Who? Are we talking about the Boys on the board?

It's been interesting folks. But since warspite1 is the better poker player I must stop for the night. Mrs. Steiner and I have to catch a plane to San Francisco.

See ya tomorrow.

Oh, warspite, I would advise against breathing overnight.

That only occurs with men who prance around a field wearing shorts tossing their flowing hair![:D]

Will we be able to pick the individual soldiers for our units from a base of, oh, say 200,000 - 300,000 soldiers?

Maybe Parusski could start researching these men instead of wasting time in S.F.

On another front, I have several hundred CRTs and capacitors I removed from my computer (similar to your new one). I'm not sure where they go anymore. Mine still works fine (it flickers on and off occasionally), but has a hard time with math.

If you need them let me know.

Yes, see previous posts. This will be an individual soldier scale game. I personally know Mr Brown who, as you know, has Paddington Bear lodging with him. This is great, because he has put me in touch with Paddington (who comes from darkest Peru) and has compiled a list of every Peruvian citizen that was available for call up in the Peruvian armed forces between 1800-1820. I have done the same for the British Empire, so I need some volunteers for the Prussian, French, Russian, Spanish, Americans and Austrians.

Its a big job, but I think you will agree, it will be worth it. The way it will work is this:

At the start of the game the forces for the British and Peruvians are known. But thereafter, you can add to the army / navy as you think fit - providing your economy can stand it!! For example, in my current Beta test, I wanted to beef up the Peruvian 12th Army. I searched through every Peruvian town/village and conscripted an extra 20,000 young Peruvians.

The computer then went through a series of "admin" procedures to work through the effect of this policy. What happened? Well its an eye-opener I can tell you. Firstly, there were insufficient uniforms for the troops. This meant the Paddington clothing company had to hire more clothes makers and order more cloth; there was simply insufficient to go around. Instead, the troops of 12th Army were issued with the Peruvian national football kit.

There were insufficient rifles for the extra troops meaning that - as a short term measure - the Paddington Bear Ammunitions Company issued the army with a quick, simple and cheap alternative. They called it the Panzerfausto.

But all of these problems were knocked into a cocked hat by the biggest problem of all. Because of the lack of Peruvian infrastructure at the time, the size of the country and the disparate nature of the urban centres, it took these extra recruits an eternity to get from their villages to the main army depot in downtown Lima (the computer works out a route for every individual soldier). By the time all 20,000 reached Lima, were equipped and trained, it was 1822 and the war had been over for two years.....

You were meant to infer nothing - I was just explaining my earlier comment. Now if you want some money from this project may I respectfully suggest you look at the post above and volunteer to do the US OOB for me please?

That would be good - I have absolutely no idea what CRT's and Capacitors are, but you sound like you know what you are talking about. If you could ship them over and I'll ask HAL whether he can use them.

I am sad to have to report stories of their actual arrival in 1822 were just government propaganda. By an extraordinary coincidence it seems they have in fact arrived only today after being stuck in traffic, having exchanged their uniforms and weapons for bicycles.

Wow Hertston!!! Thanks for the input. Two conclusions come from this:

a) The computer Steiner lent me is waaaaay off beam here. HAL definitely computes their arrival in 1822 [:(]. I will have to look at the data. I wonder if the stupid computer was using modern day maps - not those that existed in 1800?

b) I have cross referenced Octavio Zegarro with the Peruvian census of 1798 and have an identical match - he is a goat herder, originally from Puerto Maldonado - and was sixteen in 1800. That makes him 228 years old. Wow they breed them tough in Peru!

One further issue I have, is with increasing the size of the Peruvian Army, and how to get appropriately experienced officers to command said "what if" forces.

Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, a Peruvian national hero thanks to his exploits in the War of The Pacific, was born in 1816 and so is out of scope for the G7YPBW. However, Hal is trying to convince me that he had an elder brother, named Spaghetti, who was tragically killed in 1797 in a freak shaving accident. HAL believes that in a "what if" scenario, I should use the elder Bolognesi and give him a Command Rating of 78.

Neither Paddington Bear nor I can find any trace of Spaghetti Bolognesi in the Peruvian archives. Can anybody provide further evidence that may shed light on this?

No, the spelling is correct. Your childish reference to Spag Bol does you know credit Yogi - I thought you were better than that

I am looking for the elder brother of the peruvian war hero Francisco Bolognesi. This is a serious matter [:-]

No - this is waaay tooo early. From the look of the weapons being fired and the uniforms worn, this scene must be from the Peruvo-Chilean war of 1248. The elder Bolognesi - if he existed - would have been in the Peruvian army in the late 18th century.....
