There has been a considerable facelift in the grphics department, but what other improvements have been made? Don't get me wrong, so far I have been floored by the improved graphics, addition of grass, ect., but what else has been improved over Kharkov?

Does this answer any of your questions?

There have been changes to all aspects of the series. Months ago we were at a point where more than 70% of the code had been tweaked and had adjustments made to it.

Let's see that means we didn't change the Panzer Command series name and we left the original scenarios in the game.

EVERYTHING ELSE has been looked at, changed - at least once/in some cases multiple times, improved, modified, or removed. For better, or worse, our fingerprints are all over PCO. This is not your first 2 games of the series. This is an entire overhaul!

Good Hunting.

Knockdown of wooden fences is in. Small trees as well.

While we are admiring the latest screenshot, I am wondering "Has there been any improvements to the information bar at the bottom of the screen? And can it be MOD'ed at all with different colours etc.?"

There are a few additional information elements in the 3 panels at the bottom of the screen. Some new buttons have been added that allow you to see the initial battle briefing while you're in the battle now, and allow you to toggle the message box off. The game spped control has been improved to clearly display the spped you're playing at, and the speed ranges has increased (up to 10x now). Some changes were to the icons to indicate more clearly some of the conditions a unit can have (ie, bogged, 1 track damage, engine damage, etc).

There is some modding possible in this area, primarily with the shape and color of the different icons and indicators used.

Thanks
rick

great pic! I am very happy that it was decided to go with the grass. I made a post a while ago(before grass) about how the ground looked a little blurry up close. I think it was Mad Russian that posted a few shots of the ground at different distances and although it look ok, it was definitely missing something. Even though it delayed release, I feel that grass has greatly enhanced the looks and immersion of the game.

Great work everyone!

Rick,
The shots are great. I enjoy each one. There is always something new and interesting. It just keeps the momentum up for anticipation.

I didn't notice the sunflowers until I read Lancer's post. I was so caught up looking at the vehicles. Very nice touch those.

The wide expanse of the sky and the clouds have a major impact as well. You can get the feeling that the countryside just keeps on going and going into the horizon.

Really superb work.

Thanks,
Heinrich55

Here is a comparison of the old First of Many, which has an AAR done somewhere on the site.

You can see multiple changes to this scenario from the comparison shots.

The bottom SS is the original version. There were no setup zones, the blue areas and the trees were all forest. Now we have thicker trees off away from the battle area. The wheat field which was bare before now has wheat in it. Denoted by me by using the yellow color.

The original had 2 German and 2 Soviet flags. Which I had changed in the version shown below to 1 German/1 Soviet and 2 neutral flags. Now all flags are neutral and are intended to fall to whoever gets there first.

Ground textures have been changed as well and the entire map has a bit darker tint to it.

Good Hunting.

We'll see that 76mm gun and raise you one that you don't need two gunners to aim.

You don't need to be a Soviet sailor to fill in the rest when you see these heading your way.

Awesome graphics! Picture perfect!

So here's a "Q", in so far as the kill stripes go I assume there are just three designs here (None, two and five stripes) or are they actually represented based on kills? That would be amazing if so!

I think that was a shot from one of Mobius' scenarios. He would have added the kill stripes when he created the scenario. So sorry, not based on in-game kills.

But I did think they looked neat!

Thanks

No, you can't have the game put kill stripes on the tanks for you. What the scenario designer can do though is make each tank have a different set of decals. Which I believe is a first in tactical wargaming.

What that means, of course, is that every Tiger I in PCO is not numbered 101 but that they can all have different numbers, as well as different numbering patterns and even different colors for those numbers that are chosen. Number sets are chosen for a platoon so all the tanks of the same platoon will have the same style and color but could have different numbers for each individual tank.

Good Hunting.

Oh well not a big issue anyway...lol. Great about the rest however!

The kill stripes come from the decal. The decal has both the number and the stripes. So you have to change the decal to change the strioes.
The decal is assigned by the scenario. That particular Tiger's number is 1331, which was Michael Wittmann's number at Kursk.
