It would be interesting if he would post some in their AAR. He does need to be somewhat careful to not trod on Jim and Larry's toes.
It's too late for that.

Just heard from our good friend the Canoerebel:

Hey, John.

We're all doing well. In fact, we're west of you at the moment in the midst of another long family camping trip out west. Right now we're in Vernal, Utah, and will soon head north to Yellowstone. We're trying to stay south of the late winter storm that came through yesterday. We've camped in sleet and fierce wind and drove through snow today. This aint Georgia

We won't be heading into Colorado this trip (though we did briefly come into the southwest corner yesterday while on our way to Hovenweep National Monument near the Four Corners area. What a beautiful site that is, but what a tough night to be in tents!.

I haven't been to the Forum in several weeks since we left town and rarely have internet access. I'll return when I get back home in a few weeks.

Take care,

Dan

The storm he speaks of dropped a crapload of rain and a few inches of snow in LaSalle over to the last two days. The Platte River is now bank-to-bank and we're strongly remembering those damned floods of last year.

I put in that request but, as Larry just demonstrated, that might take some serious doing. Totally understand their view point here.

Now the problem of the allied side is more moral first, tactical/estrategical second, and only at the end about losses. With some good strategies and excellent moral john would be in trouble...

Just spoke to Michael on the phone and he is knee deep in trying to help Jim out. He plans to help for a month of game turns and then phase out. During that time he will not be Posting on the AAR.

Michael is one of the more mature, stable, and helpful people than a lot of the people posting in this AAR. He's one of the true heros of
this game and obviously doesn't mind helping a girl scout. By the way, instead of a fish flopping out of water you might have called us
pond scum instead....you might have gotten more laughs that way.

Regional Report
North Pacific

With us reaching June 1st I thought a region by region update might work for the better.

The Aleutians have been an area of on-again/off-again action. Current plans are to take the base NE of Dutch Harbor to develop into a useful AF and that is about it.

Major Deployed Forces:
Ground
One Army Brigade, the Kawafuto Brigade, and an SNLF Assault Brigade.
A CD unit is currently on the way.

Air
Two Daitai of Fighters, two Chutai of Kates, a Chutai of Vals, one Daitai of Betty, and 18 Emily.

Navy
Attu: 2 CA, 2 CL, and 6 DD

Umnak remains the main base here but we'll soon begin major work to the west to thicken the Japanese Lines.

KURILES
Have got Infantry and Engineers building up four of the Kuriles so they form a strong speed-bump/shoulder if the Allies try anything from the North.

Regional Report
Central Pacific

The Central Pacific LOOKS great. Midway, Johnston, and the Line Islands all are at 3+ on Forts and are fully garrisoned. Have issues with Midway and Palmyra being over stacked but will fix that presently with new units coming in at Tokyo. There are Independent Regiments at Midway, Palmyra, and Christmas Isle that came from China. These are excellent 80+ Experience units so I want to move them to better locations behind the Outer Defense Perimeter. Currently plan to remove the Regiments and replace them with Atoll Defense Units that are a combined Naval Guard and CD unit. NASTY!

Supply is fine through this area. Need fuel.

Secondary positions are well staffed at Wake and Marcus with a slow build-up taking place in the Marshalls and Marianas.

Units Committed:
Ground
3 Ind Regiments, 3 CD units, and LOTS of Engineers and Base Forces.

Air
Have a mobile response force of two Daitai of Zero and 2 Daitai of Betty/Nells ready move towards any major threat spotted.
Strong Emily/Mavis units at Midway, Johnston, and Christmas.
A Daitai of Zeros flies at Johnston to fight any B-17/B-24 raids that come.

Naval
A force of 6 DDs and 3 AMC are at Midway while 4 DD and 2 AMC sit at Christmas. These are my raiding units that have done so well over the last few months.

