Northern China is secured now too with the last base in the mountains being secured... we destroy the rest of the Chinese Airforce by taking Sining and force the defending troops out of the base... there is another stack of Chinese units (reported as 50000 men) NE of Lanchow heading North too so I expect to see about 70000 men trying to defend the road going North to the last Chinese oilfield in the very far North... this is where my Army is going to advance to as it would give us another 450 oil per day...

right at the start of the replay I'm getting pissed off again... why? Because of one of my favourites in the game besides the super strato dive of fighters, the so called air routine... after attacking the convoy off Horn Island several days ago we kept spotting it there further unloading and we didn't see an increase of fighters on CAP so we ordered another airstrike against the ships... this time I also transferred two Sentais of Tojos to Port Moresby to sweep the Warhawks at Horn Island BEFORE the IJNAF attacks the shipping there... so we have 370mph Tojos at Port Moresby which is closer to Horn Island then Lae, where we have the not even 300mph Nells... how does it play out? As usual, without any sense of tactic or whatever as these things just aren't taken into account in this so called "routine"... all strikes from Lae came in first being horrible shot up by the Warhawks as my Zeroes are nothing but outdated crap, especially on escort... the bombers get through and put three torps into three different freighters, which usually is enough to sink such a ship... the Zeroes are flown by 70/70 pilots which aren't able to damage or down a single enemy fighter on CAP despite outnumbering them 2,5:1... hit rate of the Nells wasn't famous either but that's due to many of them attacking the nimble destroyers this time...

we do lose three Tojos to ops but no pilot, none of the Tojos were damaged and all three crashed on landing... well done... in total it was a horrible result in the air, simply because of the bombers and escorts going in first which is against every bit of common sense but that's how the game works, checking the unit numbers, the Tojos had higher numbers than the IJNAF units which makes them coming in later... damn it, my paras again fail on a base that has been empty the day before as the two base forces show up in the base on the rail... have a look at this screenshot, Mundy seems to pack everything in the area into Bombay now, already 31 units being reported there... must be mostly base forces plus some tank units considering the troop count, at the moment it doesn't seem impressive to me and most of my troops have moved on the railline to Poona already preparing to attack Bombay...

here you go! Not much to see other than Japanese flags as we own pretty much all of China already. Exception is Paoshan to the very West and the bases North of Lanchow/Sining which is very far North. The couple of Chinese "Armies" still left are consisting of pretty much ghost units, all out of supply and not combat worthy. To the West of Canton is my Army marching to the city to finally kill those Chinese being surrounded there, then the industry will also start working again.

Mundy told me he received emergency reinforcements in India so my advance must have triggered something, I guess it was the capture of Ahmedabad... not really surprised about this happening at some point even though it is kind of counterproductive to our goal in India to destroy as many Commonwealth troops as possible as this will make a Burma front and the usual grind there in 43/44 pretty much non existant... don't know how many troops he will receive, probably a couple of divisions but also a lot of equipment going into the pools... as far as I know all those units should arrive in off map bases as they come from the middle East so it will take a while until they will show up in the theatre so they won't have a direct impact in combat the next couple of weeks I guess (hope)...

an enemy Army has arrived at Sian which is defended by two experienced IJA divs with another one coming in on the railline from the North... recon shows over 150,000 troops which sounds impressive but this is a dead Army that has been reduced by my air attacks over the last months... no doubt we will see them attacking Sian where we already have level 4 forts so with my air attacks I doubt he will be able to achieve anything, all those enemy troops must be totally undersupplied as there is no Chinese supply source left...

as expected the enemy enters Sian and attacks immediately... our two divisions easily fought off the attack inflicting horrendous losses within the attacker... the adjusted Allied av pretty much says everything about the state of those Chinese units... was surprised there were even that many non disabled squads... our third division will join the other two tomorrow and we will order an attack in two days even though the arriving div will still be in strat mode then... wanna kick out the Chinese, the retreat should cause insane losses...

the enemy was bold enough to enter Sian where I only had one division earlier but moved in another two by rail from the North which meant we had a 2:1 advantage in assault value even though a disadvantage at troops but that doesn't count against the Chinese anymore... the enemy is easily forced to retreat out of Sian again taking horrible losses... pretty much the whole enemy Army must consist of disabled squads as they are all destroyed and the Chinese suffer nearly no disablements anymore... my divisions will pursue to destroy the enemy...

