Yes, but isn't Sprior in charge of the Royal Navy?
"in charge" has such a sense of control.....and is probably way to strong. I believe he is mildly aware that the RN is doing things out there, and provides pithy commentary on the rumors of activity, as well as fantastical prognostications of the outcome.

Clearly (based upon its floating characteristics), that isn't an image of the
Royal Sovereign? [:'(]

I say, who is that dodgy-looking CPO who seems to be pining for some cheesy-eggy-hammy topsides (I'm assuming there are some Maltese stewards on his vessel)?
That stubble is definitely non-regulation.

Bloody hell, you must have served aboard a boat.
Next you'll be telling us about Spithead pheasants, sporkers and Gary Glitters.
(For those unaware, "baby's heads" are Jackspeak for steak and kidney pudding.)

Mind you, being a submariner does explain the stubble.
Bloody submariners think they are a law unto themselves!

******Clearing in a stand of old oak, The Cotswalds*******
Guide: <whispering as she brushes aside a branch> Now..if we are very quiet we may be able to pick up a conversation in authentic Jackspeak. Most likely, they are talking about food and basic biologic functions........

Jolly good, Captain, jolly good.
Firstly, it's the Cotswolds.
Secondly - it's especially apt - here in South Africa they have a slang term for yodelling or calling George that is pronounced "kotsch" or "cotts"...

The "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment" is making a pest of itself at Port Headland.
In an effort to find some historical context, I did some research. I can't find such a unit. There was a "102nd Engineer Bn" which was attached to 27th ID and did serve in the PTO.
I think they are a little too big for their britches.

**********Port Headland beachhead, October 11, 1942***********
Officer of "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment":...YOU THERE! Put those 105 rounds with that cache over there. <he points to an enormous mountian of artillery ammunition that stretches for 150 yds.
Officer with 32nd ID patch: Captain, a number of us were wondering why your unit has such an enormous ammunition dump when 32nd ID can't scrape up enough to start the assault.
Officer of "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment": Get lost Lt., this belongs to the 102nd. Says right here on the loading plan.
Officer with 32nd ID patch: But sir, does the 102nd even have any 105's?
Officer of "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment": Look, Lt., if the Army says this stuff belongs to the 102nd then it belongs to the 102nd. Get your own.
Officer with 32nd ID patch: But sir, aren't we all fighting the Japs?
Officer of "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment": Goddamnit Lt., go shave your peach fuzz. I am trying to run an ammo dump.
Truck Driver: <yells from window> 20,000 rounds Ma Deuce ammo and a field kitchen. Where do you want it, Captain.
Officer of "102nd Combat Engineer Regiment": <looks at clipboard> Field kitchen, that makes 12. Right, 3 row on the right.........
