Some of the less known pieces by ABBA. The lyrics were wonderful (when I was a kid and I didn't know English I thought that "Fernando" was a love song [:D])

The Visitors (this is quite scary: who are "The Visitors?" Agent of the Government? Man in Black? Aliens? The dude is simply losing his mind?)

Please see post 4523 -
The Visitors made it to No.14 in the official, all-time officially officialist top 20 of ABBA toons - and that's official [:)]
Two for the Price of One didn't make it into the 20, but its a good, fun little toon.

The Visitors, according to what Bjorn, the text writer, said in '94, that the lyrics was about dissidents in the Soviet Union. He said:
I tried to imagine what it must be like to sit there and wait on that ominous knock on the door, never knowing when it would come and never be sure of anything. Quote auto translated from Swedish.

That was my main impression, too, when I was younger (even if I thought about a generic country run by an oppressive government - or maybe "1984"). However, I liked my other ideas, too... I mean: aliens and MIB [:D]
Edit: BTW, talking of aliens, listening again to this song made me think about the Fourth Kind - a flawed but scary movie with a new and interesting angle about "alien abductions".

One could say that you were sort of right right, as a child, about Fernando. Fernando was originally made with Swedish lyrics and released for a Frida alone album (not a ABBA album).
The original, Frida, version, is somewhat different from the ABBA version and well worth listening to. In my humble opinion, that is. And check the different theme in the Swedish version. In the original, Swedish version, the narrator tries to console the heartbroken Fernando, who has lost his great love.
Frida (ABBA) : Fernando (Swedish with English Translation)

Play, play the melody and sing
Sing of Happiness
Long, long live love
That love, Fernando
Long, long live love
That love, Fernando

Thanks for the hint. I didn't know about it!
I guess, since there is no direct mention in the English lyrics, that the song became about two veterans of the war between the US and Mexico - these, at least, were the hints.
I also always wondered if the guy is reminiscing with an old Fernando near him, or if his companion in arms actually died and the singer "speaks" with him in his old age.
I didn't know about the original lyrics (thanks again!), but when I discovered the real meaning of the English version I felt a tear in my eye. Very unexpected and moving.

Jim Croce, sadly died in a plane crash aged only 30 (1943-1973). A genuine talent that is not forgotten.

After both my main computer and my car gave up the soul, my eldest daughter flunked another test (guess who is paying for the Fashion School), and my wife broke her kneecap while struggling to move a heavy statue (the statue won) - all of the above in the space of three days, I can only listen to this:
