Ok it has begun. It looks like Amami is the target - but it could be
a feint so we're still awaiting enemy landings. Can't show our cards yet
so we sent in the kamikaze. Despite large numbers broke through it was
impossible to score hits. Still, we're lowering enemy AA ammo which is also
important at this early stage. Know this from earlier experience.

The Fleet and Air Force has been put on full alert and the next turns will
be decisive.

Not really looking forward to it because I don't have many effective weapons
against Uber CAPs. I can use hundreds of transports to empty enemy TFs ammo, but
don't want to this. Stock handles small and medium scale combat much better
than large scale battles.

If the target is Amami we have to fight offensively in a turn or two.
If Andy bypasses we have our Shindens which may give us an advantage.
I'd still prefer him to land at Amami though...gives us more time to prepare defenses
in the Home Islands.

Luzon is on the border between 2 weather zones.
Hex line below Aparri is almost always clear or overcast - from Aparri and up
it's t-storms almost every day.

This means enemy 4E and sweep fighters fly almost every turn.

It has begun!

A few details:

Got ca 15 subs loaded with mines. Provided only aggressive sub captains, was hardly a competent
man in command there. As soon as the enemy invasion beaches is located the subs can try to place their mines
and attempt a few attacks.

Some 25 patrol and minesweepers have been readied as aux support vessels for the Navys surface fleet and transports.
Large number of barges will be used to reinforce the invasion beach, ignoring losses.
Enemy ships will expend lots of ammo to stop them. This seems to be the one thing we can drain the enemy for [8|]

Our air transport fleet will also be alerted and should be able to bring in ca 500 AV before the transports are depleted.
A maximum of maybe 750-1000 AV could then be brought in to any endangered base. Already 1500 AV at Amamai and the HQ there
has 100% prep points. It will take a tremendous effort to break this nut, but I'm sure Andy has the tools to make it if he
really wants to.

The Taiho is capable of 28 knots and will be held back - she can create a stir among the enemy fleets.
I'm dividing the rest of the surface fleet into a battle group with 3 battleships and the remaining operational destroyers.
The most effective TF left to us will be the 3 heavy and 3 light cruisers that will form a fast cruiser striking force.
A last long lance charge at the end of the line?

If we can disperse the enemy our air force can maybe inflict enough damage on enemy naval assets that another follow up
invasion will be delayed and reduced in strength.

I am not sure how using up his AA ammo is going to help if he is going for Ammani. You are not going to be able to follow up very well since that island will be out of range of most of your Shindens. Instead, he will invade, pull back his fleet to reload, and then come back later to invade the home islands. Your big hope, obviously, is to keep Amami suppressed as long as possible once he takes it. Question is, do you have the bombers/fighters to be able to do that?

That Kami rate is Horrible! Does anyone know if this will be addressed in AE? The Divine Wind has become the Divine Fart!

not so bloody A2A model will provide more kamikaze hits. That is what i have been told.

Ok, the enemy has gone ashore at Amami!
Huge armadas of surface ships, LBA and CAG supports the invasion.
241 000 troops have landed - not counting the casualties - 10k in landing and another 15k in the first assault!-)

Enemy only got a 0-1 odds, but with so many troops we're severely out numbered and can not afford such costly
casualties (12k today) for a prolonged time.

It will be difficult to get rid of these pests, maybe impossible.
Will get back to our defensive plans later.

Invasion!!

Hmm, given that it'll take him 3 days to recover disruption and be ready to attack again could you not:
 
a) fly in more troops,
b) set a couple of Army HQs to prep for the invaded base --- this might help your modifiers.
 
It is a surprise that he lands there but it is also good as it gives you additional weeks and, hopefully, months to prep for the invasion of the Home Islands. One thing though, be prepared to lose a lot to hold this base IF you can since if you CAN hold this base there won't be any invasion of the Home Islands, his forces will be wrecked.

Pay atention on ranges from amami to home island bases . They will be in range of every type of allied planes .

If it isn't big job can you tell me how much INF divisions and brigades you have in HI bases ?

I know Nemo, we have to hit the enemy hard on the beaches!
Despite bad weather, enemy superiority and difficulties in launching combined strikes I've released almost
the entire arsenal.

If we can blunt Andy here he will sail back to his cave and never come back!

