Lock the thread Frag (or Mog) Does the board need another 17 redundantly worded pages on how bad a game WitP is by those who arn't willing to prove it personally? Give the servers....and the public a break from this BS.

And when I saw what I took as a "dig" at cabbies I was just fed up.
You percieved an insult that was not there. I was not assigning any value to his worth as a person, I was giving an evaluation of his ability to design a game and bring it to market. I could have used any number of professions: doctor, lawyer, hairdresser, or hooker. In fact, I originally wrote a different profession, then got curious if he marked a profession on his profile on the boards. When I checked, I noted he was a taxi driver, and it was too good a line to pass up.
Given that you were a cabbie in the past, you are sensitive to comments about them. People tend to be sensitive to criticisms of people they can identify with. I'm sensitive to criticisms of the work of game designers and programmers, because I've done both. I've walked in the shoes of GG, so I defend WitP where I think it should be defended. Where I think there is a problem, I try to suggest solutions in a respectful manner (I'm not always succesful). For me, supply is nowhere near the top of the list of issues that need to be addressed. I've discussed the reasons enough already.

Oz,
Your explaination makes sense. I am sorry I took your statement in a way you did not intend. Have a nice day.

Beer prices here, i'd be broke in a week [:(]
Canada has two taxes that completely support the country ... the Beer tax and the Smokes tax ... I once figured it out and it scared me ... after the standard 40% tax I pay, I then get hosed 15% sales tax on everything I spend, then I get hosed about 480% on smokes and 300% on beer ...
Ron can tell you all about what a bottle cost him in his bar ... it is SHOCKING just how much we are taxed up here.
With the gallonage tax on top of everything else, the cost to the retailer in a bar is basically ON PAR with the price paid by the guy on the street! Complete BS. Then of course the bar owner has to collect the GST (General Sales Tax) off the sale of the product for the govt, the RST (Retail Sales Tax), PST (Provincial Sales Tax), pay Business Tax and a whack of lesser municipal and sudry taxes. The one I
like the most is the Sign Encroachment Tax, a fee paid yearly for having your business sign occupy Ottawa air space.

Don't worry Ron, with the election coming shortly, Quebec will be gone from Canada and finally we can get rid of the double language packaging tax [:D]

I will have to search a bit, but that is probably the most arrogant thing I've seen posted on the boards in a long time.
Looks like you won't have to search very far after all Oz..... [;)]
Whatever. Should you ever wake up for real, though, be sure to open your eyes. The view is terrific.
Genuine comedy, that! [:D]
My opinion (and it ain't worth much) is that I'd like to see an AAR, see the points raised in action, and the subsequent discussion. If Ron wants to play CHS then I can't really see the problem as the supply in that is reduced anyway.
I respect Ron and TJ for putting forth their views. (I wish TJ would do so in a less condescending way at times) Now they have a chance to demonstrate their opinions and I am interested to see the results. I hope they go ahead with this.
Just started reading the AAR between AmiralLaurent and Pomphat. There is absolutely no need for TJ and I to start an AAR (stock game or otherwise) to showcase and prove our opinions on the overabundance of supply and the issues with the logistics model itself. AmiralLaurent is doing that and more as the Japanese player. Amazing player man!

Rick, I don't get your comment. Have you read the AAR I mentioned? Clear as day.

The AAR mentioned shows a net positive supply for the war of 724,000 supply points. From this it is infered that supply is broken globally. I believe this is an incorrect analysis and I present my argument below.
The time frame now reached in the game represents the high point in terms of supply generation for Japan. During the previous six months they have captured whatever resourses they are going to and they have captured most of the bases with associated supply.
So:
1.) At this moment in the game supply production will never be higher for Japan. From here on it is downhill as the allies will begin bombing resourse centers and eventually capturing some of these.
2.) The period in which Japan can capture supply on a large scale is now over. This is a very significant factor and probably accounts for a fifth to one third of that 724,000 figure.
3.) Consumption of supply is currently at a low point. Most of the early conquests are relatively bloodless and where casualties occured these may well not have been replaced either due to have replacements turned off or due to the location of the units. As the allies begin placeing greater pressure on Japan, supply requirements will increase to replace the casualties. Plus as Japan expands its military (reinforcements) its supply requirements will correspondingly increase. The allied submarine offensive is hardly effective until 43 but thereafter will also greatly crimp Japans supply situation.
Therefore is seems that the appropriate supply arc for Japan is that it must be net supply positive for some period of time. Sometime in 43 it should shift to supply neutral and then downhill from there.
Once it becomes supply negaitive the end is in site as it will only get worse.
If Japan were even supply neutral in June 42 it would be in great trouble. Destroy 500 resourse points and you are now 1000 supply points per day in the hole. Consumption is increasing and the allies will soon destroy more then 500. You can do the math from here.

I must admit I made my post before reading the majority of the thread. It was the posts blasting the game, beta testers and the developers that I was responding to. I'm all for constructive debate on improving the game but I take great exception to calling game improvements bugs. If the code worked as designed but the outcome is not historically correct, it is not a bug but a design issue.

But hey. I'm glad you're here burning with the rest of us!
