Pauk san, in terms of defence what are your thoughts of bulding up your airfeilds. I mean the allies will capture them eventually and a captured lvl 4 airfield speeds up the process of capturing the next base down the line.

Greetings Kapten,

It depends. It is more than clear that i can not defend all bases so i've choosed what would i defend. So, what i consider as important bases i'm expanding and fortyfing while others i'm leaving undeveloped.

Solomons are perfect example for that. My first defencive line is PM-GG-Lunga. Only Lunga is lvl 4 while i don't expand PM and GG. Bases which are next to these bases (Buna, Dobadura, Ferguson island, Munda) i do not expand (but i'm plan to make it hard for Andy to take it). After this "blank belt" i have what i consider as main defencive line (Buin, Torokina, Lae) and these AFs and forts are expanded.

You are right, if i expand all bases and Allies capture them they will have operational bases immediately - what we won't to have[;)]

So, in short, my "box" defensive line consists of "belts" - developed and undeveloped bases...

There where i plan to make a hard stand i develop all bases (Northern Australia, Timor, Marshalls...)... Allies will build these bases in couple of days anyway, thanks to Sea Bees...

I'm still asking myself is Andy really going to start a massive offensive with goal of re-capturing Independent state of Aborigians (north Australia). He can mass enough troops, that's for sure - Aussies and several American divisions.

I have to be prepared for this option too - if i loose north Australia soon i did nothing... No one have experience about northern Australia i think so i'm on my own there. It could be a feint and i don't want to weak other theathers so i will strenghten this particulare theatre only with available forces (one tk regiment and 48th division - they are on route to Derby and Darwin). I have more than 100 army bombers there and keeping reserve with additional 60 bombers in Singapore.

One BB and couple of CA's are in Soerbaya and ready to sails towards Australia if Andy really tries to recapture northern Australian bases. I think it should be enough since his supply routes are extremely streched.

Apart from regular bombings in China (training missions and strikes on Chungking) and PI (training missions) nothing happend.

So i have a time for a little rant against ASW model based on my experience in 1.8 so far. It is simply impossible to found and sink enemy sub.

Look at this picture. I have ASW force for couple of days at Dobadura and crack Betty daitai at PM but both failed even to report this enemy fleet!...





Same in PI. 40 crack bombers can not locate enemy subs in the shallow waters....

Ok, i know that Jap ASW was joke but also know that Japanese didn't pay attention to ASW. I pay a lot attention to the ASW but results are - none! Allied subs can park their subs in base hex and go to fishing because there is nothing that can stop them... I'm afraid of 1943 when Allied subs become dangerous (sic!), what i can expect?

The things like this one happens when there is no comprehensive testing and no experience based on playing the game in the late war period. I'm afraid that this way of the changing certain issues will continue in the future....

OK, i may be wrong - but hey, it is Pauk's corner and i can affort myself a little rant[:D]


IMPERIAL HQ NEWS SHEET

It seems that enemy gathering at the southern Australian railroad (Pert-south Australia). I was tempted to send bulk of northern Australia Army to clear railroad south of Darwin (7 units) but give up - don't want to inform the enemy about my strength there. And Andy would withdraw his units so i would achive nothing.

One division was relased from Kwantung to Burma Army and still on route to Bangkok. Smaller units (SNLF) in Burma already preparing for Broome, Koepang and Derby and will reinforce northern Australia.

I have to be prepared for the most daring plan with goal to cut off my northern Australia army group!

The enemy will, after recapturing Perth gather carriers and invasion fleet and sails towards Timor... if Timor falls to enemy hands i would be in great danger...

I can not stand against AmerBrit CF force so i must fortify Koepang. Although this scenario is not likely going to happen i must protect my units from being cut off.

And units at Timor will be, sooner or latter, anyway on the frontline so they have one goal - delay enemy until my northern Australia army group is not evacuated and recuperated...


I'm thinking about use of the KB in upcoming months... can i use KB against enemy carriers in CV battle (but on my terms under LBA cover) and until then? (when the Allied will become invincible?)

Any thoughts?

A new air campaign in China will start tomorrow. Bombers from Sian (target Chengtu), Hanoi (target Yunan) and Wuhan (old target Chungking) have mission to put Chinese under pressure and supress airfields from where Andy can LRCAPing Chungking and other bases which are in Chinese hands).

No turn from Andy yet and have spare time for read again my AAR and make summary of the operations up to today. Besides that, i desperatly trying to keep this AAR interesting, due total Allied inactivity in last few months[:'(]

IMPERIAL HQ WAR PLANS

Capturing Philippines, Malaya and DEI with minimal casuaulties fast as possible. Once when this goal is achived, IJA/IJN will invade India or Australia (depends on circumstances).


PHILIPPINES

Deadline for capturing PI was 1st February. I was hoped that this goal would be achived because i used 6 divisions (56th division was attached to the "Philippine group Army), a brigade, enough eng units and lots of smaller naval infantry units. Had a quite a lot armour too (sent a couple tank reg from Kwantung and HI defence to PI). Massive air support from IJAAF.

I trapped thim at Clark Field and Manila but couldn't capture Manila.

