Things are getting more fluid in the south. I am even able to do a couple of hasty attacks with my armor. I can't encircle anything yet but the threat is there and he has to move his units out of the danger zone.

T82 - New Guard Ratio

We are in January 1943. The new year means that the guard ratio once again changes. Therefore, I receive a large number of new guard divisions which are railed back to gain the +5 morale. Also, national morale is now at 46.

Slow motion encirclement of Leningrad.

This result surprised me. The ratio of men and artillery is astronomical yet the combat ratio is very narrow. Something doesn't look right here.

He had to vacate the pocket to avoid encirclement. Fortifications are getting very low south of Krivoi Rog. I will continue with a two prong assault.

Steady progress towards the Finnish border. The Finnish armor division gets activated and loses most of its tanks. I decide to go straight for Pskov. I will hold a line at the Narva.

Another bewildering combat report. Despite 10:1 in men and 20:1 in artillery the odds are only 2:1.

Poltava is captured without a fight. Panzers are activated but can't change the combat odds enough.

I continue to soften up his line. Caucasus Front is now actively joining the fight. I also had plans to break out of Odessa but all attempts over the last couple of turns failed. You simply need an army HQ for any offensive and I just can't land one in the city.

This is the best unit I have in my arsenal at the moment. This one should be an absolute monster once experience catches up with morale.

Not bad Oshawott, but will it ever compete with the mighty GD division? Of course, I need to have about 10 more of these in my game in summer '44.....

Nothing competes with the GD division. I think this division has caused morvael serious headaches. Split this one up and you have 3 regiments with 15 CV each for reserve activation. [X(]

Osh, You said something in an earlier post about guards changes in '43. I thought the .15 patch did away with the +5 morale bonus for guards. If the bonus is still in, do you have to move the guard units 10 hexes (or more) back to get the bonus and do they have to be in refit and on rails?

thx

I was referring to the percentage of guard units you can have. This changes at different points of the game.
 1941 - 5 percent
 January - June 1942 -10 percent
 July - December 1942 - 17 percent
 1943 - 25 percent
 1944 - 30 percent

As far as I know there still is a +5 morale bonus for guards. You have to move them back 10 hexes. Rail is not important for this bonus.

Western Front almost always hits one or two of his best stacks. Further south I use most my mobile units in a hit and run fashion. Fortifications here are getting very weak.

I continue my drive towards Romania. I have started to completely reorganize the Red Army. A number of armies are pulled out of overloaded fronts. I am going to set up Southwestern Front as an all tank front. Not very realistic but I think it's efficient. It will allow me to move my tanks up and down the front wherever I need them.

In the center the Germans and Hungarians are retreating.

The game understates Front capacity by a good deal, imo. So you can never put together a super Front like the 1944 1. Ukrainian without severely overloading it.

Which leaves you with various expedients, none very satisfying. Yours is as good as any. I've tried leaving all the mobile units under STAVKA command, or putting one such Army per front, and both were meh.