the slaughter at Bombay begins and we already start with a 2:1... one of my divs was hit hard and can't participate in further attacks but I have another two divs incoming the next days so the result of this attack is actually quite pleasant as it already shows Bombay not having any chance to resist our operation... level 6 forts and two fully prepped Indian Divs boosting the defenses could make this looking completely different...

what has looked like the unspectacular sinking of a medium sized freighter off Ceylon turns out to be a nice success as the air losses show the freighter carried a British torpedo bomber squadron... these bombers are worth their weight in gold so I'm quite pleased... we keep losing Jakes on nav search daily which is becoming a damn pain as those float planes drop out of the air as if they would have to fight Corsairs on each mission...

only two more days until 1943 and the IJA achieves another big victory in India as our Army seizes Bombay! BANZAI! Three enemy units are destroyed during the attack and the rest retreats to the hex West of Bombay which is really disturbing as I have no clue how they could draw a supply line to another base from that jungle hex... all other hexsides of Bombay have been blocked... means I will have to move a couple of Inf divs into the hex to finish the enemy there, shouldn't be much of a problem... situation in India is a full victory it seems as we don't spot any major troop concentrations anymore nor any big airfields loaded with aircraft... looks like Mundy has evacuated all of his remaining stuff from the remaining areas in India or he has everything in the far South, just off the Northern tip of Ceylon... Ceylon itself is out of range of my recon aircraft and I still expect the Royal Navy being there most likely under an umbrella of the Royal Airforce... goal in India was fully achieved, no, we achieved way more than our goal was... when we planned to take the Calcutta area doing maximum damage to Allied troops there we took advantage of every chance we were given destroying pocket after pocket, feels a bit like the German assault on Russia...

The fall of Bombay and the forced retreat of a Chinese Army has pushed our victory points to a new level again... we scored nearly 1400 victory points this turn, including over 600 for enemy ground losses which are over 23000 now, not bad for a year of fighting I'd say [;)]

Also the total victory points have gone through the magic 50,000 mark which brings the victory point ratio to a whopping 6.278:1 in favour of the Japanese! That deserves another BANZAI!

Months ago I was sure we would achieve a decisive victory at 1/1/43 but I didn't expect to achieve that many points for that few losses actually.

And now take a look at this screenshot of our Industry and the supply situation. Destroying enemy troop concentrations was our main goal in India and the plan was to do so while staying supply neutral (at least) as I didn't want to make the Indian operation a supply sink. In all my games I was usually able to do so as I always captured enemy supply depots and some industry which easily made up for the supply we used.

In this campaign the fall of Bombay means JACKPOT as we capture no less than 1,500,000 tons of supply plus some 75,000 tons of fuel. I know how hard it is to get all the supply out of India again as the Allied when you were constantly shipping it into the subcontinent and this is a good example which usually happens at Karachi when you hole up the Allied Army up there. We started the war with 3.5 mio tons of supply, have put a shitload into air R&D and are now at nearly 4.8 mio tons. [&o]

Fuel is also 500,000 tons higher than we started the war with, only oil is decreasing constantly but there's nothing one can do about it as there is not enough oil on the map to fully supply all the refineries Japan can take. The only "major" oilfield not in Japanese hands at the moment is the one with 50 oil in the very far North of China. Of course there's also the bit of oil in Russian hands but that would require activating the Soviets and defeating them. To be honest, High Command was thinking about attacking the Soviets already as we have the whole China Army (has to be bought out) and the Army with 8,000 av that defeated the Commonwealth in India, alltogether I could probably send some 20,000 av against the Soviets (while keeping enough for the defense against the Western Allied) and I even would see us winning but I don't see a need to do so or a real reason other than to win some fame by defeating the USN, conquering China and India in 42 and defeating the Soviets in 43. Just not enough there to make it worthwhile.

Not only do we have a perfect strategic situation at the moment we also have an industrial basis that couldn't be any better for Japan at the end of 42.

Congrats Castor! masterful job thus far. Taking out SOV and bottling them up in the North would mean one less opponent in '45, assuming the game would ever get there.
