Cap'n:

Congratulations on your successful disembarkation of the 33rd ID onto the shores of Australia. A mere 400 mile trek over featureless aboriginal wasteland and then you'll have those sons of nippon on the run!

If there really are 145 carrier planes then it has to be at least 2 fleet carriers. Of course, as there were only 43 documented Jap carrier bomber sorties detected by us last turn there is some disconnect in the "data".

I suppose the claim of 11 carriers might have been overstated. [;)]

According to the mouse-over you posted it's more like 200 carrier planes! 3 carriers or 4?

It is actually about 1000 men of 2nd Div (Br) and Africa Brigade. [:)]

Just another one of those three thousand click/not click things in AE. We can turn off the unload now but I am not sure itwill do much for Major Hazard's careeer.

it seems Major Hazard is a major hazard

Any relation to those Dukes from his home country? The Dukes of Hazard?

ETA: Sometimes, Generics aren't all they're cracked up to be. Perhaps Captain Brandname would have demonstrated more autonomous thought.

Yes..but I doubt 62 "auxillary" as well. That would have to be damaged carrier planes and seaplanes. Why would they come back at us with 30% of their air complement damaged?

I think the best assumption is 2 carriers.

It does raise the question of whether they could have more carriers active than the ones detected in the previous battle???

I've always seen people on the forum say that "auxiliary" meant torpedo-armed. I don't really know for sure.

I really thought aux was thought to be damaged planes, from all my AAR lurking.

But yeah - I guess if someone suggested they might be torpedo-armed bombers I'd want to double check that ;)

Yeah, I've seen that too. I'm going to pretend that I don't have the manual handy to cite chapter and verse. All's I know is it ain't gonna be a bunch of float planes, dude.

Also Why didnt our SBD's go after the carriers? 8 hexes.

I seem to recall something about a carrier strike range limit. I am going to bet it is less than 8 hexes for Allies in 42

Your CV's have a 7 hex limit. I read somewhere else on the forum that it is hard coded. Japanese CV's have an 8 hex range.

carrier strike range limit

I have read things in terms of coordiantion in 1942 over 100 aircraft, but I have not read anything on hex range. However, I might suggest that the group failed a die roll? Maybe the extra die roll for extended range and weather? That I have certainly have experinced this one with all groups flying but one who decided to play cards on the deck of the Big E ...See rule 7.2.1.6.1 under extended range and on page 162:

When flying Missions at extended range (that is further than the normal combat radius but less
than the extended combat radius), there is:

»» An increased chance of not finding the target.
»» An increased chance of withdrawal due to fuel limits.
»» Disruption caused by air to air combat is increased for aircraft
flying at extended range. Bombers carry fewer and/or smaller
bombs at extended range, and they cannot carry torpedoes at
extended range (they substitute a reduced payload of bombs).
.......

Just a thought ...

Yes, 1 hex less for the Allied player. Thus for Japan, 8 hex limit, for Allied 7 hex limit. There is a very small random call on getting the extreme range strikes off, but best to always assume an IJN strike may be incoming from 8 hexes.

As to the "auxiliary", I can't recall anyone claiming them to represent torpedo bombers. The manual does not define, on page 221, what is an "auxiliary" plane disclosed by a mouseover. The auxiliary total is usually far more than the total invesntory of torpedo bombers. It covers damaged airframes.

I started Scenario 1, head to head. Stood down all carrier planes and float planes in KB. Stood down all aircraft at Pearl Harbor, then put all search planes and level bombers on 100% naval search at 6,000ft. I ran the turn, then took down the numbers from the IJ squadron displays in KB. Lastly, took a snapshot of the mouse-over from the Allied side.

The numbers from the IJ side are:

Fighters Ready: 108
Fighters Dam/Mnt: 0
Fighters Reserve: 3

Dive Bombers Ready: 135
Dive Bombers Dam/Mnt: 0
Dive Bombers Reserve: 0

Torpedo B. Ready: 144
Torpedo B. Dam/Mnt: 0
Torpedo B. Reserve: 6

Float Planes (all types) Ready: 14
Float Planes (all types) Dam/Mnt:
Float Planes (all types) Reserve: 2

Here is the Allied mouse-over. Draw what conclusions you will.
