That's the difference between John, a Yankee, and me, a Rebel. See, I'd set out to invade Maryland or Pennsylvania and think I'd succeed. John would be sure that I wouldn't.

Why keep losing DMSs at Ominato? If you are using BBs at 30K, then mines should not be a problem. Stop it.
They remains a problem afaik. Last time we hit Ominato one of our CA (Luisville) was struk by a mine despite being set to bomb at 30k yards...
However now i have no more DMSs to spare so i'll be forced to stop [:D]
If you want you can ship the YMS from the west coast to japan and use them to sweep. You get a gazillion of them.

We're all gonna die.....might as well go out in a blaze of Honshu invading fun. Few can say....been there, done that. Have a great time, Ser Greyjoy!
princepBolton, hauling a Radio Flyer full of "fun and entertaining stuff" and sporting Mickey Mouse Ears, boards the USS New Jersey, a happy man. He mutters, "It's a great day to die".
I hate to be a downer but I want to go on record as this invasion failing. You folks can hold me to this. I can't exactly say why, but there are 500 Betty's unaccounted for, lots of kami's the KB, surface assets and a formidable opponent. I know he has something planned. I am routing for you GJ, and I wouldn't do much different (except land further south) but mark me in the "bridge too far" column. That being said, give em hell!! Time to put up guys, what do you think?
I know john....don't think i don't know that...but the game has run so mch further that i don't have any other option...bore him (and me and you) to death with a 2years long strat bombing campaign or try the impossible and have fun for all of us!.

Hmm, there's no Rebel Yell avatar, but if there was I'd use it now!
I believe that at a minimum GJ will get ashore, take Hachinoe (losses to air attack notwithstanding), and possibly even get the northern quartet of bases. Then again, we've never seen this attempted, so who really knows? Whether GJ could then march to Tokyo is up in the air, but even capturing the northern bases means the bombing campaign will have serious fighter escort throughout Japan.

Oh I agree. you could bomb him to death but whats the point? Frankly, if the whole thing fails you can still bomb him to death. I just don't know what we are all going to do when this game is over. Better we have Götterdämmerung ,then to be the test bed for fighter escort tweaks. To paraphrase The Princess Bride : "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you sunk my escort carriers, prepare to die!"

Oh, and for those who are interested in little details...
...finally the first Australian fighter squadron has arrived in NOPAC theatre...
When the whole operation begun i had decided to leave the whole RAAF in the Solomons/NG/OZ in order to keep the feint plausible and to provide a good protection for our bases there...
...but after more than 5 months i started to feel ashamed of leaving the whole fight on the american and british airmen shoulders...so i decided to get at least a single australian fighter squadron to Hokkaido...
I chose the 75th Fighter squadron.... and i stripped every single Australian ace i had in my rooster, equip it with spits VIII and send them to Hokkaido... now they are in place!
Next turn will also see the arrival of 3 NZ fighter squadrons....
Now we really have the whole allied air forces there. USAAF, USN, USMC, RAF, RAAF, RNZAC, RCAF and a tiny squadron of Commonwelth pilots
Will keep the 75th RAAF squadron under a constant vigilance...let's see how these guys from down under perform in this terrible and harsh theatre![8D]

Any thoughts why rader has so many units broken down??
As far as I know, all its doing is increasing the unit count, great masirovska until they start getting bombed.
I also believe that it hurts in combat in that larger units get hurt slower.
As to the result of the Invasion, IMVHO, You will get ashore, I dont think the IJA is strong enough to kick you out, or that you will be strong enough to move further than the northern end of Honshu.
Dont listen to any of those Rebel dudes, they think Gettysburg and Sharpsburg were succesful invasions!

This may look a lot like Sharpsburg. 2 heavyweights standing toe to toe just slugging it out with lots of damage. This is going to be a big furball. lots of sunk ships me thinks, and the big ones!

At least if not one of the most recent beta patches changed anything, breakdown of units have at least the following effect:
Advantage:
- Faster replacements (as every part drawns own replacements (I tripple checked that with tracker and at least with the m patches it still worked that way (3x the replacements)))
- Faster recovery of disabled squads (but i am no longer sure if that works any more. At least in the recent betas it seems that the /A recovers the most. I did not check if the actual recovery is still higher than without splitting.)
Disadvantage:
- Easier to kill and disabled the parts than if combined into a division during combat. For some "strange" reason small units tend to be hit with highes priority during combat. Might have changed. Conducted a test some time ago with 3 divisions and 3 bdes defending a base. After some combat rounds without retreating the 3 bdes where almost killed and the divisions only suffered around 15 disabled squads each.

Here we are guys...our shippings have been ordered to leave Bihoro...tomorrow we'll hit the shores of Kushiro, under the greatest CAP Umbrella the allies have ever had...We'll also bomb Ominato to keep the AF closed and Hacinoe, to disable some more of those pesky CD guns...so in 4 days (2 turns) we'll know the fate of the greatest landing operation ever tried in human history...

Valar Morghulis, indeed, Ser Greyjoy.......but, first the LYBs and then, decades later, quietly asleep in our beds, we will join them with a sadistic sneer on our faces. Where ever we go, when the vanquished LYBs see us approaching, they shall run for the deepest depths of hell to escape thy fearful symestry.

[Hands rubbed to the bone in anticipation.] It hurts to see those DMSs get expended like that. Like beppi said, use some of your YMSs.
Speaking of YMSs, on Korean cable a couple of months ago "YMS-504 of the Navy" was playing, so I had to watch. It's a 1963 Korean flick with horrible special and sound effects, but kinda cool nevertheless to see one of those tubs in action, firing that 20 mike mike against the evil North Korean patrol boat. I suppose at the time of the Korean War it was one of the top fleet units of ROKN.
Back to topic, I would not bet against GreyJoy at this point. I think he'll succeed and even eventually take Tokyo if we get that far (think Inchon-like invasion behind the huge wall in the north).
Cheers,
CC
