The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced it is planning to purchase the Korean Air Defense System (M-SAM), a deal that may reach $3.5 billion.
UAE’s ministry of defense tweeted that the system will qualitatively improve the country’s air defense’s capabilities.
Negotiations at Advanced Stage
Speaking about the potential purchase, the CEO of the UAE’s defense and security acquisitions authority revealed to Gulf Today that negotiations with Korean representatives have reached “very advanced stages,” adding that a final agreement is close.
He said, “the two sides agreed to develop the system according to the operational requirements of the Air Force and Air Defence of the UAE.”
Meanwhile, the Gulf state is on a spree to buy a range of weapons from across the world. At the year’s beginning the country penned a $23 billion deal with the US which includes 50 F-35s and up to 18 MQ-9 Reaper drones. At the Dubai Air Show this week, the chief of a Russian defense conglomerate revealed that the country has shown interest in the Russian fifth-generation Checkmate aircraft.
M-SAM Block II
The M-SAM block II is a self-propelled medium-range surface-to-air missile system. The Republic of Korea Air Force received the first of a planned seven batteries system in November last year. Each M-SAM battery consists of four-wheeled Transporter, Erector, and Launchers, a multifunction radar, and Command and Control center.
The LIG Nex1-manufactured system uses the hit-to-kill missile with a range of 40 kilometers (25 miles) and speed of 5 Mach. It can intercept aircraft and missiles at an altitude of 20 kilometers (12.4 miles).

Considering that Command Chains of war had something dealing with this and considering what our key conventional strategic weapon (ie our aircraft carriers) will face...worth a read:

Chile negotiates three Boeing E-3D Sentry with Great Britain
The Chilean Air Force has been managing since September 2021 the purchase of three Boeing E-3D Sentry (called Sentry AEW 1 in Great Britain) of the seven that the Royal Air Force operated between 1991 and August 2021 (although one copy remained operational at least until October). One of the planes would be to use as spare parts.
The information was released by the journalist George Allison (
https://twitter.com/geoallison/status/1 ... 1127283712) and later confirmed by Chilean sources, who indicated that at the end of 2021 FACH personnel traveled to Great Britain to initiate the aircraft transfer process. In addition, since September 2021 from Great Britain the FACH's interest in these aircraft had been reported.
The E-3Ds are sought to replace the modified Boeing 707 in Israel for early warning in the 1980s, which is at the end of its operational life and would significantly expand the capacity of the FACH for this type of mission, as there are two aircraft instead of one, with more modern engines and avionics, much more sophisticated radar and systems, and the ability to refuel in flight.
Of the seven RAF E-3Ds, one was scrapped, one was sold to the US Navy and the others are held in depot at RAF Waddington.
The aircraft selected by the FACH would be those registered ZH 101 (c/n 24109/993, baptized "Doc", operational until at least October 2021), ZH 103 (c/n 24111/1004, baptized "Happy", given decommissioned September 2021) and ZH 106 (c/n 24114/1011, christened "Grumpy", decommissioned September 2021).

Some notes on this recent video about the current situation, with interesting points:
- VAW-126 Seahawks are now equipped with updated E-2D inflight refuelling capables. Important if are deployed over the Black Sea from the Med.
- Cavour is clearly equipped yet with AV-B+ and showed in flight and on deck against other sources (perhaps propaganda), F-35B in Cavour cames only from 2024.
- USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20) is present in the first images, but not listed in any source.

Looks like the F-35C that crashed in the South China Sea has been recovered.

What makes the “Seahawks” special is that they are able to do aerial refueling, the first E-2D squadron to do so, Cline said.
That refueling means the planes can go for much longer, up to 10 hours instead of five.
My god, ten hours in an E-2D.

Analysis of ATGM vs tank. At 25 minutes, a short comment on the high usage of ordinance. Very aligned with the CMO forum discussions on missile attrition battles.

Interesting and long article on the inmediate future Carrier Air Wing and the Fighter Gap (to be closed in 2025). Some highlights: EA-18G number currently increased to 7x, current Air Wing only 12xFA-18E+10xFA-18E+12xFA-18E+10xFA-18E(Or F-35C), pretended for the inmediate future this year 12xFA-18E+10xFA-18E+12xFA-18E+14xF-35C, and from 2025 added 5xMQ-25A.
