Just to clarify, the ship isn't meant to really be old and rusty, more old and mysterious.  [;)]

I guess there are two ways to approach the Ancient Guardians, either old and mysterious or super high tech.  I think old and mysterious is more interesting, especially as the Shakturi are curvy and shiny.  Its a nice contrast between the two.

And fits more with their ancient aspect, altough the shakturi should also be as ancient even if not explicitly said so.

Does anyone know of a simple, easy way to make the Ancient Guardians and Shakturi into playable factions? So if I were to play with the story modes disabled I could have the Ancients and Shakturi in my game from the start like all the other races? Is it possible to start with 22 factions in the game? I think I heard this mentioned in some patch notes, but it was a while ago and I forgot.

WoodMan, you can indeed play with Shakturi and Mechs from the start. Just change the races.txt file. You can copy these 2 lines if you like ;

Shakturi,  20, 2, 1.19, 128, 150, 65, 65, 70,    9, 13, 20, 20, 0, 90, 0, 0, 0, 0,    2, 2, 0, 2, 11, 6, 6,    Y, N, Y,    22, 19, 40, Shaktur, Shakturi Slayer
Mechanoid, 21, 6, 1.07, 140, 50, 140, 60, 150,   10, 6, 20, 0, 0, 100, 50, 0, 0, 0,    0, 5, 11, 0, 0, 5, 5,    N, N, Y,    21, 4, 39, Utopia, Mechanoid Guardian

They're the last 2 lines of the file.

They play exactly like any other race though. For example, the Mechanoids will engage in diplomacy and the Shakturi aren't uber, insanely, unbeatable.

I think that you can play with story mode enabled. There will simply be 2 mechanoids. One of which will inhabit Utopia (the guardians), the other just a normal race. Likewise the Shakturi will be a normal race, but then the real deal will show up.

AFAIK Igard you're correct. Just remember to make sure the race numbers aren't duplicated in the
races.txt file. Also, I would change the homeworld names of the second race instances to something other
than Utopia and Shaktur. I'm glad this was mentioned though, it gives me something to test while waiting
for the next update! [:D]

Ed those are copied directly from the Diverse Worlds races.txt, so as long as that's what you use, no need to worry about duplicates.[;)]

Also, I've tested quite a bit, and it seems that it doesn't matter what home colony name you use. I don't know if it's possible to have an error from this, but I actually mistakenly mis-typed a colony name, and played it for a very long time, with no adverse affects.[;)]

More testing is always appreciated, Ed.[;)]

They have been parked on my front doorstep every game I have played. And I set them colonize... and oh boy, are they good at it...

Thanks TJ, i only wish I had not given it symmetrical engines, I made another smaller ship like it, maybe a destroyer and it looks better with non-symmetrical engines, I'll go back and change it later.

Thanks Igard for those numbers, I think I will include a seperate races file in the extras folder that can make Shakturi and Ancient Guardians playable.  Some people might want to try them when they get new shipset [:)]

That looks great!

Non-symmetrical engines would look cool. Not sure it makes sense from a physics point of view, but it's fun to play around with these things and add to the mystique of the ancient guardians.

Wow, nice one Woodman! This one sure looks powerful and ancient. It could easily be a cruiser or even a capship. Can't wait to see how other ships will look like.

Hey all! The mod is on track for the first update in a long time. I've got back into DW now and am enjoying a game as the Haakonish right now. Progress on the Guardians is going slowly but it will get there in a few days [:)]

Here is a shot of my three favourite ships, the Capital ship from above, a Medium Base Moon (Mid Port) and a Mobile Base Moon (resupply ship).

Edit: For a while the world destroyer will look Ancient Guardian [:D] This will be fixed when I make the Shakturi though. A minor, but temporary annoyance I'm afraid [:-]
