T102 - Interdiction

This is one of numerous examples of the AI conducting suicide interdiction attacks. I don't really know how the Axis can avoid these kind of attacks. I always turn interdiction of when I play Axis. Although I have to say that he had some very good results in the south in the last couple of turns. Some of my units had not enough MP after interdiction and had to retreat. In one case my tank corps was hit hard and I had to decide whether to let it participate in the attack and get slaughtered the next turn or to retreat. I took the slaughtering option. But in the long run I don't know if interdiction is worth it.

T103 - South

In the North he has evacuated Estonia. I forgot to take a screenshot. In the South I attack some of his elite units and numerous Panzer divisions which have just been engaged in combat so their fatigue is high. Axis losses for the second attack are so high because the units were pushed over a major river which triples losses.

T104 - Rail Movement

A major reorganization is going on. The tanks of Southwestern Front are moved to different sectors of the front. The south was simply to crowded. I used the tanks a couple of turns for reserve activation and this worked surprisingly well. However, the Axis is focusing on just one or two counterattacks and most of those reserve activations weren't making any difference. Highler losses for the Axis, yes, but also higher tank losses and morale losses for me.

Partisan activity is reaching a fever pitch. They are intensely focused on destroying anything in the Pripyat marshes. [:D]

He has evacuated Estonia and his troops are fleeing south. I already flipped the entire area and captured the port of Parnu on T103. The port acts as an immediate supply source.

Tank Corps are in place but setup will soon change due to developments in the north. The eastern bank of the Dnepr has almost been cleared.

A HELD result at Kiev. However, I have plans here for the near future.

He launches a series of impressive counter-attacks. I immediately strike back and focus on troops that have been in combat and are fatigued. One thing is clear. The momentum in the south has been lost. His elite troops are too strong. It will be a slow grinding advance from this point on.

Not surprising; you only had 4K artillery. [:D]

The north is really fluid. I'll try to keep the momentum and push to the Dvina. The preferred crossing is the gap between Livani and Daugavpils because of favorable terrain.

At the land bridge I have moved three armies from Bryansk front into position. My best artillery divisions are also in this area and keep pounding his line. The number of fighters participating in this attack is astounding. So are his bomber losses. However, it's not all going well in the air.

The eastern bank of the Dnepr has been cleared.

The Russian air force is at work 24/7. Losses are high but the ratio is favorable. The Luftwaffe is slowly beaten to a pulp.

so you are going for the direct road to the Reich, rather than clearing the western Ukraine?

this remains an engaging, but utterly cheese free, masterclass in how to play the Soviets

Thanks, yes I think it is pretty much a cheese free game. I still have organizational problems in 41 and early 42 and wasted a lot of APs fixing mistakes I made earlier.

Plans have changed for sure. He put a wall of steel in front of me in the south. He really threw everything but the kitchen sink at me. There is no point in hammering tanks against level 3 forts with elite units in them so I decided to use my tanks elsewhere. The good thing is that all the other sectors of the front are kind of weak now. And he constantly has to shift his remaining mobile forces from one hot spot to the other.

Pushing towards the Dvina. On the western edge of the front I put a Stavka reserve army to hold the front at Riga. Everything else storms south.

I think I have chosen a route he didn't expect. Artillery support reaches unprecedented levels and fighter participation is tremendous.

I am scouting the Dvina. Multiple weak spots have been detected. I will attack next week. Riga will be ignored for now.
