Is that some sort of launch strapped to the deck of that CVL? an odd place to place one - unless they thought she would not be safe in her normal home during the storm. Anyone know?

If you're referring to that bulge on the side of the stack, I doubt it. You can see ductwork leading to it.

No, he is referring to the first picture showing the deck of the CVL. It does appear to be a boat. The Captain's Gig must be kept safe! And if they need to launch it, the drop to the water looks pretty short!

Yesterday I saw a male Purple Finch. It has been years since I've seen any Purple Finches here.

Unless I see a crest pop up, I just assume it's a house finch, of which there are plenty around. I don't think I've ever positively identified a purple, but sometimes I wondered.

Cassin's Finch, House Finch, or Purple Finch.

They are difficult to tell apart within their ranges.
The intensity of the purple and the color of the wing bars can help. And the crest.
