My AAR shows what happens when the Germans attack Spain too late. At least in my game, the Germans had time to conquer Spain in '41. In this game, they won't. If I were the Germans, I would leave Spain alone now, swing over to Russia, and try for a '42 Barbarossa. It might work; going for Spain at this point won't. Also, a Vichy declaration now might mean there is no Free France, as there is no place for the French navy in France.

I think I agree. Declare Vichy and see what happens with the Free French. If they aren't created, that's very good for the Axis. Spain in 1942 is a very difficult thing, because it's got more units to build up a good defense. Especially if the CW can assist with the airforce and the USSR build up the forces in the common border, Germany won't have the forces necessary to conquer Spain and keep the Russian bear in it's cage...

The CW choose a naval and set about sending their AMPH/TRS all over the globe to bring military assets from the Empire to where they are most needed. The Dutch TRS heads for Canada to pick up an INF, a TRS already in South Africa heads for Egypt carrying another INF, while units from the UK are being prepared for transfer to the Mediterranean - specifically Gibraltar and Malta.

The RN send a submarine patrol to the Italian Coast to seek out the Italian convoys from Sardinia. The RAF join the party, bringing in a Sunderland Flying boat. Fliegerkorps X send in a Bf-110 to fly cover over the convoys.

The Allies roll a 2
The Axis roll a 4

The Allies successfully find the convoy and have 6 surprise points to spend. The British want to avoid an air battle given the fighter cover in place - they spend 4 points to choose the combat type.

The final two points are used to decrease the enemy combat column.

To me it felt better to increase the damage done and sink the Italian convoy. What was the original result versus the sub that you wanted to avoid?

The Japanese launch a 2:1 no modifiers attack west of Kweillin. The Chinese choose the Assault table...

...its an 8. The attackers lose a unit and are disorganised, but both Chinese are destroyed.

The CW undertake more naval moves to reinforce Egypt, the UK, Gibraltar and Malta. They also take the opportunity of a little Strategic bombing - and get lucky too with an attack on Hamburg.

If I have understood your point, I think I only had the option of decreasing the enemy combat column.

The German intention to switch back toward the Soviet Union is a bit of a blow. The Soviets, thinking an attack on Spain was forthcoming have been building up for an attack on Japan....

The weather could not be expected to hold - and it hasn't. A throw of 9 - a mix of Rain and Storm with the exception of the South Monsoon and South Temperate zones (Fine).

The Axis have little to do but continue to order whatever units they have still organised toward their ultimate destination.

The Allies, all their key moves done, then pass with all to try and end the turn. On a throw of 1 they succeed!
