I'm confused about this. Were the Kates dropping torpedoes, or were they flying as Kamikazes? Or both? [&:]
Ah - OK. The "Banzai!" messages can happen in any attack, even the first turn of the game when kamikazes are not activated. It's historical. On December 7, 1941 at least one Japanese aircraft in the Pearl Harbor attack deliberately crashed into an aircraft hanger because his aircraft was damaged (leaking fuel) and he knew he would not have fuel to get back to the carriers.
So, they dropped torpedoes. Either with or without their torpedoes on board, a couple of them attempted to crash into ships.

I don't know, but there have been enough long games that also moved slow at least for a time that I figure someone has. Then of course there are all the PBM games where neither player does an AAR.

Home Islands west. There was some MTB action at Kochi. A series of night air strikes did not hit our fleet off Kumamoto. Significantly, the Empire pulled out the stops protecting the air space over Kumamoto and our heavy escort with almost all raids engaged in fierce air battles to protect their charges and deliver them over target. Overnight the naval bombardments were good. The ground attack went well.

The casualty ratio is far better this time, and heavy suppression of the defenders' AV by disruption is evident. Reducing the fortification level to 2 will yet again increase the effects of air and naval bombardments. Oncoming Imperial reinforcements will find a more difficult environment.
A number of our armored units are wasted will most of their fighting devices disabled and so are in Reserve to recover somewhat faster. The infantry is in good shape but disruption is high and fatigue is sky high. One division is in Reserve to recover disabled squads faster. The attack bombers and fighters that hit ground troops today are standing down to preserve them for the next attack but other types will continue attacking. Several CVE TF have finished replenishing at Nago and will return to station at Kumamoto, where all the CVE will add their torpedo aircraft to support for the next ground assault.

Air losses. Tough going, and P-51D squadrons at Amami Oshima will switch back from escort to sweeping Kumamoto. Just to outline the air support, all the B-29 groups on Formosa and Hokkaido are now participating, including the night variants (figuring heavy escort will compensate); other bases operating strikes by various types include Daito Shoto, Naha, Nago, Tokunoshima, Amami Oshima, Tokara Retto, Yakushima, Takamatsu, Kochi, Matsuyama, and Saishu To. The few USA (non-B-29) 4EB remaining on Formosa that couldn't fit on closer airfields have moved to Hangchow, 14 hexes from Kumamoto. All the of B-24J and their P-38 fighters escorts have moved from Muroran on Hokkaido to Hangchow, and all the USA 4EB at Hangchow will now target Kumamoto.

Kumamoto. The Allied infantry are working their butts off - look at those fatigue numbers! There are no Amphibious landings underway here for the near future, so perhaps the Imperials will not bombard and that will speed recovery.

More Kumamoto. There is yet more rotation seen underway by Imperial units here, some leaving and others moving in. Current recon shows 36 units, 87,240 troops, 716 guns, and 1,412 AFV. Another infantry regiment arrived today.

Home Islands west. No Japanese bombardment today so we don't get a look at the Imperial unit roster. We had one naval bombadment to help maintain disruption plus the air bombardments. The air strikes were quite good! Again the Empire put up a heavy CAP but this time our sweeps went in first and broke it up. Recon of the Imperials at Kumamoto shows 38 units, 117,920 troops, 874 guns, and 1,411 AFV. A significant increase in strength of 30,000 troops and 160 guns over yesterday. No more movement is seen into Kumamoto, but movement outbound is still in progress, certainly slowed by the Allied bombardment onslaught.
Omitting strikes that caused no casualties, air strikes against Kumamoto reported these results today:

Kumamoto. We've placed the USMC division in reserve also. Recovery of disruption is happening much faster than recovery of fatigue.
