If you load restricted naval air units that can go onto carriers, AV, or CS class, then they will become unrestricted. Then enlarge them to 81 slots and use them as well.

I have done this for all Float Planes groups that allow it on the size 24 CS Chitose class ships. Some that have their own baked in size changes can't be resized, but I will check again after those changes occur.

I haven't yet "supersized" any carrier capable groups as CV Akagi has been busy on the front lines, but I am about to start doing that using the size 71 CV Hiryu. When Akagi gets back to Japan I will increase these groups to 81. I'm currently planning to do this only to the following air groups:

I don't have the 500+ pilots to fill these groups out with trainees yet, but will bring the pilots in once they graduate from basic flying school. I won't be deploying these large groups to forward areas, but will use them to help boost the pilot training program.

I don’t actually have to spend any PPs to get more planes into China as some of the ground units I’ve moved out of Manchukuo are making captured Chinese bases belong to Kwantung Army, so 2nd Air Div units can fly to those bases for free. I’m only going to move out the 2nd and 4th Air Div HQs plus the 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th JAAF Base Force units. I’ll leave the AF Bns behind until the KA garrison allows a few of them to be moved too. .

Southeast Area Fleet:
Enemy BB/CA and heavy bombers/long range search are known to be present. There is a risk of concentrated USN + RN CVs and overwhelming surface combat task forces in the South Pacific, however USN fuel supplies may still be low this far from the West Coast. As I've spotted RN BBs down here, I am half expecting that CS has concentrated all USN and RN carriers in the South Pacific. I will keep all of my carriers together for the next raid just in case they show up near Noumea. I know that Noumea, Suva and Pago have been built up as well as New Zealand, so there must be allied ships moving around behind that line. With the 6th and 7th Aus Divs spotted in NE India, Australia may be relatively lightly held, but 14th Army on its own isn't strong enough to take on Eastern Australia.

The current focus is to build up PNG and Solomons air bases and get long range naval patrol and recon eyes further into the South Seas. I will try to capture as far south as Efate in this next phase. 14th Army is preparing to attack Noumea but I won’t launch that operation until I know what allied forces are on New Caledonia. I am mainly moving SNLF and JNAF Coys forward right now, but will follow them up with Naval Construction Bns and Naval Guard units. CS has shown that he likes to send bombardment task forces forward, so KB will sortie south shortly to try and catch one in the act.

4th Fleet (Central Pacific Area Fleet):

Enemy is mainly subs, otherwise it is very quiet. Seeing as the allies abandoned Wake Island I am wondering if they have done the same thing to Baker and Canton Islands. I’ve seen some evidence of the allies building up Christmas Island PO and Midway, but not much else in this area yet.

I’m currently fortifying the Marshall Islands, building a few air bases in the Gilberts, and also pushing forward a screen of JNAF Coys to support naval search and recon dets. I want to make contact with allied ground forces and also push subs forward to try and identify the allied main supply routes, but as I push small task forces forward they will be vulnerable to raiding USN destroyers or similar. I could really do with a few more Mavis-L transport units to help push the front line forward without having to risk ships out here, but I am only building 10 of those planes / month.

Northeast Area Fleet:

The enemy are building up Adak Island as a major forward base and I just spotted another allied task force moving west near Ulak Island. The allies might push further west in the Aleutians before I can get any troops out there to contest these bases.

Preparations for an operation into the Aleutians to capture Attu, Kiska and Amchitka are in progress, but the ground units required don’t arrive for another 17 days. By coincidence, I will have enough PP to buy out the 52nd Div in 17 days as well, and I’m leaning towards moving it to NEAF for two reasons:
1. I may be able to create an opportunity to destroy whatever the allies have moved to Adak Island. If I can capture Attu Island I can put some recon over Adak to find out whether an attack by 52nd Div would work, and get them planning for it. This would need a decent percentage of the Combined Fleet to be on the scene to get them safely ashore.
2. The allies may be planning an all-in drive through NORPAC, so if I move 52nd Div to NEAF that would also provide some insurance against that sort of allied venture.
Having spotted the RN BBs in SOPAC recently, I am starting to think CS is more likely to have concentrated all allied CVs to SOPAC, but all I can do to counter is to keep my CVs together and maintain the initiative by attacking where I choose and make CS react to me. This should work for about the next 8 months of game time.
I am also building up Kuriles air bases and fortifications, plus expanding a few key ports on Sakhalin and Hokkaido to help move resources.

