No one can argue against Lewis being an extraordinary driver. For him to go through the field like he did is astonishing, if you ask me, or maybe that is commonplace? I am unsure as I took a break from watching F1 for several years and returned in 2012.

I'm pulling for the German guy, though. :)

Ranking drivers in F1 is notoriously difficult. If people did not realise this before 1986, they soon did....

In that year Nelson Piquet was teamed with Nigel Mansell. There was only one outcome. Piquet, then double world champion and widely acknowledged as the fastest man on the planet vs a journeyman driver of limited ability (isn't that right Mr Warr?). What happened?

In 1986 Nigel should have been World Champion (but for his tyre exploding in the last race of the season). He out-raced, out won and out-qualified Piquet. In 1987, the history books show Piquet was world champion. The truth? Nigel absolutely destroyed the Brazilian. In some qualifying sessions he was TWO SECONDS a lap faster. If the Williams had been reliable Nigel would have won god knows how many races that season.

So who are the best drivers in F1 now? Before this season there were widely acknowledged to be 3 - Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso - who stood out far above the 2nd rank (Button and Raikkonnen). But look at how Vettel is struggling against Ricciardo? Is the Australian the best or was Vettel overrated or is it the formula??

In the last few years Lewis has had his struggles, but for me, his first season in F1 - against Alonso - confirms him as the fastest driver out there.

He seems to be having one of his regular seasons, great driving but the mistakes he makes are the cars fault. Not his.
I hope he can get points to keep up with Niko as I doubt he can win at the Hungaro Ring. Overtaking is more or less only possible in the pitlane.

What a race!!!!! I'm exhausted just watching it.... [&o]

Gotta love Daniel Ricciardo [&o][&o]
Cracking drive from Fernando Alonso [&o][&o]
Incredible comeback from Lewis Hamilton [&o][&o]
Desperate bad luck for Nico Rosberg - he was commanding that race comfortably when the safety car came out at the wrong time - great recovery drive.
Jenson Button [:(].... where did McLaren buy their weather radar?

Ahhh Spa-Francorchamps - is there a better, more beautiful, more daunting racetrack in the world? And is there a more scary, exciting corner? [&o]

I love the old Spa. I know it was dangerous, and I am not advocating going back, but I love getting in to a racing simulation and riding on the old Spa course.

It really was an exciting race. Bad start from Lewis, but did well to get through the first corner. After adjusting the setup, he really got racing. Forcing Nico to make a bad braking manouvre, to take the lead.

Ricciardo showing how to race, nice overtaking and brilliant race against Vettel. I bet Vettel is really "upset" about losing out to the newcomer to the team. I bet he is wishing Weber was back.

Something is nagging away at me. Did Rosberg really make two mistakes? Or was he told to give a win to Lewis as "punishment" for Belgium? I am not normally a conspiracy theorist but......

..just how often do F1 drivers make that kind of mistake - missing his breaking zone - and doing it:

- not once but twice
- doing it in such a way that he never flat spotted his tyres, never spun-off in trying to get the car around the corner (the instinctive reaction)
- in a place I do not recall anyone doing ever that before (not without having a crash or a major "moment".

Yes Ricciardo is just the business - and such a top bloke by all accounts.

Fantastic driving all over the place - Perez, Button, Magnassun, Bottas, Vettel - just quality.

Its all happening on the driver market!

Vettel to Ferrari, Kvyat to Red Bull and, seemingly, Alonso to McLaren.

Guess its goodbye Jenson....

I suppose it makes sense if you think:

- Newey taking a back seat from F1 - who will design the next Red Bull?
- Are Renault going to catch Mercedes - do they have the resources and will to do so?
- Let's be honest, Vettel has been demolished by Ricciardo this season

That seems very unpractical of him.