Regional Report
SE Pacific

The whole thrust of the this campaign was to work on totally cutting off Australia from major resupply. This was done when Tahiti was captured. Since that time the Japanese have gobbled up the various dots and bases stretching from Noumea--Suva--Pago Pago down to the bottom of the map below Tahiti. In a purposeful decision, the Americans were allowed to keep Hiva Oa and the surrounding islands of that chain. The reasoning was to allow them an obvious choice to begin an Offensive Campaign WAY AWAY from Japan. This plan has worked marvelously with the sinking of USS Saratoga during the recent battle! Bases being built-up down in this region are Tahiti, Rangiroa, and Rana. Plan to add a base in the west (south of Suva) and one SE of Rangiroa. Want to build a set of AF that have interlocking support. Rana is being built so we can effectively cover the south edge of the mapboard.

Jim told me that the whole Battle off Tahiti was a DIVERSION designed to slip a major convoy through while I was fixated upon the American Fleet. If true, it certainly worked. Once Rana opens then this will not be allowed to happen again.

Units Committed:
Ground
The 2nd and 68th ID are at Noumea preparing to capture Port Moresby. Once this deed has been done they shall redeploy with the 2nd going to Suva (Mobile Reserve) and the 68th at Noumea.
Imperial Guards Brigade as well as another Brigade from China, and two CD units form the heart of the defense in the Tahiti Region.
Two Air Flotillas and a bunch of Base Forces/Engineers stock the islands down here as well.

Air
80 Zero, 72 Val, 72 Kate, and 81 Betty/Nell provide the punch. Air Search is handled by two large Emily groups and two 24 Plane Jake Daitai.

Fleet
3 CL, 6 DD, and 3 AMC present along with 10-12 SS.
A major deployment of CARDIV3 and 4 is about to occur: Junyo, the freshly added Hiyo (May 30th), and soon to be added (June 3rd) Ryujo will travel south along with CVE's Taiyo and Hosho. Escort is provided by 3 CA, 2 CL, and 11 Modern DDs (five of which enter service on the 3rd). These CARDIVs will form a massed Raiding Group that can Raid and/or help defend the Tahiti Region. They carry a combined 66 Zero, 63 Val, and 54 Kates. Am very certain that this region is not done with action YET!

Once Bases are where we want them, I shall evacuate all Construction/Engineering units (for base construction on the Outer/Inner Perimeter). The units remaining in the Tahiti Region shall be expendable after that. Want to hold as long as possible and force a major commitment of men, air, and ships to this distant region.

Supply and fuel is difficult but manageable presently.

Great to see this game continue! Just saw the uproar of the recent days after the TT hit on Sara. I must admit that I am surprised that you managed to bag her despite the level bombing and the usually decent allied damage control. Though it must have worked to slip the convoy in secretly in turn, it may have been sufficient for your opponents to stay at 8-9 hex and bag a few LBA instead of closing and bombing the AFs? Quite certain the advantage you now own by having recon staged on these far forward bases in the Kuriles, Line and SEPac isles should not be underestimated.

Respects for Jim for holding out... This scenario setup provides a special challenge, and fighting an IJ veteran as well. Looks like we owe him much for this exciting AAR, and I really hope it will get more exciting still when Jim's starts countering seriously in a year...

If Jim can stifle his desire 'to do something' then he has a real chance of getting back into the campaign. In two days I gain a massive (for the Japanese) reinforcement group of CVL Ryujo and 5 modern DDs. Cannot wait for that. BB Musashi and and first Sho-Kai Class CV follow nearly together in about 60+ Days. As long as the Americans don't lose another CV they should be able to come out and 'play' within about 6 months. Course the Japanese Kido Butai will be ready to ROCK as well.

Michael has taken a strong hand to/with Jim so turns are really slow. I have seen a bit of activity over on their AAR so, hopefully, they will get that going. We just got in the June 3rd Turn and things are somewhat calm as I shift troops around getting ready for the next phase of operations.
