badly his were affected by the battle hand the relentless bombing campaign. He was probably reluctant to do this also after the results at Chikhiang earlier when he counter-attacked after another big crossing. After two days our forces are now coming back to normal levels and should have forts within a day or two, which will make them hard to push.

This is the door to Sian I needed to open. NowI can slowly wear it down, work on supply, and eventually take this base. I don't have plans to conquer all of China this time, but I'd lie to get the North secured and then move into the mountain areas toward Burma.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PI: [/font] Bataan falls!!! This campaign will now move to the islands where I still have some outposts to neutralize. The divisions will begin looking toward India.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font] Betties hit Port Moresby for several days with no opposition.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] Major sweeps came into Magwe on the 1st, getting almost a 2:1 rest as they wore the Cap of Oscars down. Bombers then acme in and hit the zero group that had been up at night, crushing 12 planes on the ground. A bad day here. I'm about to activate Mandalay as a major air base, so this will help get more CAP up.

On the 2nd he went for major night raids on the airfields, hitting a few more planes on the ground. The day CAP takes care of some small sweeping groups, probably a feeler to see how I would react. Well played, but I like the fact he's being aggressive. Once I have a larger force here, I feel like we can defend these strikes well, plus it's just a more interesting game. The Allies should be dangerous here.

On the 3rd the night strikes tackle the oil again, getting a few more hits on it.

Since he moved a few divisions forward into Burma, and is now trying to extricate them through the jungles, it's possible that there is a short window to hit Bengal through Chittagong. It's a theory I'm working toward now, but it's by no means a plan.

I'm starting some prep and moving Thai units to take Akyab. Then I'll think about whether I can wrest control of the air battles, and if the US CVs are nearby. There are many good reasons to do this, but lots of difficulties in making sure it's not a fiasco starting this late in the game. I figure I have two weeks max to take Akyab and get troops landed there walking to Chittagong, and so I need a lot of air support moving into the area plus a bunch of the bombers from China, which should be fine.

It's getting fun, anyway. A few days ago (this AAR is about 10 days behind) Torsten showed all of the Brit CVs and at least 1-2 of the US ones near the Andamans. Everything is on alert right now. [;)] If i locate the other US CVs, I don't think I can risk it with the small KB.

That is pretty dangerous this late. Do you know where the 2 OZ divisions are? And the 18th UK? They are pretty formidable. If he has done things right he should have at least 4-5 fully combatworthy Indian divisions ready by now too with upgraded 42 squads.

If you try this you must make absolutely sure you can keep naval and air supremacy and keep your retreat open. There is a risk he could have 2-3000 AV on your beachhead pretty fast. You know I´m a bit cautious but going into India in June is I think 2-3 month too late.
