What a phenomenally brilliant time (from my point of view) for the Allies to attack… at the same time as the IJ force launching an attack. Fantastic odds and resultant casualties are certainly in favour of the Empire. With this result I certainly can live with having the fort level reduced.

529 combat squads destroyed and 641 disabled and out of supply at Moulmein! You now have a golden opportunity to destroy or severely cripple his almost entire forces in India for 1942. Once having accomplished that you could easily start a counter offensive nto India and make him rush several American LCUs of Division size to India to save a complete collapse. Once he sends them there it will be 12-18 months to make up the loses and start an meaningful operation anywhere else on the map. If I were you I would crush this stack force it back across the river crippled and with his limited pools to rebuild these British, Australian and Indian units he will be unable to stop you from conducting and future operations in Burma and India. You could actually win the war by destroying this concentration of almost his entire unrestricted units in this theater. Your harvest of VPs for the LCU squadrons destroyed this turn and the vessels sunk must be mind boggling. Short of a one sided carrier battle losing several carriers and hundreds of AC and your opponent loses no carriers and on a few aircraft, this is equal to that in the possible outcome of the game. In other words, great job and don't take the pedal off the metal.

Thanks Bif1961. It has been an amazingly quick transformation in terms of where I was at only a couple of months ago. Basically resigned to never quite making it to Rangoon. Now, as you point out, not only is Rangoon on the table but very, very much else besides. Time will tell but everything has fallen so nicely into place over the last couple of weeks. I don't see the Allies attempting to reinforce after being soundly knocked around at sea so I do expect to whittle that stack down in time. And then there will be the prospect of finding out just what is hiding in Rangoon itself.

Recon Pegu and consider landing a division+ behind there and cut off his line of supply yo Moulmein. That way his negative supply will stay that way and speed the destruction of that stack against your bombarding and resting attackers. Each time you attack he loses squads destroyed as compared to you squads disabled and later recovered. If you land behind him cutting off line of supply and easier escape rout you might try to work units around him to the east and north-east to cut off all avenues of retreat, As you said he has taken massive naval and additional ground loses near Ramree Island and may not have the current strength in the area, except air to stop you from surrounding and destroying the bulk of his forces in India and Burma. This might be the first time in a long time, in AARs, where the war is lost in Burma and India for the Allies. This can be turned into a debacle of the first order.

Pegu is certainly being looked at. 33rd Division is making the river crossing to come out on the other side. Another division is being landed at the sea hex that flipped on the other side of Pegu. As for Moulmein Japan holds all the hex sides except the solitary hex side that the Allied stack used to enter the hex. This hexside will soon be closed off and all hexsides, inside and out, will belong to Japan. There is little hope of reinforcement and just as little hope for the Allied stack to punch a way out of this trap.
Japan may well win this battle and do so handsomely but the US remains as a potent adversary. Perhaps auto victory will be achieved and then again maybe not. At the very least I have gained valuable time to consolidate in Burma and consider closing the Burma/India door to China.