Enemy is mainly subs,

you want to focus on killing as many as you can from start until about 8/43. There is an under the hood upgrade to allied ASW and SS that happens then and you ability to kill will drop off tremendously. Worse, they get much deadlier. So I work to create SS traps, sacrificing some xAK's or whatever to get subs. even a 1:2 ratio will work for me.

It's 81 points to buy out an Air Div, so not even two days worth of PP.
I don't need to do it right now but both HQ 2nd and 4th Air Divs would be more use for the next 3 years of the war as part of Southern Army, especially in Burma/NE India. I am using them both in China now with no issues, so once Chungking and Chengtu are captured that is probably when I will do it. I am saving all PP right now to buy 52nd Div out of Japan.

Disruption and fatigue will recover quickly, and supply top up should arrive tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see if this sparks a withdrawal from Changsha.
I am going to move most of this force east to try and encircle the Chinese at and NW of Changsha.

One of the challenges I’ve had is to keep 20k+ supplies at a few key bases to allow airgroup upgrades. I’ve started to rectify that over recent turns with the main Area Fleet HQ locations all to hold more than 20k supplies from now on. HQ SWAF is moving to Singapore which has 20k+ supply. HQ Southern Fleet is moving from Cam Ranh Bay to Soerabaja but Soerabaja needs about 10k more supply after I moved most of it to Timor. Manila is effectively Southern Fleet (HQ rear). HQ SEAF has moved forward to Rabaul which has 30k+ supply and a reasonable fuel stockpile, mainly from Balikpapan. HQ 4th Fleet has taken over responsibility for Truk which has 50k+ supply, and is rebuilding a fuel stockpile after KBs last replenishment nearly drained it. HQ NEAF (5th Fleet currently) is at Hakodate with ample supply and enough fuel for local fleet operations.

The sub war got a bit spicy again today.

Getting tactical in China, I just spent some time waiting for the turn to come back looking for ways to free up some of 1st Army to join the general advance.
There are two Chinese forces, one around Yenan and the other around Tsiaotso.
If any of these Chinese forces fall back towards Sian that is fine. Sian now has level 3 forts and can be defended by 110th Div from NCAA.
I will leave Yenan to be watched by the 4th Mongol Cavalry Div.

1. 4 IMB (210AV) part of 62nd Div, will move SE after 4th MC Cav/A arrives to maintain hex control. 4th and 9th IMB will then try a combined deliberate attack.
2. 9 IMB (210AV) will keep up bombardments to try and wear down the Chinese stack
3. 3 IMB (210AV) will conduct an assault river crossing NE to close the SW Tsiaotso hexisde as it is excessive AV for Loyang garrison. I expect it to take heavy disablements but shouldn’t be destroyed. The disablements will recover. It can then make some slow cross country moves to close other hexsides around Tsiaotso.
4. 9 RGC Route Bde will move to be the permanent Loyang garrison with 26/20 AV
5. 5th AC Coy – I don’t want to sacrifice it with an assault river crossing, but seeing as the defenders are out of supply it might not be destroyed. I don’t have many other forces spare up here so I will just do it and see what happens. If it doesn’t destroy itself it will move to close the other hexsides of the 3 unit Chinese stack. This will take a few weeks due to the cross country movement.
6. 15th Tank Regt belongs to 12th Army but is moving east to see what the single Chinese unit is. This Tank Regt only has 28 tanks so I doubt it would hold up to an attack by 10k riflemen. This movement might prompt a backwards move from the 9 unit Chinese stack.
7. The two Bdes from 69th Div will remain at Tientsin as the garrison they can be replaced by a couple of NCAA Bdes + something small to make up the 320 garrison requirement.

Out of all of this I might be able to free up 3rd and 4th IMBs to conduct slow cross country movement to try and close other hexsides. If 5th Armd Car Coy doesn’t destroy itself it will be used to do the same, but I will move 15th Tank Regt back to 12th Army.
