Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the jungle...'Scientists discover six new coronaviruses in bats' https://phys.org/news/2020-04-scientist ... ruses.html

Deleted - misread the original post intention that it was about different viruses in the same family, not different versions of the same virus.

It's not funny. Gators are protected. It's a felony to poison one.

I agree it's not funny. I hope the man who was eaten, and gave the Alligator the virus, feels the full force of the law upon him soon. He needs to be taught a lesson so he won't do it again [:-]

Starving, angry and cannibalistic: America's rats are getting desperate amid coronavirus pandemic
14 hrs ago

https://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/new ... li=BBnbcA0

"As millions of Americans shelter indoors to combat the deadly virus, which has claimed over 21,000 U.S. lives, many businesses — including restaurants and grocery stores — have closed or limited operations, cutting off many rodents' main sources for food. On deserted streets across the country, rats are in dire survival mode, experts say."

Feed them cornmeal - mixed with powdered cement! [X(]

Ahh - American brick-rats - you heard it here first! PETA is soooo gunna have a fit with you, Joe. Just saying... [:D][:D][:D]

I learned that from my step-grandfather. It works.

Dec 6: Wife of Wuhan wet market case number 1 become ill with pneumonia. She has no direct exposure to Wuhan market. Wuhan doctors begin to grow suspicious.

Dec 21: Wuhan doctors detect a cluster of pneumonias with unknown cause.

Dec 25: Two hospital workers become ill with the same symptoms and are quarantined. Why were they quarantined? Because any idiot can see it is probably transmissible from person to person.

late Dec 2019: huge upswing in cases in Wuhan

By Dec 25 (and probably earlier), Chinese authorities had to know there was human transmission...yet they lied to the WHO..saying it wasn't. Then on Jan 23rd they close down Wuhan but everyone getting on the last train is wearing masks. Clearly the LOCALS already knew and they were getting out. Some were getting out of China altogether. Some were escaping to other parts of China.

https://www.nationalreview.com/the-morn ... ting-lies/

Peak flights Jan 26, 1 million passengers

https://www.statista.com/statistics/109 ... -outbreak/

430,000 traveled form China to US before the ban was emplaced and after Corona virus was detected.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/04/us/c ... tions.html
Not sure how to interpret this, but another explanation comes to mind.
1. A lot of Chinese wear masks all the time-for the pollution.
2. During the Chinese New Year, almost everyone goes to visit their family, wherever in the world they happen to be.
3. The Chinese also consider it their duty at least once in their lifetime to visit the gravesites of ancestors interred abroad. The Chinese populations in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Cuba (and probably more countries) largely stem from the Chinese workers brought in to build railroads in the mid to late 1800s. Many died during this employment and their graves are all along the routes they worked. That would bring a lot of Chinese visitors to the countries involved.

So all this stuff about a mass bug-out from Wuhan has to be tempered with what normal travel would be. Was the last train from Wuhan crowded because of fear of the virus or just people wanting to get out to visit family like they had planned? I can't tell from the reporting so far which seemed to be the reporters' impressions rather than actual survey of the people in a statistically significant way.

Wisconsin doctor and husband killed execution-style by daughter's boyfriend, prosecutors say

Updated on: April 8, 2020 / 7:37 AM / CBS/AP

Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a teenager with fatally shooting a University of Wisconsin physician and her husband, who were the parents of his girlfriend, and leaving their bodies at the school's arboretum. Khari Sanford, 18, was charged with two counts of party to the crime of first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon.

A friend of Potter's told investigators that the couple had moved their daughter and Sanford out of their house and into a rental home because they were not following social distancing rules amid the coronavirus outbreak. Potter's supervisor at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics said Potter's medication put her at greater risk of infection and that she needed social distancing.

On a happier note

"A 99-year-old army veteran who has raised more than £3m to help the NHS in the fight against Covid-19 has vowed to keep going even though he has smashed his original £1,000 target.

Tom Moore aimed to complete 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by Thursday, walking with the aid of a frame."

Novel coronavirus attacks and destroys T cells, just like HIV
Apr 13 2020

https://www.news-medical.net/news/20200 ... e-HIV.aspx

"Now, a team from the United States and China revealed evidence that the coronavirus disease, caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), attacks the immune system’s T lymphocytes. The worrying findings highlight the destructive power of the novel coronavirus, which can destroy the immune system, leaving the patient unable to fight off the infection."

Ask me if I care what PETA thinks. [>:]

If the rats start eating other rats, that is fine as well.

Or, make a rat trap. A large drum with a stick that the rats can climb onto to try and get some food in the middle. The stick is slippery at the end and their weight causes it to dip and the rats fall into the drum. If the drum is full of water, the rats drown. If the drum is not full of water, take the rats to a place with a Herpetology exhibit, alligators/crocodiles, other large carnivorus animals and that would be free food for the animals.

Rat problem?

Just give it a little time....

During the Siege of Vicksburg rats were considered "good eating".

Rats to you: At this place, it's a menu, not an insult
CANTON, China -- Rats are all over the "Jia Lu" Restaurant. Rats in the kitchen. Rats on diners' plates. Rats between their chopsticks.

There's braised rat meat with roast pork and garlic. There's rat in black bean sauce. There's crispy fried rat. There's stewed rat.
