AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Jan 30-31, 42

The last two days have been another mixed bag of good and bad happenings.

On the 30th KB raided Darwin, sinking some 10 transports surely bringing supplies to the allied bastion in Northern Oz. The very same day 27 Nells, escorted by 20 Zeros, sunk 15 transports near Rangoon.
On the 31st, knowing that he had placed fighters at Rangoon, we swept the base with a zero daitai. The datai had both crack and rookie pilots and results weren't good...we lost 18 zeros, destroying only 11 enemies....but attrition is on my side and i know that he does get very few hurricanes and a couple of battles like that and he won't have anything left to fight for the next month or so.

While the KB covers the landings in eastern Timor (Lautem and Dili), the Horn Island invasion force is ready to unload, supported by 2 BBs, 1 CL and several DDs...he has 5000 men there....will be tough!

The Kaga group is supporting the invasion of Java. The 5th Amphib Bde left Tarakan 2 days ago and is now bypassing Balikapan. Will be joined by invasion forces coming from Palembang and Singwalakan. 740 AVs will be our brigdehead! Banzai!

Tomorrow our 25th Army, composed of 4 divisions, will cross the line and shock attack at Singapore...finger crossed.

In Burma he abbandoned the moulmein rivercrossing and retired to Pegu. We're pressing on!

In China i decided not to destroy the pocketed units. I don't wanna lose precious time. I'll simply contain them and march towards Arkan. Wanna force him to abbandon the whole sector without fighting. It's a war of movement and position. Not a war of annihilation. Move as fast as possible. Flank him. Outmanovre him. make him abbandon his positions...that's my strategy. Simply keep on moving!

Destroying the units means they'll reappear with free troops in little time. Allowing them to make a fighting retreat (or simply letting them rot in a pocket) means they'll be soaking up his replacements, so good job!

three days very important for Japan.

With order:

MALAYA: our 4 divisions crossed the line and entered into Singapore. The shock attack went pretty well, forts down and 1-1...the 5th division is trashed but
the other ones aren't in a bad shape. The 33rd joined the party on the 2nd and now 2 more divisions are arriving from Jahore Baru.
Probably within two weeks we can take the base.

JAVA: i ordered the invasion of Java. all my transports are grouping, along with several SCTFs and the Kaga's TF...fuel is really a problem for my CVTFs now...my oilers are empty and everywhere the endurance is red
NEar Christmas OI several cruisers have been spotted on the 2nd....he probably wants to face my invasion TFs with Force Z and friends...i am sending the KB from Timor to Christmas OI...let's see if i can end the resistance of his Navy in the DEI once for all.

Palembang is always short of supplies...it's really a pain!

TIMOR: we invaded Dili and Lautem and conquered them with 2 SNLF units. I'll probably wait a bit for Koepang cause i need fuel and supplies...

Mereuake and Horn Island fell. while Mereuake was empty, Horn was loaded with several units...i had sent 300 AVs there...and some BBs...we managed to take the atoll at the first attempt

BURMA: we had several fights over Rangoon's skies, where his hurricanes did really well, killing lots of zeros and Nells. But then my armies crossed the river and conquered Pegu and the hex north of it, helped by our mighty air force.
Now i need to roll over Burma. I'll try to push as deep as i can...possibly up untill Mandalay. Let's see if he wanna fights for Rangoon or not...

CHINA: well, he has occupied the crossroads north of Ankang and he's trying to close over Angang with several units coming both from the south and from north...but i'm reinforcing the base with a SNLF unit and with another raiding regiment, while my tanks are marching from south...i think i will win this race.
Overall it seems that he's fleeing from the Nanyang sector...we pushed him out from the Chengchow area and now his units are struggling on the woods...while on the northern road that leads to Sian, we opened the way defeating 3 chinese corps on the 2nd of Feb and we're now on the run.
I wanna push him on both the roads that leads to Sian, while another column will march towards Ankang, flanking the whole Sian sector.
In the south, we're ready to liberate the road Liuchow-Tsuyun. Then i'll regroup and will try to push north.
It also seems that, slowly, he's abbandoning Changsha area...it's an active retreat...he fights back...but every turn i spot less units in this area...good!

3 damaged CAs are coming back online, while base forces, supplies and fuel are flowing towards CENTPAC and SWPAC.
We're buying base forces and AA units to be sent to the Solomons-NG area, while Wake and Marcus are now secured.

No further signs of enemy's CVs presence in NOPAC...probably they're moving towards Oz...

You are really doing well in China. The decision to push up both roads to Sian and to move on Ankang is, IMHO, correct.

Note the benefits of the advance on Kweiyang and capture of the nearby base with paras. You are forcing him out of the Changsha sector by maneuver alone. That sector is just key for supply production in China. Make the conquest of China your top priority as you have just about sealed up the perimeter. That said, don't forget NW Oz.

And yes, now i wanna re-allocate my strategic priorities:
FEB 42
1- Conquer Singapore by mid feb.
2- Estabilish a bridgehead in Java by mid feb.
3- Conquer Koepang by mid feb.

MAR 42
1- Land in NW Oz and estabilish a defensive perimeter from Rabaul-Mylne Bay-Horn Island-Darwin-Exmouth.
2- Conquer Burma and make a landing at Akyab/Chittaong.
3- Conquer southern Java and lay a siege at Batavia
4- In China finish the flanking of the Changsha sector and force him to abbandon it. At the same time advancing towards Sian using 3 vectors (Ankang road + the two roads that lead from Chengchow sector to Sian).
5- Land base forces and engineers at Munda, Lunga-Tulagi and Mylne Bay and start to transfer air units to this sector

China - Where is your Chinese Command HQ?? Move it towards Nanyang and have it prep for Sian. Just a reminder. [;)]

It's prepping for Changsha and it's located at Henchow...i don't know if prepping for Sian really helps... i mean, it's in a clear hex...i think the battles will be fought in the sorrounding woods cause, once my armies are in a clear hex, there's no hope for him in the long run to hold...

