I don't follow football although I have watched a few matches. I actually prefer to watch the ladies play but then . . .
Enjoy the games while you can. Don't get too worked up over the results, after all is said and done, it is just a game.
Of course this might be boring for the fans at the game with no beer available at the stadiums so how will the fights start? Oh well, respect the local customs.

VAR.
So in the first half Maguire gets assaulted by someone not even vaguely interested in where the ball is. When a bear hug failed to stop the England defender, the Iranian defender simply man-handles him to the floor.
Result? Nothing to see, carry on.
Second half there is a bit of a scramble in the box and two England players together clash with the Iranian striker. Sometimes a penalty will be given, sometimes not.
Result? Penalty.
I mean, how has that level of inconsistency improved the game?

VAR means that it is harder for the people in charge to get away with things. That doesn't mean that they stop trying. It just means that scoring a goal with an obvious hands can not be ignored without exposure. Ignoring a penalty after some wrestling is another thing completely.
Hopefully, all corruption will slowly be weeded out. Not saying that there were corruption in play. Just that corruption, foul play, and such, has a long and ugly history.

What Football/soccer Team You Support?
For me it's Preston North End. Old world hometown doesn't have pro football.

You said it.
What eludes me however, is that they could not close the match after taking the lead. Very baffling.

if we were in the 16th century...
Spanish General Inquisitor:
If the heretic England scores 6 goals in the first match we have to score at least 7!
Team:
At your service. Oh, master of our sinful souls!
Spain 7 - Costa Rica 0

Why not just follow Ronaldo out over the sidelines, instead of giving him the chance to fall eludes me. Bah.

So Richarlison can't score for Spurs, but he can score for Brazil....

Maybe the climate has something to do with it? More fun to play with Brazil in nice weather, than to play in England during the winter half of the year?
I am sure he gets a small fortune to go to work as a football professional, and that he will do his best as a professional each time he is fielded. However, used as he is to a warmer climate, I suspect he finds it less fun, and a lot less inspiring.

Wales???? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Sorry, but as much as i wanted them to win, they got exactly what they deserved. The Majority of the Welsh team are Premier League players - so why was their sole tactic to lump the ball forward in a hit and hope fashion?? So disappointing.....
Speaking of disappointing, England are up later

In a shocking development..... England are stinking the place out in a game of football!! Who ever saw that coming??
Wales played like a League 2 team. England? They play like a conference team thinking they are a Premier League team... slow, boring, predictable.

Sluggish attacking performance from England, just so slow and unimaginative considering the wealth of attacking talent on that team.
But a lot of that is down to the US playing a very disciplined and focused game defensively. No one switched off at a crucial time or shied away from the moment, growing in confidence as the game went on.
The US faces Iran next. A lot of old enmity there which has nothing to do with football.