The advantages:

*)ALL enemy targets within range will be acceptable targets.
*)Only a few LBA fighters at Ishieak, so almost all his losses will be CAG.

A multitude of sweeps, surface combat groups, subs and carrier reactions could weaken enemy CAP
enough over Amami to allow our LBA to get at the TF - and woe to them then.

I've trained my LBA back into pretty ok shape, but this will be the last time I have time and resources
to do it. From now on more and more units will turn kamikaze after being trained to mediocre levels.
Also have hundreds of high exp Sonias and other useless ac that will be turned into kamis and released
at enemy vans and cripples.

Bypassing the Okinawas is very dangerous! Andy needs a lot of B29s to keep Amami suppressed and support
the invasion force. He can't possible have enough to also close both Kadina and Naha. These are extremely
tough and well protected bases and now I'm moving in hundreds of trained Shindens and place some ships there.
If Andy turns his CAGs on naval attack they will find a lot of 'hot' targets.

Worst case scenario:
If Andy captures Amami we must attrit his LCU so much that it will take several months to get them back into shape.
Since Amami is only a size 4 AF he will have to keep mostly fighters here. This means that we must withdraw much
of our heavy CAP out of Kyushu which will lay western Japan open to complete devastation from the air.

I am aware of this Milman, but a size 4 AF can only hold so many ac and since he needs a big CAP it will only be
room for ca 1-150 medium bombers at most. The number of divisions in the Home Islands doesn't matter so much because
they wary in size and exp from the big Guards and Imp divisions to semi built Home Guard divisions. In all we have
ca 30k assault points on the Home Islands including Okinawas and Iwo Jima. It will however be difficult to strip more
than 8-10k for any given invasion area - but this should be sufficient I hope.

About troops in HI . MAybe you should put 15k in east , 10k in cetral , and 5k in north bases of HI . That way you can react fast on every atempt .

Now this is going to be the real thing!

With him bypassing Okinawa and Formosa you might consider to shift some of the defenders there to Amami or the HIs.
Did you consider some night bomber attacks - even if they might score just a few hits it might make him divert some of his CAP.

I am not sure I like that you moved the Taiho so close to the landing beach - I might have moved her somewhere to the Matsuyama area to
a) get some land-based Shindens as LRCAP,
b) have some of his carriers react away from the landing beaches,
c) get them in the escort range of your fighters and in the range of more of your small and medium bombers (if his carriers react).
Well, now it is to late and it involved plenty of if's anyway [8|]

Weather is notoriously bad in this region - almost rain and t-storms everyday.
What I did notice for tomorrow was that Luzon had 'rain' as forecast as well. This may
ground enemy LBA!

I have crack Emily and some Frances bombers on night attack - they got canceled yesterday
because of....bad weather.

Last time I moved the Taiho in to force a reaction the enemy didn't even notice them!!
Andy only puts his search planes on 1-2 or 3 hexes range. Don't think he dares to turn on naval
attacks because they will most likely hit targets under a heavy Shinden CAP! There certainly are
plenty of these decoys around.

I also ordered the Taiho to move north of the invasion beaches and put 40% of Shindens in the bases
nearby on escort missions. Anything that moves into the kill zone will get a tough ride.

Impossible to control such a show, just have to line up the troops and pray.
Odds are stacked heavily against us - I'm expecting heavy losses but there is nothing else to do.

I think there is something like 7k AV just in Kyushu area Milman and another 3.5k on Shikoku.

BTW might you consider just basing the kami Sonias at Okinawa etc so that they ONLY expend themselves on cripples making for the Phillipines. Also have you committed ALL of your kamis on Day 1? Wouldn't it make more sense to just weaken the CAP on Day 1 and expend your kamis on Day 2 after the CAP has already been significantly worn down.
 
Lastly, why not transfer the floatplanes off those CAs and BBs so that you can keep those floatplane units in action after the ships go down. I routinely do this when sending ships to their doom.

Kamikazes were mostly high altitude and I had hoped to smash a cv before the main attacks.
Now I have cleared the runways and made room for our LBA instead. Trying not to over stack too much!

Floatplanes on BBs are Rufes - they will go down with the ships but can shoot down another torpedo bomber
that may have caused damaged.