Once Singapore falls i have 6 divisions and 3 regiments to spare...where to send them?

3 Regiments will be sent to Java, to help finishing the sieges there. 4 Divisions should be used against Burma-Akyab (or possibly Assam...still have to dedice if to committ there or not) and the 2 remaining divisions should attack Darwin...hopefully that would be enough.

I'm not doing any progress in the R&D....i'm refraining from repairing too many factories cause supplies levels in Japan aren't that high (only 650k)...

Hankow - Don't forget that you can send small transports with supplies up river to the size 4 port rather than to Shanghai.

R&D - anything for the next 12 months should be allowed to repair. They don't eat up much supplies as its a slow process.

Supplies - hit the "B" button to pull up your bases and sort by supplies. See if you have some bases with supplies that you can pick up and move. There usually are a few that you have overlooked.

Say it ain't so GJ! Vacation? Please tell us it's not one of those proper European vacations where you are away most of August? Don't you read the papers? Greece went on vacation and look what happened to them.

Hankow - Don't forget that you can send small transports with supplies up river to the size 4 port rather than to Shanghai.

I do this a lot just mainly "just because I can" but I always kinda wondered if it was more efficient to drop supplies off at Shanghai and just let it travel the rail network. I guess there is spoilage on the rail lines. One of my AE Bucket List items is to send a bombardment TF up that river one day. Now that would be cool!

Plus Sian is one of those cities that won't supplies for the Allies. The Allied player has to defend the terrain in front of Sian to hold it as that is the only way supplies will flow to his units. And prepping has no effect outside of a city-which I always found to be fairly weird. No need to prep for a city that will fall as soon as you are able to move into the hex. Better to just prep for something else.

Feb 4, 5, 6, 7 1942

Enemy CVs are spotted near Cocos Island, along with several other unidentified warships, while my Java invasion fleets are regrouping 6 hexes East of Batavia. KB and Kaga's group are providing cover, along with 4 BBs and 4 Cruiser SCTFs.
I was in doubt of where to land. Sebarang was my first joice cause i wanted that level 5 port...but the bulk of enemy ground forces is located at Batavia and the allies have a CD unit at Sebarang....so i decided to switch to Kalidati.... But what to do with the 90 enemy fighters (+13 bombers) located at Sosarbaja and with the enemy CVs at Cocos? How to provide cover for my invasion fleet without exposing my CVs to a mortal risk?
I took the following solution:

I moved a para unit from Bankok to Palembang. On the 7th 100 bombers ground attacked Kalidati, while 30 Zeros and Oscars provided LRCAP over there. The base force present was immediately annihilated and, while our invasion forces moved 4 hexes far from Kalidati, the Paras took the base. Immediately 100 fighters were transfered (from Palembang and from Kaga) to Kalidati. Now my amphib TFs will be able to unload safely (a part from the mines present there) and our SCTFs will provide an arc of cover around Kalidati (i expect his PTs coming in waves). in 2 days we should have 1000 AVs there, enough to isolate Batavia from the rest of the Island.

2 infantry regiments are regrouping at Kendari. Will rest a bit and then they'll conquer Koepang, while support forces (base forces, AA guns etc) are being moved to Ambon, lautem etc...


In China we liberated Nanning, so opening the major road from Indochina to Canton area, while his units are opposing a stiff resistance on the road from Liuchow to Tsuyun....despite several attacks and air bombings i cannot get anything more than a 1-1... i think i'll let them slip away in the woods, and will try to stop their march towards salvation in another way.

In the north a single enemy corp is blocking my advance in the mountain road north of Chengchow...i keep obtaining 7-1 odds but, despite having their escape route free, they never retreat!

At Ankang he won the race for the crossroads and now he has 5 corps sorrounding my base. My tanks are on their way but i'll have to rely on the 2 raiding regiments and on the Shangai SNLF unit I airlifted there. Supply is more than enough to hold untill the cavalry arrives...forts and terrain should do the rest.

yup, i keep on hitting his AF every day. for a couple of days, last week, i had given to my boys some rest and he immediately moved in P-40s and ducth torpedo bombers...luckly i got them on the ground the very next day

At Kalidati we succesfully landed 800 AVs and 56k supplies. Now the first goal is to divide Java in two and isolate Batavia from the south.
His air attacks of the last two days have been unsuccesfull and not a single hit was scored.
His CVs seem to have gotten closer (our naval search wasn't that precise in identifying them...probably cruisers or Cvs now spotted near Christmas IO).

Lost another sub at Merak because i'm IDIOT!!!! [:@]...

At Singapore in two days we'll attack again with everything we have. A couple of divisions are down to 200 AVs but the rest is in a decent shape.

At Nanyang, finally the battle for the pocket is over. I think in this pocket we bagged more than 80,000 chinese troops. not bad!

Now it's time to advance. 3 vectors are being followed: the Ankang one, the Nanyang one and the Sian one. I think the stacking limits may give to the japs an advantage...our fire power should always be vastly superior compared to the same troop numbers of the chinese.

Things slowed down in Burma. Cannot advance anymore untill some reinforcements arrive.

At Kalidati (Java) he swept my base with 50 P-40! [X(], followed up by several escorted bombers at 1000 ft....scored hits on 3 transports (they should all survive) but lost in the process several planes, while i lost only 3 pilots...a good trade imho! (kill ratio in these battles were 2.5 to 1 in my favour).