MALAYA/BURMA

Original plan was allowing the Allies air superiority temporarely, until i have enough Zero daitais to protect Malaya skies and deal with AVG and B17s. Since i had insufficient forces for rapid advance trough Malaya peninsula i attach 33th, 55th and Imperial guard division from Burma Area army for "Ish-proc-go" (capturing Malaya peninsula) - these units were marching from Thailand trough peninsula towards Singapore. I took Khota Baru right at the start of the war.

Andy massed his troops at Johore Baru and set there 1st defensive line -didn't helped him too much.

Singapore falls 18th January which was good. Andy thought that i would wait with Singapore until i deal with Philippines so he actually reinforced Singapore.


Burma was big gamble - i could assign only two tank rtg and one mix regiment (hoped for holding Moulmein-Raheang line until i capture Malaya). Andy made a huge mistake there and kept bulk of his forces at Moulmein, while i flanked him and capture Burma with this pathetic force. He evacuated brigades from Burma but i was able to inflict a huge casaulties to him (I used paras for Pagan and Tang Gyui).

DEI

Waited for baby KB support and I was slowed down there because Andy transfered few airgroups from CV to Amboina and because active role of the Z force. Anyway, after two months i hold all southern DEI (including Koepang).

PACIFIC

PH strike was dissapointing (it is always dissapointing). No BBs sunk. I lost a month with KB lurking and waiting for ships on route to the West coast (didn't know that Andy using picket line consisting of single-low-value ships).

Slowly progresing in SW PAC. Kaveing captured.

CHINA

Afer two months of the war i captured allmost whole southern railroad line (except the Wuchow).

AUSTRALIA

I've decided to invade Oz somewhere in the start of Feburary.

I think this is a new bug. I saw the same message flash across our replay in my PBEM and wondered if the Japanese could see it too. We got the same withdraw for November as well (CV), hope it isn't hard coded in or something.

This should NOT be visible to Japan.

Operations in northern China would take some time, that's for sure. But I'm not in rush there. Still waiting for some army bombers and shortly i would start Nemeza-go with goal to close all his remaining airfields.

He can hide in Australia, he can hide in Pacific but he can not hide in China - and no single enemy base would escape Empire's wrath!

A major reorganisation of my air units is scheduled in next few days. Shortly - i would move few Army sentais to Japan (trained to 80 exp), rest skilled pilots will strengthen crack air groups while others will train to satisfying level (60+). These regular groups will face the enemy at the frontlines while crack groups will be in reserve but ready for Divine strike when the time comes. Same goes for naval bombers....

Fuel could mean that he would try to push me in Burma (with naval bombardment). In that case i need to keep an eye and protect my fighters in Rangoon. I'm not sure that he could do something else - i have 4 divs in Burma (one on their way) and one div + mix bde in Malaya...

Another strike on Yunan, but escort refuses to fly. I hate this and every time i send my bombers i fear that Andy would ambush me... Airfield is now 28% damaged and he lost 4 transports due ops (i think his transports flying to Yunan).

Ok, i have to admit that i was quite depressed last few months due total unactivity from Andy.

Hi Pauk,

As your game and mine are virtually on the same date, I thought I’d give you a little insight about the allied position. First I think his inactivity right now is simply due to the October upgrades. They are practically due on every ship he has, and unless he had his ships pre-positioned in port on October 1, my guess is he’s got quite a few ships still trying to repair the damage from the upgrades. I know from my game that I still have ships in the 8-12 system damage range as of November.

Also if I remember correctly (sorry too many AAR’s I’m following to remember specifics, you should do an overview summary every 6 months or so to help readers keep up with current affairs) neither of you has lost any carrier assets. So as in my game you both now have very strong and capable carrier forces, so he’ll have to be very cautious about how and when he uses his carriers. The allies don’t start getting any more fleet carriers for almost a year, so running around willy nilly with his carriers can set back his ability to counter-attack you by a year.

At this point in the game it is of no benefit to the allies to engage you in a carrier battle. He needs them around in order to counter-attack bases outside of his land based air range, so he will probably avoid any kind of carrier action if he can. You of course should seek one with extreme prejudice since things will only go down hill for you fast once you near the end of 1943 and CV’s start to pour into the allied shipyards.

I’d expect to see him take back Australia before he launches many sea based invasions, except perhaps in the Marshall Islands where he can support his operations from the Gilbert Islands with relatively light use of his CV’s. He needs Australia as a secure base of operations, so my guess is a large chunk of the forces normally used in the conquest of the Solomon Islands (and almost all of the Southwest Pacific forces) will get diverted to Australia for a large land campaign.

Once he has Australia secure he’ll probably then come out to play, either in New Guinea or the Dutch East Indies. My guess would be New Guinea as you’ll have lots of extra resources in the south of the SRA after he finally forces you out of Australia, so that route would be tougher for him to take then usual. Of course if he destroys a large chunk of the troops in Australia before you can evacuate them, then perhaps an attack in the SRA would be a better option for him.

Of course these are just my musings, he may simply sail up to Tokyo and land 8 divisions. [X(][X(][:D][:D]
